I planned a weekend getaway to the Driftless area for my husband and chose the Tobacco Warehouse Inn due to its location and uniqueness.
Booking online was easy and I got an immediate confirmation, but I didn’t receive any other communication up to our arrival. Because of that, I assumed there was a check-in desk somewhere, however, when we arrived we were not sure what to do. Luckily we ran into another couple who told us we should have received a code to the door in an email or text— nope! The only communication I had was my confirmation. After a quick call the number listed on the reservation, I did get the code. The person who answered told me I didn’t get any communication because I had marked that this was a surprise—- yes, it was a surprise for my husband, not from me?! He clearly knew about the issue but nothing had been done to remedy this. I think some sort of sign with the after hours number or something would have been nice at the location itself.
After the check-in fiasco we settled into our room. We stayed in the Crawford Suite. It was very cute and we liked the kitchenette area—fun bonus! It was also nice to have the little sitting area where we could relax and watch tv at night. It was also tastefully decorated. The bed was comfy and the shower had nice pressure and hot water!
Our room could have been a bit cleaner— there were some dead bugs on the floor and some spiders, and the shower curtain liner could be changed. The kitchen was also missing a dish cloth so we improvised.
With a little more TLC (a little more cleaning, tidying up the parking area, etc.)this place could really be something!
Overall, we did...
Read moreA special place and a great home base for exploring the Kickapoo area. The transformation of the warehouse is really good and comfortable with some nice high end finishes and unique wall art yet exposed Doug fir beams and original iron columns. We stayed in the Freeman Suite with a full kitchen making meals easy (not a lot of options for eating out in Soldiers Grove proper - although a drive to Viroqua or neighboring town widens the options) - the bathroom was well appointed, large. The bedroom was in the back with a comfortable mattress and lovely bedding. The living space in front worked fine for relaxing. There is some sound transfer from the living quarters upstairs, not a problem - just present. The immediate surroundings are residential for the most part but Soldiers Grove is small so be prepared to get in you car to...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay in Soldiers Grove at TWI. The room was very nicely laid out and the bed was great. The kitchenette is very nice considering there aren’t many food options in the town. We cooked breakfast each morning on the stove top with elk and bison steaks and eggs from the meat shop in town. The kitchen was also stocked with basic dishes and cookware (some salt and pepper would have been nice). Coffee pods, tea and oatmeal packs were also available with sugar and cream.
Parking was super convenient and the keypad was easy to use. Management was easy to communicate with and checking in early was not a problem.
I’d recommend this for anybody visiting the area or looking for a...
