I booked in and stayed here since it's only one of two hotels available in this small town. Look decent enough from the outside. That's where it ends. The woman at the front kept me waiting more than 5 minutes (despite me ringing the bell) before she emerged from the back door, where I can only assume is the owner's residence.||She is the most rude person I have ever dealt with in hospitality. She repeatedly said, "NO PETS" as if asking me a question. She asked me this no less than 3 times. I had NO PETS! She could not find my reservation despite having a confirmation number where I can would assume was an attempt to not honor the online rate I had. When I showed it to her on my phone my reservation miraculously appeared. Once I got into my room I understood why she was asking about pets as the room smelled as if they had been using it for livestock. That was the tip of the iceberg. I will admit once I turned on the A/C and left the door open for about 30 min the smell did get tolerable. The room was deplorable. The ceiling was peeling and falling on the floor in both the main room and the bathroom. The coffee condiments had all been opened and nothing but the pink artificial sweetener and a stir in each opened plastic packet was all that was left. They either leave these opened in the room, or are "pooling" the leftovers from different rooms and putting them in the rooms. Not sure here??? Either way this is so gross not to mention that in the era of COVID this is terribly unsafe to your guest. The rest of the story is the missing smoke detector. The wires were dangling from the ceiling where there was a smoke detector at some point, I assume. Unsure that the other rooms were the same (missing smoke detectors), but this is a huge safety concern. I would suggest you look for another hotel in a close by city if you need a place to stay in the Selmer area as this property is unacceptable. Good luck if you choose to stay here with the "warm welcome", lack of smoke detectors, and...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the Selmer, TN Econolodge as the midpoint in a trip from SC to MO to visit family. We were pleased that this generally clean, nicely up-dated and moderately priced motel had some upscale features that arenât ânormalâ but that weâve come to appreciate: (1) A higher, chair-height toilet, (2) A freezer section in the mini fridge (for our reusable ice) and (3) Good light-blocking curtains. There were, however, some areas we would improve: (a) There was no vent fan in the bathroom, (b) Bedside tables do not have outlets for chargers, (c) The couch was stained, and (d) The room did not have a coffee table or area to sit other than the desk. We were also disappointed that despite the Choice web site and the sign outside advertising free breakfast, there was none; not regular, continental or âto goâ. Finally, before leaving the trip we wanted to cancel this AAA rate reservation and drive further that day, but found that the cancellation date was two days before the reservation date. Other Choice/AAA reservations weâve had in the past were cancelable up to 6:00 PM on the day of the reservation, including the Econolodge reservation in Corinth we had for our return trip. We like the flexibility of same-day cancellation, so wonât be making a reservation at the Selmer...

Disappointing Stay â Wouldnât Recommend
Traveling with pets already makes it challenging to find decent lodging, so I was willing to accept the $25 per pet non-refundable fee. But with the total coming to around $170 for the night, I expected a lot more.
When we arrived, the room was hot and stuffyâunderstandable for summer, but unacceptable that the AC was off during a heat advisory. It took over six hours for the room to cool down to a bearable temperature.
Then came the bugs. Within the first 30 minutes, I killed four spidersâone of which looked alarmingly like a brown recluse. The floor along the walls was lined with dust, dirt, and dead bugs. It felt far from clean.
To make matters worse, the fridge had visible mold, and there were unidentified splatters on the wall and metal rail. I didnât want to guess what they were, just that they shouldnât be there.
For the price we paid, I expected a clean, safe, and cool place to stay. Instead, we got bugs, filth, and discomfort. Extremely disappointed. I wouldnât recommend this place to anyoneâpet...
