Ok, let me explain this place as much as i can with my limited knowledge. I did not stay in a cabin and cannot rate, there fore the blank rooms stars. First off this is named incorrectly on google compared to the sign out front. There is an old school plastic sign on the frontage road which reads the drive-in eatery in Yellow and black. under it is a wooden white sign with black block spray paint lettering reading glacier peak resort & winery cabins rv's eatery tents. None of these make sense nor do they describe the awesomely unique place this is, more later! First suggestion, to the mostly absentee owner who resides in CA, change your sign to a more visible and telling one. second suggestion, hire more people!, third make Sarah your manager and pay her very well to compensate her for what she is, a caring genius. This place does not offer rv's or tents and i dont think it is a winery. It is a cool place with residents and spaces for rv's and tent camping, many sites offering both options for use. The winery may be explaining that they sell wine and have an old school bar in the back of the property which is only open when there is enough demand. There are spectacular sites across the hwy20 frontage and on the main property, which actually have some waterfront access and views(sprinter and vanlife culture, wink wink). The restaurant is owned and operated together but separate, weird but it works. The employees in this little nirvana are operating the way they know how and what works for them. Due to the fact that there is almost no business sense by the owner and little managerial oversight, the place is surprisingly clean and well maintained, probably nothing scary will be found. There are amazing amenities: a wonderful restaurant serving relatively healthy fast food with great service(Angie and Jennifer , I see you beautiful caring women), with a great cook. there is a rec room with hot tub and exercise equipment, a laundry with coin op machines and a surprisingly clean/organized space, eclectic cabins which seem lovingly cared for and cleaned, and tents/rv/sprinter or vanlife friendly grass /tent sites that can be used any way you see fit. Pricing for the grass sites are an incredible $34.07 for 3 days total . Yes, you read that right, less than what it costs you to stay at a state park for one night, with the ability to stay 3 nights at the same total price! There are residents in some of the cabins and they keep this place up. There is a reason no crime happens here, and they don't need any of those bullcrap automated camera trailers you see popping up in every shopping center parking lot. Create a caring culture and people look out for one another! Get to know some of the residents and you may be pleasantly surprised at how similar we all are in this world. The bar in the back was not frequented by me although i am guessing it is as cool and cared for as the rest of the place, but i did check out the owners amazing classic car collection. With possibly some of the most unique and unexpected vehicles i have seen in a very long time(I am a car buff and almost expert mechanic, so i know what i see). Overall, this place is like the Transformers, more than meets the eye. Give it a chance.
PS, if you are the owner and want to discuss my review or findings, I will call and leave a message with my contact info. Feel free to get a hold of me anytime and i will offer my advice. I am a college grad/business owner of many decades and can give whatever help you may want or need! I believe, Sarah disclosed enough about your personal situation to be sensitive yet explaining a lot about what is happening here(seriously , pay Sarah what she is worth and get her some assistance with the office and some well earned time off and a bonus for her duty and...
Read moreBAIT AND SWITCH!!! Spur of the moment trip recommended by my friend, we called and got a quote of $89.00 for two people and $20.00 for additional people. We drive approx 2 1/2 hours to get there it was dark and the price had changed to a higher rate and that was before the extra $40.00 for two more people but no one could do anything about it because the person who makes those decisions wasn't there but apparently they can miss quote you and then change randomly without this decision making person present. We had no choice unless we wanted to turn around at that time of night and drive another 2 1/2 - 3 hrs home. So we go to unload our bags and find the place filthy, there were cob webs hanging from the ceiling throughout the place cob webs covering the entrance to the door frames leading into the bedrooms and bathroom my friend found a broom and swept them all down so we didn't have to walk through them especially my 6 ft 2" boyfriend. The floors were filthy the wall surround in the bath was rotting away and nothing was caulked, the hideaway "sofa" was black with years of filth. We are trying to make the best of it and go into town get something to eat and play a little pool, my friend has an asthma attack so we get back to the room she wants to take a hot bath... Yup! No hot water! When we first arrived they told us they turned off the gas but our cabin was electric so we would have to use the electric heaters for heat (the fire place was gas I guess) so not a problem so when we don't have hot water up to the office we go and they said the hot water heater was on gas so they would get it turned on for us but we had to wait until the next day for hot water and my friend didn't get her bath. We check out the next day and we were supposed to be able to talk to the "decision making person" but he wasn't there and we were told that it was our fault that we didn't have hot water because they "checked" it before we got there and it was hot but because we all used it up by taking showers is the reason we didn't have hot water... WAIT when did we take showers and use it all up? REALLY?!?! Again we had no choice but to leave my card number and wait for a phone call. We drove home and all day and night not a phone call. I finally had to call them on Sunday and got a hold of the "decision making person" he proceeded to tell me that again it was our fault that we didn't have hot water that the hot water tank was on electric (????) and that he was standing by the $174 we were being charged instead of the $140 we were expecting and that we should be happy with that because we used the second bedroom and usually that's an extra $29 on top of the $20 per extra person!!!! REALLY!!!! I have never heard of such a thing I was told we should have used the gross filthy blackened hid-a-bed sofa!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? And then I was basically called a liar when I spoke of the filth and cob webs!! Then today I check my account they charged me $204!!!!! I have been in property management for over 24 years and have never experienced such outrageous customer service in my life!! And to treat us the paying customer using our hard earned money for a dump like that like WE are the ones in the wrong to the point of even being accusing of lying. If you don't mind being treated like crap and not valued as a customer then go ahead...
Read moreIf you want to check this place out because you have heard about it then do just that but stay somewhere else. The grounds are lovely, the bunnies are cute but sadly I have to give this a terrible review. We heard about this place from Northwest Back Roads show and when we decided to take a last minute loop trip for our anniversary I thought it would be a fun place to stay. (Sorry, Tootsie, but the cinnamon roll (more like a sticky bun) was only alright and mine didn't have any raisins.) They offer a variety of units so I specify our unit was 11 in the tri-plex. Okay, I expected everything to be old and even less than clean but this place earns a place on my dirtiest places I've stayed list. The capper - a shower curtain that I'm guessing went up when they opened for the season and hasn't been changed since. At least I hope it is that new! I can see that at some point there was a desire to offer homey accommodations but the few nice touches we experienced cannot make up for grungy. Is the new generation resting on the laurels of the past one? My review in the form of suggestions to the staff - SCRUB the bathroom with a brush and scouring powder. If I can wipe the mildew in the shower off with a wash cloth imagine what a scrub brush could accomplish. Offer shampoo. Since we had some with us we didn't request any so we have no idea if they usually offer it and the "cleaning" person forgot. Offer coffee for the "coffee bar" advertised. Again, we had some with us and this could have been a re-stocking oversight since they provided the pot, the filters and cream and sugar. However, there was only one cup in the unit! Again, maybe an oversight. We used the ones we had with us. How about a closet of some sort. Even hooks on the walls would work. Level the bed so the head of it isn't slanting down hill. We "fixed" this problem by putting pillows between the mattress and box springs. If it's dirty - clean it! In fact, clean it even if it doesn't look dirty and then the grime won' build up. If it can't be cleaned replace it. Once blankets are worn through, replace them! Basically, if you wouldn't want it on your own home then don't put it in any of your units. I realize this is a family operation with a limited season so money might be tight but there are ways to make improvements with not a lot of money spent. Cleaning is a matter of effort, COURTESY and pride. You advertise that you hire kids to clean - re-think this or train them better. Dirty and stained upholstery is gross. Clean it. If it is still stained buy cover ups. If it's really bad - toss it. Shower curtains are cheap so change them! Inspect units regularly to be sure the cleaners are keeping it clean and not just surface wiping stuff. Be sure the units are stocked properly and furniture isn't gross. Since this is a local icon I'm sure some of your neighbors and friends would donate some newer linens and maybe even some replacement furniture as well as labor to help spruce up the place. If not, even yard sale items might be used for improving your inventory. How about putting up a few public BBQs. Microwaves in the units would be good. If wiring won't handle that how about a public use microwave somewhere on...
