This hotel is old and needs a lot of repairs and updates. The parking lot is HORRIBLE. There are holes all over in the concrete. It needs to be redone. The entrance is overgrown with foliage and trees, making it very difficult to see on coming traffic when leaving the parking lot. If you are wheelchair bound, you'll have a hard time getting in and out of any of the entrances, especially the main doors. There is no elevator. The 2nd floor reeked of cigarette smoke, and the windows on both ends of the hallway were open, despite it being hot, humid, and raining. The window cranks had been removed. They knew the windows were open as I reported both the smell and the windows. The AC was off when I entered the room. I understand needing to save electricity, but setting it at 80° and keeping the curtains closed when the room is vacant would probably be better than having to over tax it when someone turns it on. Or maybe setting it to 76° prior to occupants arriving? The fridge was barely cool and the edges of the room needed a good vacuum. I cleaned the door knob, lock, and it's framing, as well as the light switches. The caulking at the bottom of the tub was stained. The carpet and linoleum were old, which doesn't really matter to me as long as it's clean. I didn't check the bed; I simply threw my own king-size sheet over the whole thing and slept on top of that with a light blanket from home. The mattress was bowed in on both sides. It was either poor quality, old, or both. There was an odd sensor(?) attached to the tv... I hope it was a microphone and not a camera. But also, why would there be a microphone on the tv?? I kept it covered just in case. I did not use the tv. Overall, if all you need is a bed and a bathroom and don't care about quality or updates, you'll be fine there. The room didn't smell bad and was pretty clean. The location is great. Close to the interstate yet tucked back from the main road a bit. Two restaurants and a coffee shop within a block or so.

The room smells and feels damp everywhere. There are cobwebs all over the room. The bathroom door requires all the force you can muster to get it closed. There is no fitted sheet on the mattress, just a flat sheet to sleep on top of if you can manage to make it stay underneath you. Overall I would not stay in this location again. That being said, the staff I interacted with were very nice, the lobby looks nice, and the location is wonderful. I booked a regular king room and when I arrived I was told they didn't have any king rooms available, so I was offered a free upgrade to a king suite. That was very nice of them, but if this room is an upgrade, I'm scared to know what the regular king room would have looked like!

Nice place and comfortable everything was good. Even though it's under new owners. The housekeeping needs to spend time in rooms to vacuum the floors and clean the spider webs off the wall behind the doors and also the fridge!! The room that I stayed in has dust, spider webs behind the fridge and on the walls in the bathroom plus the carpet looked like it wasn't even vacuumed with the dead bugs behind the door and in between the beds!!!

Before arriving I called and reserved 2 rooms. I asked how many rooms they had available since we had a few more people in need as well. The nice lady on the phone said “don’t worry, we have plenty of rooms, come on in and your friends can get the same rate of $73 including tax.” The lady on the phone also stated that CLC cards were accepted. Once we arrived at the hotel a very rude man working the front desk immediately raised his voice to us before he knew what we needed. We explained that we had reserved 2 rooms but need a few more at the same rate. He said “that’s not our rate. It’s $70+tax” Before we could fully explain what the lady on the phone told us, he screamed at us stating that “there’s no lady that works here!” After a few loud exchanges the rest of our group was told to leave the property immediately. We kept our 2 rooms since they were already paid for on our credit card. Once in the room, it smelled like it had been cleaned with dirty mop water and had an overbearing musty smell. NEVER AGAIN will Story City Iowa Super 8 do any business with me or my company. FYI: the rude clerk stated that they do not...
