Excuse the super long review but this place is ridiculous. My wife and I chose to celebrate our anniversary at Rainbow Mountain Resort based on positive feedback from people we trust. Unfortunately, it seems their experiences were from a time when the resort was under better management. We tried hard not to leave a negative review, but there were too many issues to ignore. We stayed at the Cherry House, which was advertised as having a spacious room, a private bathroom, and a TV. However, the room was extremely small and outdated. The TV was a 26-inch flatscreen propped precariously on the dresser, and at one point, it slid off, knocking our belongings to the floor. The walls were scuffed, with multiple dents and nail holes. The windows lacked screens, meaning we couldn't open them for fear of letting in bugs or small animals since we were on the first floor. The carpet appeared old and unclean, and there were spider webs covering the ceiling. The bathroom was the one positive aspect, with modern stone floors and a cute vanity. The heat and the toilet worked well, so we had no issues there. Customer service was a major disappointment. Despite the staff being friendly, they struggled to service us even though we were the only guests there. The food took an hour to arrive, with the excuse that it was made fresh—yet, it was of poor quality. My wife, who is a professional chef, couldn’t understand how they could mess up simple dishes like fried rice and tortellini. Even basic items like coffee or a toasted bagel with butter were done wrong. My wife requested tea, and they filled her cup only halfway with water. When she asked for a refill, they brought back her old mug with the used tea bag, which they had clearly retrieved from the kitchen sink. Housekeeping was also a letdown. We left the room service sign on our door, but no one came to change the sheets or towels. After spilling something on the bed, we personally requested new linens, even repeating our room number, but the sheets were never replaced. The staff left for the day at 3 PM without informing us that guest services were closed for the evening. We spent our last night sleeping on top of the comforter because the linens had never been changed. To add to the frustration, they didn’t even provide extra tissue, and we had to use Uber Eats to get more. Our last day there was a Drag Brunch which was a wonderful performance however aside from a couple that came with one of the performers we were the only people in attendance. My wife and I thought there would be more people from the LGBTQ+ community there but we just came across a few straight couples checking in and out. Although the resort has potential, it seems the management has no interest in renovating or improving the experience. Based on other reviews, it’s clear that they aren’t making any efforts to address these ongoing issues. While we enjoyed our time in town, especially on Main St., we will not be staying at Rainbow Mountain Resort again.

2nd time back at this LGBTQ resort. Only a few upgrades since 4 years ago. The rooms are nothing to write home about. Very basic accommodations, especially for the price. Prior stayed in the cherry house which was not super nice, old motel style. This time the cabins which we liked very much. And dog friendly! Cons- water took FOREVER to heat up. Took many freezing showers. There was so much dust on the room fan and bathroom fan. The trash outside the cabins doesn’t have a lid and every night would be knocked over by the critters and was never picked up. Myself and another guest picked up a couple times but it was never emptied or picked up by staff. Staff was very nice but you could tell were Incredibly tired and overworked. Saw the same bartender all day and the pool then all night at the club. Not sustainable for them. The continental breakfast was bare minimum and they were often out of coffee. No non-dairy milk option. :( Pro- the pool is phenomenal! Huge, clean, fun. Poolside entertainment- boy band drag show and dj. The grounds were mostly nice. Before the trail around the lake was pleasant. This trip it was very unkempt and hard to walk around, the trail Could be really lovely again. The cabin a/c got very cold which was great esp for our dog while we were out and about. Bring your own food. It took our friend over 1.5h to get a salad! Prior visit had great food with vegan options, not this time. Pack your own food or go into town. It will be faster and better. The club music was hit or miss. One dj was great while the other was meh. There were a lot of straight people in the club when we were there. You could tell they were uncomfortable and gawked as us like zoo animals. From what I heard the 3rd party websites to book the resort don’t say it’s a gay resort. It SHOULD. There are so few LGBTQ resorts as it is, can we just have our spaces? There were some cool Folks who were clearly allies and came with queer people though. This place is really a gem and really could attract more LGBTQ people. It needs a lot of room renovations and better food. And more staff! If you’re in the area you can still visit the pool, I think $10/day totally worth it! And also the club is open to everyone. There’s also a nice hiking area just down the road about 3 minutes.

Could not have been much worse, which is I guess a badge of honor? We used to love Rainbow Mountain because it’s the only place in the area like it. In fact, we have stayed many times. This time, we recommended it to my old college friend and his partner. All four of us (without really discussing it much) stayed exactly one night and forfeited the second night in order to escape back to the comfort and cleanliness of our own homes. It’s a shame. My partner and I drove separately from Brooklyn. Staff are always so kind and the runaround between them and management feels scripted and never really brings satisfaction (which creates the default we experienced of just leaving.) Truly horrendous treatment of the community. In our case, my room was changed without giving me any notice. I don’t know what went wrong in the Lodge, but that was the first surprise. Our room in Cherry House was incredibly run down and, well, not clean. There were dead insects, damaged utilities, the smell of roach killer, hair in the shower, crust on the floor, etc. My partner wrapped a towel around a razor sharp exposed edge of a decaying baseboard heater. I asked simply if we could upgrade our room. I didn’t even complain. After the back and forth dance with the owner, it was clear that although there was availability and we hadn’t touched our room, because it was a holiday, there would be no way to do this. We’d have to purchase an additional room. Gosh. As I said, we love the place enough to recommend, the vibe, the people, but between our friends and us, that’s hundreds of dollars we just gave them for nothing. I am so embarrassed for recommending it, as they literally never have off. After a few hours the staff was able to contact the owner and the only solution was to send a cleaner to deep clean. These photos were taken after that. We emptied our bags and shook our things off one by one and sheepishly left after leaving our key. In summary, zero bad blood, love the staff, but they could’ve done (much) better and it all points to poor management and ownership.

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon for a whole week because it was affordable and the pictures on the website looked beautiful and it said that it came with a continental breakfast, it also had a restaurant with a bar which our whole stay all that was closed besides the pool so it’s false advertisement.Check in time was 4pm to 7pm we arrived at 5pm and went to the lobby to check in, there were no lights on and no sign of anyone. We walked around to find someone but it was an absolute ghost town, as you would see in a horror movie. At the lobby there was a phone number to call outside the building to check in, so I called at least 20 times and no one picked up. Almost an hour an 30 minutes go by, an a lady calls me back an she tells me our room number and messages me the code to get in, mean while all this happened while we were outside in a thunderstorm and our clothes were drenched. She also put us in the wrong room because we booked to stay in a cottage, instead we got a king room in the motel, but it had a mini fridge, tv and a ac unit, unlike the cottage so I was pleased with that. When we got to the king room we looked around an found dried up blood on the sheets and also on one of the hand towels, which is disgusting because if there’s blood on anything you should THROW IT AWAY not reuse it! But the worst part is, is that when I was doing my skin care routine I dried my face off with the hand towel that had blood on it not knowing there was blood on it. I felt so disgusted, I rewashed my face then I tried calling the phone number the lady called me back on to give us new sheets and towels, an no one answered! So we slept with no sheets! Next morning I was going to complain to them but again it was a ghost town and one employee got there at 11am to open the pool and bar an she said the manager wouldn’t arrive until Friday afternoon, which our checkout time was 12pm Friday. So we tried to make the best of it, the pool was green and cloudy an the employee said it was because they put cheap chemicals in the pool to clean it so it reacted badly an turned the pool green so I guess that day they went out an bought the expensive chemicals to fix it, an the pool didn’t clear up until the last day we were there. When Friday hit the plan was to check out then come back when the manager was there so we did and we explained to him what bad customer service we experienced and what we walked into our room with dried up blood sheets and towels an all he did was argue with me and say “why didn’t you say anything to anyone when you were staying here, instead of checking out and saying something”? I explained that I tried calling the phone number that I spoke to the lady on the night we checked in and no one answered, and the next few days a lady was working at the pool and she spoke a little bit of English, an she told me the manger would be in on Friday afternoon. And all the manager can say is “ your discriminating against my staff”. All because I said she spoke a little bit of English and he was turning it around on me by making me look like the bad person here. All I wanted was a little bit of my refund back due to the inconvenience of what we went through durning our stay. I took pictures of the dried up bloody sheets as well as the towels and showed it to the manager. If I didn’t take those pictures I feel like the manager wouldn’t have gave me some of my refund back! I highly recommend for anyone to not come here at all, an to save your money for some...

Beware of this property - huge safety concern

Reservation booked on December 31st for myself and my spouse. Upon check in at 4:00pm, EST my room was not ready until 5:00pm, EST, but was given the hotel key by the Front Desk Agent. I asked the agent if it was okay for me to drive up and wait outside the room until it was ready, in which she replied yes. I drove up to the room and saw two housemen still cleaning and mopping the room. About 30 minutes later the houseman then left the room and said I was good to enter. Upon entering, the floor was still very wet and the room had a strong odor of chemical bleach. While loading my luggage into the room, I noticed the room had remaining garbage left behind and the fridge was fully stocked of old takeout food and soda drinks. I proceeded to give the room an opportunity by ventilating the room of the strong toxic smell by turning on the AC unit, which was not functioning.

I then attempted to open the front door for ventilation, in the heighten of winter, but realized it was a safety issue since there were no lighting outside of our door, as I only saw pure darkness. A few minutes later we then opened the window and all we could smell were pure chemical bleach air returning from the window. It was as if someone may have dumped that mopped up bleach water out the window. The room began to get cold and the chemical smell still remained. Checking out was still a dilemma as it was New Years Eve and I would have a 2-hour commute back home to Brooklyn, NY. I then began to get a headache, felt dizzy and very ill and so did my husband.

We were in that room for about 2 hours and I realized this was a safety concern for me and my spouse and if we felt this sick what would happen if we had fallen asleep, as it may have led to a bigger catastrophe. I then made the decision to check out immediately. As I was getting dressed I noticed my black socks had turned pink and my husbands’ joggers had pink stains, as a result of the wet floor cleaned with bleach. At the front desk, I explained the issues to two front desk staff members. One of the staff members gave me a key and I told her she was not listening to my concerns, and I wanted to check out immediately and not be given another room.

Since January 31st I have been following up with your hotel and have not received a courtesy follow up from their mgmt team. I was told by the Front Desk the housemen did not know what they were doing and he usual housekeeper was out sick that day.

They have denied my refund and have not shown one ounce of compassion for my horrific stay. Mgmt has no leadership posture and can not make any decisions without their ownership who is not in tune with the property nor comes on property for visits. The biggest lesson i've learned from this experience is to follow your initial instincts and pay attention to reviews on other websites before booking with horrendous hotels...
