Gosh, where do I start....The only good thing about the off-site cottages was dealing with Erica. She was super nice.
We wanted a get-away with our two Border Collie's and unfortunately this cottage was more stress we didn't need. It was HORRIBLE! The wooden steps to get into MIDSHIP cottage were broken. The deck and cottage haven't been painted in years. All the paint was pealing off. The screen door is broken, didn't latch shut. When you walk in there is a huge stain by the front door. It's hard to open the windows as they all have wood rot. For a curtain on the kitchen window they used a piece of ratty old fabric and didn't even bother to cut the edges off and you had to tie them up with strips of the same old ratty fabric. Two burners on the stove didn't work. The lamp (if you can call it that) in the sitting area didn't have an on and off switch. I guess your supposed to plug and unplug it everytime you need light. BUT the worst thing is the lamp socket was hanging off of the base. The loveseat that was supposed to be a double recliner was broken. Only one side flipped up. When you lay in the bed, OMG ~ you roll into the middle. The last two nights out of our 4 day trip, we slept in the car along with our dogs. Don't use the outlet in the bathroom as whatever you plug in, the cord gets very hot. I don't even want to get started on the floors. Each room was at a different level. Not because it was supposed to be but because all the floors were sagging. I hate to even get started with the outside. The patio furniture was rusty ( I can excuse that because of the lake) and filty. The swing you see in the photo is broken and whoever stayed in the cottage before us threw their dog poop bags in the firepit. So needless to say we didn't use that either. But we did get a hearty laugh when we saw a cute plastic pitcher on the patio table filled with water and PLASTIC flowers in it and a totally dead hanging flower basket hanging from a hook on the roof. That should have been an indication before we even opened the cottage door.
We work very hard for our $ and both my husband and I needed a relaxing few days away from home. We went into Sister Bay and found the most beautiful little cottage that accepts pets and the rates are less expensive. We already made our reservation for next year. Roughing it in a tent would have been a step up. And don't let me forget the "For Sale" sign by the road. Now we know why it's there!
I wish we could dispute the credit card charges to get...
Read moreA gem!! We only stayed here because our initial memorial plans to Michigan fell through last minute and we had our dog with us (pet friendly was a must). We were LUCKY enough to snag the last suite here! The pictures do not do it justice, we felt like we were staying in the middle of nowhere and at the same time you have all the amenities of Sturgeon Bay being a larger town vs. staying up north, where the options are far more limited compared to the amount of people visiting. We would've never chosen to stay here due to the close proximity to the bridge/traffic and it being sturgeon Bay (we usually stay in more remote areas of door county) however, again, we were pleasantly surprised that even on a busy memorial weekend, the traffic was actually hard to hear and extremely quiet at night. You are off the beaten path from touristy SB a bit so the payoff is peace & quiet + a calm resort. Even though the resort was booked, we saw 3 people the entire time we were there! The staff is super friendly, helpful and leaves you to enjoy your vacation. We were in Suite 204 which is absolutely stunning as it sits on the west corner of the building, allowing you absolutely gorgeous nature views from everywhere in the room. The skylights allow for natural light, windows clean and able to open, the unit seemed remodeled as everything was/appeared new and clean. Honestly can't get over how clean it was! The kitchen was fully stocked for every day living. There was even fresh ice in the freezer, plenty of linens/toiletries and an absolutely gorgeous CLEAN Jacuzzi tub big enough for two people. On the perfect day, you can be sitting in the tub with the windows open hearing the birds chirping overlooking the bay. Having two patios was also a huge perk! There was plenty of space for our dog to use the restroom and explore as well as for us to lounge and even enjoy a campfire. Checking in and out was extremely easy, we can't recommend this place enough! We also explored a lot of door county and felt like Sturgeon Bay was a great landing spot as traffic wasn't too congested and there are so many dog friendly beaches and restaurants within 30 minutes or less that we had plenty to do. We are so grateful this fell into our lap after the disappointment of our initial plans falling through. We will definitely be back. Thank you...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem and I was reluctant to write my review because I want to keep this place a secret! We live in Milwaukee and love to go to Door County at least two times a year. We have stayed at several places and this is our favorite place for so many reasons! So many positives...where to start?! The price is affordable. They allow dogs! There are not alot of places that do up there so that is so important as our dog is our child! We have stayed in room 201 and 204 and both are very similar setups. I loved the decor and the fact that there is a full kitchen so we could cook meals. I love the balconies and THE VIEWS are spectacular! I am like the Princess and the Pea when it comes to pillows and bedding and it is so comfy! The jacuzzi tubs are soooo lovely. The additional bedroom and balcony are great although I love how romantic the place is that I haven't brought the kids yet but it would be perfect for families as well. I love the fireplace! I love the notebooks and reading what past guests had to say. The staff was great as well, recommending yummy restaurants (one that turned into my fav place to eat in Sturgeon Bay). They have fire pits and out side seating by the water and even provide the wood. I called up to the front desk to asked about the fires and when I went down, the hostess had left me newspapers, matches and sticks to roast marshmallows on! They have grills available! I cannot say enough good things about this place, it is...
