We have spent 15 anniversaries at Snowbird Mountain Lodge, since 2003. This year was our 45th Anniversary, and our first visit since the Indigo Corporate group purchased the lodge. Unfortunately, we will not be returning due to the complete lack of customer service, and warm hospitality that we have always found at Snowbird. We never saw the General Manager during our 4 day stay! He/she did not greet us at dinner, or ask about our stay, or seem to be on property at all. There was a skeleton crew, with one person attempting to serve breakfast, and it was a holiday weekend! The Front Desk was unmanned most of the time during our 3-night stay over the 4th of July holiday. In the past we have always had an anniversary card with chocolates in our room at check-in, and a candle stuck in our dessert at dinner. Even though I noted it was our 45th anniversary, not one staff member acknowledged our special day. For the first time ever, we saw many empty rooms, and there were only about 25 lodge guests at the 4th of July BBQ, which strangely was not held until July 6th. ||So many amenities were missing, including the wonderful logo Snowbird soap, lotion, and shampoo. The Gift Shop seemed to be going out of business, and no longer stocked the gift sets of soap I always purchased to take home. Instead there were odd items like 2XL Snowbird chef's coats, and department store bed sheet sets. ||The dinner menu, which always changed every day, is now a fixed menu, with many substitutions. Our soup was luke-warm, and there was a huge lag between the salad and the entree each night. The peach shortcake was made with canned peaches! The beautiful water feature in the dining patio is gone, and the soothing water features on the grounds are no longer operational. The gas fire in the Summer House was not working, and the hammock chairs were gone.||Our backpack lunch was missing a sandwich, (which fortunately we caught before we left for a day of hiking) and when I finally tracked down the Front Desk a sandwich was made, but the dressing was left off. The next day our turkey sandwiches, were accompanied by packaged Ken's ranch dressing, rather than a homemade spread as in the past. Our room needed dusting, there were spider webs, and there were hairs on the bathroom floor. The first day, there was no hot water for a shower. ||Snowbird has always been a refuge where we could enjoy nature and count on great food and hospitality in a laid-back setting. Unfortunately, it is now an over-priced corporately-owned hotel, lacking all of the things that once made...
Read moreMy husband and I flew into Asheville and drove two hours to get to the lodge. The last 45 min was curvy mountains and dark roads. We luckily arrived before sunset. We stayed in Wolf Lodge 2 which is detached from but next to the main lodge and has about 20 stair steps to get to it. It had a gas fireplace, that with a touch of a button went on and off, and a private screened in deck with a jacuzzi for two. There is no TV!! Room was comfortable, well appointed and very clean. Maid service by Sandra was superb! ||FOOD: Steak, French fries, hamburgers, appetizers, salads, soups were excellent. There were 5 other entrees some of which we tried and were good. Desserts were delicious and also a good selection. Had a great bar selection operated by friendly Robert. During dinner you could fill out what you would like to take as a to go lunch for the next day and the choices were plentiful and sandwiches were large and delicious. Rate included food not alcohol. |Breakfasts choices were good.||The staff wore many hats and they could not be any more attentive and friendly. They worked hard and they were short staffed but all chipped in wherever needed. Extra tipping is well deserved. Zack assisted in the resturant and was always professional, attentive and helpful. The waitresses were also wonderful. ||The grounds were immaculate and so beautifully maintained not to mention the gorgeous mountain views. If you love to hike this is the place for you. So many trails. Don't miss Yellow Creek falls and Huckleberry Knob!! Fontana Dam is a very interesting site. ||The grounds had several fire pits but one imparticular was centered within a large screened patio. There were bikes, canoes, paddle boards, kayaks, tennis and pickle ball rackets, fly fishing equipment, and hammocks that you could use at no additional cost. The lodge housed games and books to enjoy. The lake to use canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards was a 5 minute car ride. The marina rents pontoons for 125.00 per hour and it is about a 20 min car ride. ||The town of Robbinsville is a 25 minute ride from the lodge and there is a large Ingles grocery store. The Pineapple Whip truck is a worthy destination when you are passing through. Everything is a drive. It seems most people leave the lodge daily and return in the late afternoons. If you're looking to relax and not have a busy schedule this is a...
Read moreWe enjoyed a relaxing several days at Snowbird this past week. The food (except alcohol, of course) is included in the room charge, and every meal really was exceptional. They even prepare a bag lunch for you every morning that you can take with you as you explore the area. The lodge itself has great views and there are plenty of spots around the grounds where you can relax with a good book while viewing the nearby hillsides. With dining included in the cost of the room, I felt that the Snowbird rates were really a good value. Relative to activities, do some research before you go so you wonât waste time trying to develop your itinerary on the fly (in areas that have sketchy cell service). There are tennis courts on site, but you will likely be driving to just about everything else that you do in the area. Snowbird keeps a few basic kayaks, canoes, and SUPs at Lake Santeetlah (a short drive away) which make for a pleasant way to spend some time, and there are other boating and fishing rental companies doing business on the lake as well. The lodge has some mountain bikes for guest use, but theyâre a bit challenging to use unless youâre able to transport them to a nearby trail. If youâre planning to hike, check recent reviews on line to determine where you want to go; we found that some of the Forest Service trails in the Kilmer Forest (other than the Memorial Loop) were extremely overgrown and not enjoyable. Some of the trails on the Cherohala Skyway were a bit better. The Skyway and other driving routes offer sightseeing opportunities, so if thatâs your preference you will want to research which route caters to your interests. In summary, the lodge, staff, and food were all outstanding, and the nearby outdoor activities are quite varied â but you need to do your...
