Worth the stay. Although the review is not a 5 star I will be returning to stay. I just know more about the nuances of staying here to make my next stay better. 1st - it is a excellent location on the mountain with ample parking and bike parking in front of your room. It's right at the end of the tail on the NC side. Less than a minute from your room you can be riding The Dragon, Moonshiners run, The room was exactly as expected with a queen bed and twin bunks. It was clean and other than the window coverings being a little short in covering the windows completely it was a room which serves its purpose. Most of the staff was nice but any management I saw always seemed angry or just not approachable for any question you might have. The guests were all friendly bikers trekking from all over so there was plenty of conversation outside the rooms and around the large fire pit once the rain stopped. It was a good time and everyone was respectful of the quiet hours. Love the floormat and shower curtain, they are a great touch.
I understand some of the reasoning about the rest of the review but here's what you need to know. I was only there one night, a Sunday. A thunderstorm rolled in right after me -thunder off the mountain was insane cool. Once I settled it was 7:15pm and the storm was on. But the grill, lights, and ability to get dinner wasnt. The last thing anyone wants to do is drive an unknown mountain road at night in a storm. Pringles and brownie bites from my pack and an orange crush from their soda machine was dinner. Good thing I had change.
As an early riser I went to the grill when I woke up just after 7am. Walked over and the door to the shop was unlocked so I walked in and was greeted with a "sorry we aren't ready for you yet" from one of the management. Ready is 8am.Unfortunately I was ready 12 hours earlier.
I'm sure there is a reason for these hours so they can save money on the slower times of day by trimming the ends but given the location they would be better served having something like a food/sandwich vending machine for the off hours. Once I was able to eat the food off the grill after 8 it hit the spot.
For what and where it is, it is perfect. But don't expect more than the room and whatever you have with...
Read moreGreat motel to stay at the Dragon! I have been at hotels twice this price and half as clean!! Basic accommodations with a queen bed and a bunk bed perfect for a trio as we were. It’s by far one of the CLEANEST places I have ever stayed at ! crisp with new paint and they have definitely put thought into riders needs. There is a small fridge, microwave and a shelving unit for your gear- they also have helmet and apparel hooks. The firepit was great to decompress and meet new people after a long day of riding . They even have a rag station available to use for that morning dew||Our internet in the room wasn’t working but we could step outside and connect to the motel wifi . If you have 3-4 people in your room no worries on 1 shower or toilet there is a bathhouse just a few steps outside with shower and toilets . ||Restaurant was quick and affordable and they have some snacks and drinks avail in the gift shop and a gas station.||Just a heads up - we arrived at 8pm but they make it easy to get your room after the office (gift shop) has closed .. just screenshot your reservation info since there’s no wifi to retrieve your confirmation when you arrive! ||the restaurant hours are determined by the flow of people and closed early the day we arrived. We were prepared after seeing reviews and planned accordingly - we had made sandwiches and brought some frosty beverages with us on our journey so we had what we needed for the evening knowing it would be late when we arrived.||Make sure you plan accordingly and stop to eat and get some beverages on the way if you’re arriving later in the day or evening - there is nothing in the middle of nowhere for gas or food or beverages !||Since you’re at the south end of the tail expect to hear cars zooming until about 2 am and bikes revving as early as 6am (not a complaint it’s to be expected but just a note for those who may be light sleepers ) ||If you’re looking for an affordable CLEAN basic motel room right at the tail of the dragon this is your place ! If you’re looking for luxury and pampering keep on going! ||We will definitely be back...
Read moreLet's get something straight from the start. This is not the Ritz. This review is about Deals Gap and who it is intended to serve. Deals Gap offers an amazing experience right at the very start of the Tail of the Dragon. You can't get a better location. Period. The office has had snacks, soft drinks and beer, and a good selection of souvenirs. The attached restaurant has a good basic menu. Larger rooms are bunkhouse style, accommodate upto 6 guests and are clean and private, not fancy. There is a fire pit, and grills are available for guests to use. Cell phone reception is poor and the Wi-Fi is just OK. Motorcycles come in and out throughout the day and early evening because this is a great stop for people riding the Tail of the Dragon. Which is the point. If you come here for anything else you are missing out. This is a motorcycle resort and one of the best experiences I have had on two wheels in a long time. So, ride the dragon, grab a burger and six pack, a patch and a T-shirt. Talk to other bikers, look at some stars and enjoy the ride. If you are here because you want someone to bring your bags to your room, you've lost your mind. If you want great roads, good people and bucket list level experience, this is your place. I...
