Comfort Inn St. Clairsville — Hotel in St. Clairsville

Sooooo….we arrived at the hotel to check in. Gave our name, and the desk staff looked perplexed. She asked how I booked and I told her ( third party app) , oh yes she says! I see you here…..for TOMORROW 😬. Oh crap! Yours truly booked the wrong date. Desk staff saved the the day and found a room just like I booked for this night….disaster avoided! Tally one for the staff! |Went up to our room and found it to be just fine! Clean, clean, and clean! King bed, desk and chair, sitting chair and ottoman. Fridge and microwave. Bed was comfortable, coverings clean and fresh.|Breakfast the next morning was served at 5:30….Hell Yea! Eggs, sausage, grits, oatmeal, bagel, waffles, milk, cereal. Let’s talk about the coffee. We had just returned from a trip,to NH and ME, to some high $$$$ b&b. The coffee at those joints was swill! We paid 1/4 of the price to stay at this establishment, and the coffee in the AM was hot, fresh, and delightful. I know it’s only coffee, and tastes differ, but it goes a long way to starting out on a positive day. We stayed here a total of 5 nights. Each day was the same. Delightful.|Room service is upon request, which I’m finding to be the norm nowadays. Fluff the pillows, change the towels,and freshen the room.|Biggest takeaway was the staff. Super super friendly, courteous, helpful, and all around good people. We have stayed in much higher end places, and the staff here are far and above those from the other places.||If forced to list a negative, it would be the highway noise. The motel is right along I70, and the trucks at night could be little loud. Just ask for a room on the backside 😉||Place is a great value! Very rarely can I say that there is nothing about a stay at a hotel that I would change. This is one of them. I made my reservation I using the Choice Hotels app and was surprised to receive a call from Diana a little while later. She saw the request I entered and called to let me know they did not have suites. She wanted to give me the chance to go elsewhere if I really needed the suite. She also described the locations of the available king rooms and asked which I'd prefer. I've never had anyone contact me ahead of time about a special request on my online reservation, so her proactiveness was a surprise. Later, after I arrived and settled in, I called the front desk to ask what cable provider they had so I could look up TV listings. Ten or so minutes later, Diana called to let me know that she remembered the USA Today newspaper had the local TV listings in them if I wanted to get one from the lobby. She was just so cheerful, thoughtful and welcoming. The room itself was spotlessly clean and a nice size. The bed was super comfortable with crisp sheets. My room, 314, was in the back and looked out over a retaining wall and trees. The breakfast was a typical Choice Hotels breakfast, but everything was hot and fresh. Room was clean, bed comfortable. Just had a hard time getting the key card to work to open room door. My husband used the exercise room but could not get in as early as posted time that it would open. Front desk associate said that sometimes the card will not open it until later in the morning. I found it odd that there was not an indoor or outdoor pool on the property. I have never seen a comfort inn that did not have one or the other. My husband enjoyed the egg omelets, sausage and other items on the breakfast buffet. I stuck with the waffles, yogurt, cereal and bagels. Everything was well stocked and breakfast area clean. Going outside to the car, we noticed a sewer type smell which of course was not pleasant and appeared to be coming from the grates in the parking lot. Keep in mind there is nothing that is within walking distance, such as restaurants. You can drive west on national road and find things within a mile or two. I noticed that the laundry area on the second floor was out of order, as well as the computer on the first floor. I could never locate an ice machine on our floor, but perhaps one was on another floor.
