We booked a king hotel room in the Mountain Club (ski in / ski out) for three nights. However we were given an old 1970's condo in the Meadows (not ski in / ski out) and quite the walk from the lifts. ||||We had an adjoining door in the condo which was paper thin and most unfortunately we could hear everything going on in the guest room next door, including the tv blaring at late night. The heater rattled and shook all night. Hence maybe why housekeeping puts our earplugs???||||The was dirty, trash on the floor in and bath suit was in the bathroom drawer. ||||The next morning after speaking to the front desk who transferred us to Vail Resorts and then back to the front desk, we were move to the Mountain Club to a room that two double beds not a King as reserved. Not ideal for two 5'9" and 6'3" adults. ||||The bathroom stank of mildew. ||||The glasses & mugs in the bar were dirty. The shower dribbled water from the faucet.||||We were not permitted to park in the Mountain Club facility even though our room / reservation was there. We had to park it all the way back at the Meadows.||||We were not given a key to ski lockers. ||||This is the first hotel (in this price point) we have ever stayed in the does not service the rooms. We learned upon check out that you have to schedule housekeeping to clean your room, bring your towels, remove trash etc. ||||The property is down trodden and well used. ||||The staff from management (front desk) to the restaurants were disgruntled and just unfriendly. ||||FYI most of restaurants close between 8-9 pm.||||I have traveled extensively for ski trips / competitions and the Kirkwood Resort is without doubt Vail Resorts Red Headed Step Child. Which is a shame as the skiing is world class. The potential is there but it seems like no one really cares about maintaining and managing the property.||||We have to come here twice a year for ski comps and I assure you that we will not be booking at Vail Resorts Kirkwood again. Highly recommend going the private...
Read moreOur family with 3 kids stayed here over the holiday weekend for a ski trip. The staff were incredibly helpful in getting us checked in and ready for skiing. One of our kids was crying over some issue and one of the staff took them over and got them some snacks and drinks and it made their day! They got us a parking spot in the garage of the club, no need to park down the mountain.
The hot tub was working (prior reviews claimed it is out of service but looks like they got it fixed). It is fairly small and hot so the kids didn't last long, it's better suited for adult groups than families.
The rooms are decent, a bit dated but everyone was perfectly comfortable. Had all the appliances we needed and everything seemed fairly new. The door code wasn't working and took the front desk a bit to get it working but they helped us quickly. The elevator was very slow and most mornings there was a long line in the morning, but nothing too bad.
There is a great family restaurant (Cornice) that is open until 9pm right across the street. In the morning you have access to food, coffee, ski shops, tickets, right close to the front door. You can walk to the Gondolas, but if you have beginner skiers or want to go to ski/board school you need to take the shuttle two stops down to Timber Creek so budget some time to shuttle over.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and it had everything you would need for a ski in / ski out stay at Kirkwood...
Read moreNo staffing, no maintenance, and no security for this condo/timeshare accommodation, which is across a poorly maintained plaza from the Lodge where you check in, if you can find a staff person to help you. The carpets are worn and patched with duct tape, and the halls smell terrible. Plus there is NO AIR CONDITIONING in the summer, so the halls and the rooms are overly warm. There are no ceiling fans, just an inadequate portable fan in rooms with no cross ventilation and strong mountain sun. Even if you get your own room cooled a bit, it warms up again from the rest of the ambient heat shimmering through walls and doors. The furnishings were outdated and uncomfortable. The keypad locks to the gym and laundry room do not work for entry ("overloaded with codes"); and the spa is permanently closed ("undergoing maintenance"). The toiletry bottles are not cleaned on their exteriors, and our shower door was broken. The dated kitchen was poorly equipped, despite a list inside a cabinet door of all the dishes and utensils that should be available. There was not an easy way to get additional supplies, such as dishwasher detergent, since no one is on site. The underground garage was poorly lit, with burned out automatic lighting at the entry, but the coolest place in the building. None of the restaurants or bars were open during our July visit, including on...
