I think everyone should visit the San Juan islands the area is amazing, however the accommodations not so much. We had a wonderful vacation but it was not the accommodations at all!!! If you go do not stay at the San Juan De Fuca Cottages. The owners were less than hospitable and the room was clean but that was all. For $175 dollars a night, room service was not available and not announced until check in. We booked the Eagles Nest...The room was clean and that was the only accommodating value at all. The entry was was not finished and totally dirty. The bathroom did not have all the doors on the cabinet or the facing. There were twelve sockets for light bulbs if you count the heat lamp in the bathroom and 7 worked. The only redeemable quality for the whole experience was we were only there for two days. The view to the inlet was wonderful if you do not wear bifocals because they had a wonderful telescope in the living room because that is the only way you will see the inlet unless a ocean liner is going by.. The bird poop on the window was a plus. After we got there, there was an additional $42 fee for taxes not advertised on the groupon. We called letting them know that we be late because we missed the ferry. Her husband said you will be here at about 7pm and I suppose you will stop and eat on the way. I felt guilty and said no we come there check in and then go to dinner. We arrived at 7:05 and no one was there. We called and were told to wait in the gazebo she would be there in twenty minutes.Thirty five minutes later she arrived and told us their were worse places to wait..(and pay her $175 that is when she told us that there was no maid service) We had a wonderful time in the San Jaun Islands and our vacation....Please I beg you if you are going to pay those prices for so little...find other accommodations and have a...
Read moreWe stayed in one of the cottages by the sea and it was so lovely. So very cozy and compact but with everything we needed. The beds and linens were comfortable. The rooms were well maintained and clean. The shower is a little bit cramped if you are very tall as there is a skylight above to tuck yourself under (we are 5'7 to 5'9 and were fine). The dining table is tall and the chairs are quite tall backless stools so keep that in mind if you have smaller children. There is a small concessions market room that guests can access that also has movies you can borrow which was nice and a game and toy room that our kids loved. Our dog liked the big open grassy areas. The staff were all very friendly and even helped us set up an afterhours check in when we ran late getting there so we still felt safe and taken care of.
You have to cross a quiet road to get to the path that leads down to the beach. It is a slope down to a flat grassy area where there is a bench, a fire pit and storage shed with watercraft I think you can borrow from the resort. To reach the beach you need to either go down the fairly steep metal boat ramp or the stairs which are quite crumbly and not all there. But it is a fantastic view of the Dungeness Spit and beautiful calm ocean. The beach itself is rocky and covered in shells and sea life so our family had a blast watching all the crabs and mollusks go about their day.
If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing and peaceful getaway and like calm ocean views or poking around rocky beaches to watch sealife, this place is absolutely heaven. We will...
Read moreThis place is so cute! The second me and my travel buddy rolled up we were in love. The staff is very friendly. They keep the grounds immaculate. The grass is a green out of a story book. The biggest plus, in my book, is you are right next to the water. You get a stunning view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. I just can't put into words how stunning the sunsets were and how amazing it was waking up to the sound of the ocean.
The room we were in was clean. It had a fairly good sized kitchen w/ a full size fridge. There weren't very many kitchen supplies, so keep that in mind. The bathroom has a skylight over the tub. It really added a touch of beauty. The tub was jetted which is a big bonus. The tub was spacious and comfortable.
There were two downsides. Their free internet is very wonky and makes you reconnect a ton of times. On our last night we lost internet all together. They have premium internet that you can pay $15 for and you get it your whole stay. I would recommend it. The other issue, which isn't their fault, is my phone kept having issues with reception. I have T-Mobile and I would get these messages about how I'm traveling internationally and they have turned on roaming to accommodate me.....what? I never left Washington. It was very strange. Even when it did switch me to roaming, it still couldn't connect calls or texts. The whole experience was just weird.
Would I recommend this place, yes! It was great. I would definitely...
