New owners are horrible! They charge you $45 just to park and you have to rent 2 hr increments for their tubes. $20 for adults and $15 for each kid. Only one person runs the sign waiver who barely spoke English so line backed up. The restroom filthy not stocked toilet seat covers even at 9 am when they just opened!. The other people who watch you sled down under staffed they don’t put rubber mats in each lane. I think they have not hired enough people so the runs are unmanned and accidents happen left and right, not to mention lines are every which way. Why do they charge parking fee to play with their snow only when the whole mountain has free snow! So you are forced to rent their tubes. I drive 10 hrs up every year to go to this place for last 7 years. No more for me unless they change price gouging. Unless they are doing this to make up deficit for last few years or the amount they paid to get this place.
The walk up the hill is very tiring so little kids will have hard time, my legs burn and I’m hugging and puffing, plus standing in line to go down the tube can take 10 mins or so… with 2 hr time limit you will go down a few times only and times up. This is their first winter so it’s chaotic. The two hour limits is to control the crowd I assume but due to their lack of organization I don’t know how they would enforce it or people would care to adhere to it to be honest. I see people bringing their sleds and just play on the side or you can probably just hop the fence and get the tubes for free later in the day. Understaffed, price gouging. Next winter I am sure the kinks will be worked out but I like many others probably won’t be coming anymore since there are plenty of free side of the road places to sled for free.
There is no 500 feet snake run, they are all straight down only. I see kids fly off the orange next somersaulted out, I landed back of my neck after I somersaulted, good thing I’m not paralyzed, families fly off too. Again it’s the first year so it’s understaffed.
Overall it’s fun but you can be spending about $200 or more on 5-6 slopes only. It’s nice because it’s premade. Also it says you can no longer bring outside food so you can only buy their vending machine or their overprice chicken tenders pizza hot cocoa, before cup o noodles $5. Really? People come in families with minivans and cars. Newsflash there will be coolers and food in those family cars. There is no point buying Swiss mix hot cocoa for $4 when you can just bring that in your thermal cup. Buying microwave food at gourmet prices? Seems like probably greedy middle...
Read moreThis location was extremely poorly managed. We arrived about 15 minutes before opening and had to wait on the side of the road until 10 o’clock when they opened. Once they opened, it was probably another 20 to 30 minutes of waiting while the people ahead of us paid, and we were towards the front! Note that once you pay for parking at the front gate, there’s still an additional payment that needs to be done in the main building so that’s even more waiting with the additional paperwork to fill out. Needless to say we didn’t start tubing until about 10:45am - an hour from when we arrived.
As you can see from the pictures, there was barely any snow. There were employees in the tubing area but they weren’t assisting almost at all. One was directing people to the tubes, but not giving them to people. Others were around the tubing but we’re not directing traffic or helping to speed up the long lines that were forming.
We were some of the first to start tubing, and there were only two lanes open for us. There were two additional lanes that were much shorter and meant for smaller children. After more people arrived, and there was a very long wait, they opened an additional two lanes, which was very helpful. It was extremely icy, and many people were slipping while walking up to the top.
Lastly, this is NOT a two hour tubing session as was claimed on the website. There is a block of time between 10 AM and 12 PM. since we arrived and around 1030 or 1045 we only had about an hour or an hour and a half to sled.
In general, for the extremely high price you pay, this is simply a small upgrade to in a park. Next time we go. We’ll choose another site.
Also, one last pro tip … sledding should always be done in the morning as the snow is still firm and not slushy like it will be in the afternoon. We’ve received the same guidance from other locations and found it very helpful. It’s worth it to get up early in the morning instead of going down the slower tracks...
Read moreEDIT 2024: Much has changed since my initial review. This place was bought out by another company and they are squeezing you hard for every penny. Ride time is more limited now, everything costs more, they cracked down on any outside food, no outside sleds or tubes, ypu must rent theirs. It's not inflation folks, it's greed. Just be willing to pay more for less. Google the Sno Play parks first like Echo Lake or Taylor, and then consider other tubing resorts.
I tried getting in at 9:20 on Sunday 1/18, holiday weekend. It was sold out all day, with employees waving away any car that tried to pull in. Hwy 50 was extremely busy, and there was no parking left at all the roadside sledding spots for a long time. The next day, MLK day, I arrived early, at 8:20. There were a few cars ahead in line, in the driveway. By the time the green barrier was opened at 8:40, the line went down Hwy 50. Then we waited at the ticket booth until 9:00. When I left at 12:30, there was a line about 6 cars deep at the ticket booth, anyone was able to pull in and wait.
The parking lot is very close to the slopes with many ways in and out, you can go back and forth no problem. There are large areas on the sides of the slopes that people set up chairs and hung out, and kids explored the hillside, building snowmen and throwing snowballs. There is a snack shop with benches to eat at, signs say no outside food but you could easily eat your own picnic away from the benches. The slopes had three different speeds/heights. They had 4 shorter slower slopes, and I think 5 medium speed, 3 or 4 fast and high. All kinds of plastic, hard foam or inner tube sleds were used and worked fine. The inner tubes they rent have hard plastic bottoms and were the safest cushiest ride.
There is no lift, so you're walking up the slopes every time, and its quite steep just before getting to the...
