Overall...our experience was just so so.
Pros:
Cons:
Lack of transparency. AFTER paying when we arrived, Laurie then took us to our room and explained both the jacuzzi jets and the fireplace were not operational. I understand things break down, but it would have nice if this was mentioned BEFORE we paid or even if we were given a discount due to the inconvenience. Instead we were told, "things happen and you just have to make the best of it." Didn't like how this was handled.
Heavy pet odor. We could immediately smell a dog odor upon arrival and we had allergy issues during our entire stay. This was annoying.
Uncomfortable bed / pillows. We ended up going to buy pillows while we were there. Would recommend bringing your own pillows from home if you can.
No room cleaning service provided. Owners claimed this was due to COVID. However, hotels have been providing cleaning services all year so this just didn't make sense.
Couple other odd things:
The bathroom / toilet in the larger room isn't private. There's no door. Not the end of the world but definitely not ideal and created some embarrassing situations.
We asked for an extra set of towels. Owners explained new towels usually aren't given until the second night. They eventually provided them but it was just weird.
No TVs. Again not the end of the world, but just be aware of this detail.
No candles allowed (but they have candles in pictures on their website?)
This was my girlfriend's first experience with a bed & breakfast and likely will be her last as a result of this trip. At the end of the day, I'm glad we stayed here and we made the best of it. But it's not a place I...
Read moreMy wife and I recently rented the larger , and more expensive of the two rooms, due to the promised Jacuzzi tub and the gas log fireplace. After taking our full payment we were told that the Jacuzzi was broken , don't use it or the gas log fireplace. We were told that the Kitchen was OFF LIMITS and that the coffee would be available at 8:00 AM. He really meant, 8am ,not a minute before and DON'T touch the coffee pot. If you want a up of coffee ask for it and HE would pour it. On our last day there I attempted to refill my coffee cup myself and the owner charged in front of me blocking me from the coffee pot and reminding me of his RULES. We checked out the room and found the bath soap dispenser empty. We brought it to the attention of the owner who questioned our honesty. It took repeated requests to get a bar of soap. During our three day stay there we requested fresh towels. We were told that they were NOT available. That couldn't be true because we were the only guests. Two total towels for two rental rooms? We never received the fresh towels. The two days that we accepted his breakfasts he served us obviously rotten fruit in champaign glasses. The first day there was actually very visiable black mold on the raspberries!! We were so shocked we did know what to say. We passed on breakfast the third morning. The owner never made us feel welcome or comfortable. We ended up feeling that we were an imposition on him, that we were imposing on his private sanctuary , and that he wouldn't be renting out rooms if he didn't have to. Clearly an UNPLEASANT STAY! Incidentally, this is the only negative review we...
Read moreWow! A Breath of Heaven B and B was the perfect spot for my husband and my first visit to MI! We had done a lot of research before choosing this B and B, and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect one.|It had everything we love in a B and B..beautiful, peaceful grounds, delicious breakfasts, comfortable rooms and of course..exceptional hosts that you walk away from at the end of your visit saying “ wow, I have just made new friends!”|Scott and Laurie made us feel so welcome, went out of their way to share tips of the area, and it was so lovely to start our day with an amazing breakfast. Scott made delicious egg scrambles, French toast with blueberry compote, bacon, fruit and more. Could we have stayed in a hotel in the area? Of course, but we love to interact with our hosts, and other guests if they are there, and just start each day in a delightful, easy way. And A Breath of Heaven allows one to do just that.|I was able to get out in their neighborhood and run first thing in the morning, and relax on their back porch looking out over fields of green. The room was very large, the bed was comfortable, and the shower hot and welcoming after some hard hikes. We did not get a chance to use the tub/ jacuzzi, but perhaps another time! Lastly, the B and B is located in an EXCELLENT area for one to reach charming villages, and of course Great Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is where we spent 3 days!|Our many thanks to Laurie and Scott for being the first of the Michiganders who made our visit so perfect!|Our many thanks to Laurie and Scott for a...
