There are multiple highlights, but I will start with the property itself. Gorgeous setting amid the trees and outdoor features. A gurgling waterfall/stream runs the length of the back of the Inn with lush landscaping. A delightful walkway takes you to a fire pit gathering area, or a spot to view the meadows beyond the trees. It's like being inside of a country French landscape painting. The whole property is pristine, inside and out. The bed was fabulously comfortable with (I peeked because I liked them so much) "Comphy" sheets which are "Developed for Spas, designed for Ahhs." Bed is built with pillow top mattress, thick mattress pad, double sheets, light feather duvet and light quilted coverlet. Incredibly comfortable. The room #301 has a king bedroom and separate living area and is at the top of the building. The balcony is totally private and feels like sitting in a treehouse with lots of bird friends flitting by including some beautiful gold and red finches, and many more. The air conditioning works very quickly and efficiently - heat rises and this is the top, yet it is very comfortable in the summer. The room is a haven of serenity: sage green walls, muted floral carpet, bright white trim, original artwork on the walls. There is a refrigerator and there are wine glasses and ice bucket. Cozy deep seated sofa and lounge chair as well as window seat. The bathroom is perfectly clean. I NEVER bathe in hotel tubs, but this one was so sparkling clean and inviting I indulged and used the fragrant bath bomb. Lovely. The bathroom mirror has a feature where you touch it and change the lighting to three different levels - I like the one that makes me look 10 year younger LOL! The towels seem like they are brand new - thick and gleaming white. The lighting in the room can be dimmed. There are Keurig machines in the hallway - don your luxury spa robe and grab an early coffee for the room. We dined in the common area dining room which is very tranquil and also cheerful. The food and service were first rate. I loved that we started with "dessert" of bananas foster/scones. Like a visit to Grandmas! There is more to say, but find out...
Read moreWe wanted to do a road trip in Iowa to get away for our anniversary.. i have never been to okoboji so thought maybe this would be a good time. I selected the Oakwood Inn due to the excellent reviews.. i was not disappointed at all. When we first entered the room the lights are off but the bedside table lights were on.... And it really set the mood for the beginning of our anniversary.. i had purchased some extras when I booked the room. Red rose petals for the bed, some special snacks made by the innkeeper and some cheesecake made by the innkeeper. And when we arrived and said that it was our anniversary, we were delighted with 2 small bottles of champagne. the extra special touches that the owners provide gives more then enough reasons to come back here again. We had a king room on the first floor. It had a Whirlpool tub in it,a fireplace and patio doors to the outside.. Their landscaping outside is something that would be seen in a magazine. You can tell the owners take great pride of their Inn. The king bed was extra special comfy.. we used the fireplace because it was a bit cool in the evening. They even had a room that they called a den that had a pool table and a TV, comfy couches, snacks and drinks. The Inn and our room was very clean.. i did not see anything at all wrong in our room. The owners even brought our breakfast to our room both mornings that we were there, and the breakfasts were superb. The last morning we were there we had blueberry pancakes, scones, fresh fruit, sausage links, coffee and juice.. and as an extra perk the owner bakes fresh chocolate chip cookies everyday. My husband has already said that he wants to come back to okoboji and I'm sure to go back to the Oakwood Inn. Overall this is the best place to go in Okoboji to treat yourself and to be pampered.
Thank you for making our...
Read moreThis Bed and Breakfast was just what our group of ladies was looking for in terms of a weekend away. The entire place is elegantly decorated, and immaculate. The room was clean and well serviced. It was a double Queen, and comfortably fit four of us. It felt so luxurious staying there. Ample pillows and towels, an extra blanket, lovely furniture, a very large armoire for storage. The fireplace in the room was so cozy. The den in the basement was a great place to spend some time together in our group. We enjoyed bringing our own board games and puzzles down there, and we also enjoyed playing pool at the billiard table!
Little amenities did not go unnoticed. Fresh cookies in a jar as you walk in. Snack mix downstairs in the den. Fully stocked coffee station in the hall with cider, coffee pods and hot cocoa. A list of things to do in Okoboji in the off season, with recommendations for food and shopping.
Breakfast was AMAZING. The dining room is gorgeous, and everything is served on delicate china. We had as much coffee as we could drink. I think my favorite dish was the parfait. Homemade granola, homemade yogurt, and homemade mint jelly. We enjoyed two breakfasts during our stay, and I have to say they were both wonderful. I was so stuffed after each one, and the meals were so delicious it was hard to take the time to savor each bite, because I wanted to keep eating more!
Our group enjoyed chatting with the owner, Bridget at breakfast. She is a great hostess, and you can tell she has a heart for this business. Her attention to detail in both the hospitality side as well as food, decorating, and running a lovely, friendly business is phenominal. My friends and I are already looking forward to the next time we can visit. If you're looking for a place to...
