Absolutely gorgeous drive, even in a 18 wheeler. First time in the winter, in a snowstorm, and second time in the summer. I have to admit, it was a heart pounding ride, and had to peel my britches off the seat when I reached the bottom, but, none the less, it was beautiful, torturous, breathtaking, and challenging. It's a great place for astrophography dark sky's. One esey place is the snow park parking area drive your car to the spot. You can all so hike the many trails around the area as well. You have the pony express trail, Pacific Crest trail as well as the Tahoe rim trail. I all so got a good photo of the comet...
