As a few other reviewers have said, the name āOregon Garden Resortā is a bit of a misnomer; to call it a resort is overselling it. It really is just a hotel. We are used to staying at places like Super 8 motels, so we thought this would be an exciting, more luxurious splurge for our honeymoon. Overall, we were let down, especially for the price. The room was perhaps bit nicer than some other 1- or 2-star chain hotels weāve stayed in, but the pool and hot tub area were no nicer than they are at most motels weāve stayed at. The pool was really cold; if it was heated, it was only slightly so. The hot tub was alright. It was old and grubby looking, made of that really scratchy, bumpy material. It scraped up our legs and backs quite a bit just from sitting in it. I guess we expected a little more from a āresortā spa. Our other biggest complaints were the following: ⢠The bathroom and shower were small. We have had much larger, nicer bathrooms and showers at hotels half the price we paid here. Here, it is just a small tub with a built-in shower (although the rain showerhead was nice), a single sink, and a really inconveniently placed toilet. The toilet was way too close to the shower so we could only get in and out from the front of the tub; the back portion was inaccessible due to the toilet blocking it. Also, a small complaint, but the toilet paper holder is on the wall behind the toilet, making it very difficult to reach. We had to take the roll off the holder and set it on the back of the toilet for easier access. ⢠Another small shower nuisance was that the way the shampoo, conditioner, etc. are set up in the shower makes them really hard to pump; the vessel holding the bottles prevents you from being able to pump the product out, so it is really hard to get a usable amount of product. ⢠There were LOTS of stains on the towels and sheets. I'm sure the items were clean, but it was a pretty off-putting. Some of our bath towels had tattered, large holes in them as well. Especially for a place labeled as a "resort", we expected a little more attention to detail in terms of cleanliness. ⢠The bath and pool towels were really small. This seems pretty typical for motels, but wow, these were annoyingly small, especially the ones for the pool. Neither of us are large people, and the towels barely wrapped around us. I imagine this is incredibly frustrating for guests larger than a size 6. Many other guests in the pool area commented on how useless and tiny the towels are. ⢠The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were awful. Neither of us are picky when it comes to pillows, and we have never felt the need to travel with our own personal pillows before. However, the pillows at the Oregon Garden Resort made us regret that! The first night, I had intense neck pain from the hard pillow. I couldnāt sleep and was in a lot of pain the next morning. I ended up sleeping on one of my wadded-up sweatshirts, which was uncomfortable, but better than the pillows the resort provided. ⢠Finally, the resort really needs to work something out with the Oregon Garden again so that guests of the resort can get free ā or at least discounted ā garden admission. It seems really silly that this isn't an included accommodation.
The best part of our stay was easily the location and the configuration of the buildings. Both are wonderful! The buildings are all single-story and only have 6 rooms per building, which was perfect for creating a quiet environment. We never heard any neighbors the entire time. It was very secluded and peaceful. Each room has a little private patio, which is lovely. The fireplace in the room was an exciting stand-out feature. You donāt see that in most hotels! We didn't get a chance to use the fireplace much due to the weather, but when we did, it was very cozy and romantic.
Overall, we were disappointed and felt like we didnāt get a very good value for money. It was more basic and run-down than we anticipated it to be from the website,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe booked a night at the Oregon Garden Resort so we could explore the Christmas Market with our family. We had an absolutely fantastic stay!
First off, the Christmas Market was so lovely we are planning to make this a regular Christmas tradition. The lights rivaled ZooLights, the live music in the Biergarten was super cool and everyone loved the snowless tubing. Santa Claus was awesome, and the set where he sits made for an amazing Santa photo. The lights were really magical -- they felt more intimate and close than the lights at ZooLights and the rainbow arch and candy cane arch were both delightful. Highly recommend this experience if you love Christmas lights.
The hotel itself is lovely. You drive past a Frank Lloyd Wright home (tours available at The Gordon House website) on your way in, a very cool surprise for us. Check-in at the main building was easy and smooth. Our room was in one of the small buildings on the property. It's a good set-up: several small buildings that have four or five rooms, and each room I believe has a deck or balcony and a fireplace. Our room's balcony overlooked part of the Christmas display, and it was an amazing view from above! We didn't use the pool (it's seasonal) or hot tub (open while we were there I believe) but it's nice to have those amenities when you want them!
The room was awesome! It was compact, but really served us well. We used the table and chairs to color and play cards, the TV was big and easy to use, the fireplace was FANTASTIC, especially considering the weather (again more below on that), the queen beds were super comfy, and the fridge/microwave area was well laid out. The balcony would have been lovely in different weather.
The customer service was next level. The front desk staff were all friendly and fun. The Fireside Lounge staff were super hard-working and jolly. The breakfast staff kept everything moving with a smile, and every groundsperson we encountered was friendly. And it was an extraordinary weather situation, so that's saying a lot!
We happened to book our visit for a night when the whole region got some bonkers weather conditions. Ice started falling from the sky just as we were pulling in. The walk through the lights was bitterly cold (though the Biergarten was warm and they had there great warming stations sprinkled throughout.) Overnight a 1/4 inch sheet of ice fell over everythiing. The roads were a solid sheet of ice. We decided that driving back home might be perilous, so we booked an extra night.
The morning I asked about extending our stay, the front desk staff were clearly dealing with a lot. The phone was ringing constantly with folks either wanting to extend their stay (everyone got to extend that I heard) or cancel their stay for the night (which they did without a fee because of the crazy weather.) Despite all this, they were upbeat and efficient.
Our second day we ate at the Fireside Lounge twice (driving out for food didn't seem possible) and the food was great, and the service there was equally fabulous. The breakfast buffet was fun ... excellent yogurt, granola, fruit, bacon, eggs, waffles, muffins, etc. All solid and the variety was appreciated. Breakfast is served in the Garden View Restaurant, and it has lovely windows that look out over the Christmas lights (and probably a lovely garden view in non-Christmas times.)
Overall this place was exceptional. Room, grounds, staff all exceptional. Particularly the staff. Truly an excellent...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA gracious 2/5 stars, Had a big group of family stay for a few days for a wedding, if you plan on having an event here please read. We had multiple rooms and all faced the same problems, stains on furniture, carpets, dirty and stained bedding, very uncomfortable mattresses, stained bathtubs. When asked for new bedding because there was giant stains going all the way through the comforter down to the mattress (like they didnāt change the bedding from the last person and didnāt realize the previous person spilled something)ā¦they brought a new sheetā¦. Then was asked for a whole new set and they brought 4 more thin sheets⦠just surprised they couldnāt come change the whole bed set. Thereās signs telling you NOT to take your towels from your room for the pool and hot tub but in reality they donāt change the towels at the pool very often which is frightening because they arenāt that busy , we had to call and wait for them to bring towels which took awhile, they ended up giving us towels and the small towels for dropping out of the shower on lol, had the same problem the next night and I know they didnāt have many people out there so we were concerned on how often they are really washing the dirty towels that sit out there. hot tub wasnāt clean either!! Bring your towels from your room lol. DURING the wedding ceremony they had leave blowers, maintenance and landscapers on tractors driving around and coming up close to the property and made such a. Distraction⦠how did they not get notified there is WEDDING and maybe not to go up on the grass and surroundings of the wedding DURING the wedding ? And if your thinking about getting the unlimited bar , read through everything itās not unlimited and anything that is not on your menu will rack up onto your tab unless you hassle the bar tender to do there job and tell people ordering drinks that arenāt included to pay for there own drink. The signs for events are super small and they donāt block anything off so bring your own unless you want the rest of the people staying in the hotel, maintenance and staff walking in and out and through your event at all times Iām not sure why bigger signs werenāt put up at the entrances of the event space or at least on the doors that go in and out of the hotel from the event space ⦠the staff was not prepared for any kind of event, the food was late and they gave us things we didnāt even order, considering it was a wedding it was big portions of stuff we didnāt order and had a ton of people waiting for. the taco bar was sliced chicken, tortillas, and verde salsa. No cheese, onion, lettuce, etc. but the dinner food was good. . the breakfast was free and not great, Iāve had better from a small dinky hotel counter. They should take some of there breakfast items off there menu and spend money on some better more common options. For example Iād rather have a bagel over rice puddingā¦. They had some dirty chairs and table cloths as well, but a good set up and space. There tavern was fun and a nice little bar to go to for live music and to hang out meet new people, The garden around the event space is pretty and has cute decor, the staff was nice but you can tell they are NOT prepared and not set up for success , all our issues are due to poor management and corporate -the staff you see are not the ones to blame. You can tell this place was once nice , the set up of the rooms and amenityās are nice but arenāt being taken care...
