I’ve stayed at Yosemite Westgate Lodge several times over the years and have never had a problem — until this visit. Unfortunately, this time was a letdown across the board.
At check-in, I requested a top-floor room — as I had already done via email beforehand. I was told there was no availability upstairs and that the lodge was fully booked. That was understandable — until I returned from dinner about 90 minutes later and saw new guests checking in… directly into the room above mine. So much for being “fully booked.”
From that point on, my daughter and I endured constant stomping and pounding from the ceiling above — loud, repetitive, and echoing throughout our room. It went on for over an hour.
I called the front desk and politely asked — again — if we could be moved to an upstairs room. I was told nothing could be done because the evening housekeeping crew was on shift. After my third polite request, I received the same response. An hour later, the noise persisted. I called again — no answer after 30 rings. So I walked down to the front desk and calmly asked whether the "8.2 rating" posted on the counter reflected customer service — because if so, it didn’t match what I was experiencing. The response? Nothing could be done until 10 PM.
To her credit, Pam later called me directly and made a genuine effort to help identify the noise source. I appreciated her professionalism. But as a paying guest, I shouldn't have to spend part of my evening investigating noise disturbances myself.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only issue. The shower didn’t work — only the tub faucet operated, regardless of how many times we tried the diverter. So, no working shower all weekend.
On Sunday morning, I walked to the front office to fill my water bottle, only to find the office locked and the water dispenser empty. Back in the room, I tried to make coffee, but the machine lacked water and produced a lukewarm, barely drinkable cup.
The one positive: the in-room mini-fridge with a working icebox — a small touch that was helpful after long days in the park. That, however, was the only real highlight.
Bottom line: I paid over $300 per night, and this stay did not come close to justifying that price. Between unresolved noise issues, a non-functioning shower, lack of responsiveness from the front desk, and poor attention to guest basics, this experience was a sharp drop in quality from my past visits. At best, this stay was worth half the price. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously. Yosemite Westgate Lodge has been a reliable and peaceful option in the past — I’d like to see it return to...
Read moreRead moreNOT A 3-STAR HOTEL nor a lodge by any means...just a "not a cheap motel" at over $900 for 3-nights. Although (basically) clean and neat, beds are VERY dated I.e. poor mattresses although with good sheets. New, very clean bathroom even if the toilet is a foot from the floor...great for dwarf guests. Nice fluffy towels but smell like lye or cheap soap (beware of allergic reactions). VERY NOISY you can hear nearly everything from the room next door including door slamming, stomping/walking on the floor, talking, toilet flushing, etc. Flies & moths in the room due to big gaps around the outside door. Restaurant next door accompanied by flies and a menu with fried, fried, fried food & service as slow as the 2nd coming of Christ. Would never go back to this lodge. 7/17/2019 AFTER A RESPONSE FROM THE LODGING OWNER "The restaurant is not their ownership or management". BUT IT'S STILL A COUNTRY DIVE JOINT & IT'S ADVERTISED ON THEIR WEBSITE. Most of the time NO Wi-Fi: heard the front desk tell 3 different stories as to why it wasn't available (mostly because of "your carrier service"). The receptionist asked first "who's your carrier" then proceeded to blame your carrier. 7/17/2019 AFTER A RESPONSE FROM THE LODGING OWNER REGARDING this then I say "why do you advertise Wi-Fi if it doesn't work all the time AND the Wi-Fi is a direct connection to the property and has nothing to do with a carrier. ONLY if the smartphone owner does not connect to the Wi-Fi would that matter. We tried for 4-days at all hours and were rarely able to connect to the property Wi-Fi. One of the main reasons we chose this property is their advertised Free Wi-Fi. "WiFi is available but may be limited in effectiveness due to our wooded natural surroundings" JUST DOESN'TNT CUT IT, when we had service via At&T & Verizon everywhere else. You need to increase your bandwith! Receptionist knew nothing about the area so unable to help understand the map, etc. Dirty carpeting with a big wet spot, broken desk chair & torn curtains. Refrigerator so noisy I had trouble sleeping...thanks to Ambien Cr 12.5mg I finally got to sleep through all the racket (especially a family of 5 next door banging and loud until after 11pm. All in all I'd say this is a place for a young family on a tight budget that only cares about a shower & bed, limited TV reception & nice little pool. The redeeming grace for this establishment was it's location, convenient to Route 120 and all the areas I wanted to vist on my first visit...
This lodge is in a decent place and offers average rooms. The problem is, the male owner/ manager is very rude to customers. We called the hotel before we got there and mentioned that we would be getting there at 10:20 pm . They said this was no problem. When we got there though, this owner was yelling at a mom and daughter. The laundry closed and they didn’t get their clothes out in time . They said they had an early flight and just wanted to get their clothes out. He refused to help. If you get there late you can’t go into the office, you have to talk through a window. He told the mom and daughter to go away and walked off. It took him a while to come back to the window and even pay attention to us. He seemed very frustrated that we got there late and hurried us out , even though we had questions . We were also charged a late check in fee that was not mentioned on the phone. The next day we decided to go to the pool in the evening. It said it closed at 10 pm . 10 min before 10pm, he comes out and just says to everyone …. “We closed… we closed” then shuts the gate. Overall not a super friendly guy. He also told some kids to get off the playground at 10pm that were just sitting there. The playground isn’t even in a gated part. It’s basically run like there is a mandatory curfew. This really isn’t a safety thing. It’s solely due to his confidence . Not opening the laundry room up for 5 min is not a safety thing . Kicking people out of the pool and playground early is not a safety thing . I would just say let the other employees run the show . They were very kind and made the stay a little better. Anytime I would ask for extra towels or other amenities at the front desk and saw him , I would just prepare for some sarcasm or looks of annoyance. Why work in a public setting if you hate the public ? Anyway , I will also say the room charges were confusing . Why is there extra person fees for a 4 person room . There were also other random unlabeled charges that were not explained. He just ushered us out quickly after checkout, like everything else . I’m not saying the other employees were like this , they were...
