We stayed from 6/27 - 7/5/2014, for the first time. It is a fairly small campground, but it's obvious they are constantly doing upkeep and improvements, every day we were there I saw work being done.
They've got a Giant checkers board and Connect4 for the kids to play together on (nice easy way to make friends if you've got a shy kid). There's also a 9 hole golf course (for just 50 cents a game!) right next to the miniature goat pen (tall chain link fence so no worries about little kids, I think you can buy goat feed but I never checked). There's an outdoor pool (no lifeguard, adult must accompany kids), and a path to hike that goes around the nearby Mogadore Reservoir (fishing if you've got a license, and there's a small state park for fishing down the road, where you can rent a kayak or rowboat.) For being so close to a large population, it is reasonably affordable. There is wi-if but it's only inside or just outside of the social hall. (You ARE camping, so put the darn tech down!)
We reserved a tent site for the week, but it rained so much that after 4 nights I gave up "roughing it", and switched to the (thankfully available) small cabin. It's basically a large garden shed, which is clean and incredibly bug free! I don't know how that's possible, but considering how many mosquitoes were down by the tent sites (next to the state-owned woods), I was very thankful! It's got electric and plenty of outlets and includes a gas grill and utility sink outside with cold water. (It was quick and easy to heat water on the grill.) Two (full/queen?) beds (plastic covered, you provide your own bedding), a table inside with 2 chairs, and of course a fire ring and picnic table. Right across from the pool so that was a short walk, closer to the bathrooms (which were very clean) and nearly bug-free even outdoors! I don't know if they spray for bugs around that area, or if it was just because of the higher elevation and farther from the woods, but it was well worth the increase in price from the tent site, with 2 young kids! A regular seasonal camper said they noticed the decrease in bugs too when they moved their trailer from a site on lower ground.
As much as I love the Mohican area, it was just so nice to be close to home that I plan on visiting this campground again, hopefully multiple times every year! (If I use a tent there again, I'll definitely request a site at the higher end, though!) The staff I interacted with were nice and always reasonable, the prices in the (very small) store were fine, there's a dollar store not too far away if you need anything else, and a farm nearby if you want a bit of fresh local produce. There are a few events scheduled every summer, but if you're looking to be constantly entertained, take a cruiseship. In my opinion, this a nice, old-fashioned campground (with modern hygiene standards), where adults can relax and and kids can still be...
Read moreNot a happy camper ! I’m currently traveling around this great country of ours and have been doing so since January 2021. In March I made a one night reservation at Countryside CG after reading reviews on Good Sam. Most were favorable; we were just looking for a quiet, easy in and out, on out travel route East.
Today, (6/26), I contacted Countryside CG, to cancel my one night reservation on September 8th (which is over 2 months away). I was told “ no problem, but we will be charging the credit card used to make the online reservation $20. “ I think this is very unreasonable, as I have provided this CG over two months advance notice of my cancellation, not to mention that I’ve had to rearrange several other reservations made at the same time, and have not encountered any CG that has charged me for canceling. When I asked to speak with someone in authority, Tammy came on the line and identified herself as the owner. I explained my situation to her and was told that “That’s our policy, we’ve been holding this site for you since March, and that because I made the reservation online she had “costs” associated with that. I continued to explain that I had not experienced this in any other CG I’ve made reservations at, but Tammy would not hear it. Basically “ that’s the rule”.
So Tammy, I’m not a Happy Camper having to pay your business $ 20 and not receiving any benefit for it. I also told you I would leave negative feedback concerning your policy on cancellations. I don’t believe for a moment, that your business will be inconvenienced by my cancellation, and I’m willing to bet, some other camper will be using the spot that I had reserved at your CG, the spot that cost me $24 in cancellation fees. Your argument about online booking costs is also mute, as I was charged $4 online booking charge, so a $45 campsite cost me $49 to book online, cost me not you.
If you’re thinking of booking a campsite at Countryside CG, make sure that you are available to show up. No excuses apparently will be excepted by this management, and I thought CG were doing well. They must need my $20 very badly.
Edit: just checked my email; my $29 refund will take 5 to 10 business days to post to my account. More insult to injury! You’ve had my money since March for a September reservation, but I have to wait 2 weeks to get half my money back..Unbelievable!!! Enjoy that $20 bucks Countryside. Hope it’s worth this...
Read moreWe stayed two nights in August (Sat/Sun) as we were passing through, on a road trip. We wanted a full hook up, but they only had water/electric. The office people were not very warm / welcoming, and they seemed to want to get everyone out of the office really fast. We later saw that there were some activities at the campground on the nights we were there (we saw everyone going to the rec area), but no one at the office had told us about anything. It seems this campground is run with only the seasonal / permanent people in mind. The campground is built on a steep hill with facilities (rec room, bathrooms/showers, office, pool) and many sites at the top of the hill, with a few sites at the bottom of the hill.
Pros: The grounds are pretty and well kept up. The pool is clean and there are shady places to sit around the pool in addition to a small pavilion at the pool, which you can sit in to watch your children in complete shade. The bathrooms are clean and the showers are clean and very nice. Lots of things for kids and families to do. The laundry room is clean with everything you need. The dog park is large and shady. There are lots of TV channels with antenna. The WIFI is solid.
Con: If you are in a site in the lower part of the campground down the hill, you really don’t feel part of the campground at all. You have to walk up a steep hill to get anywhere or do anything (showers, bathrooms, pool, rec hall, store). The sites at the top of the hill are close to all activities (Sites 25-71 and Pull Through sites 1-8). We could have done without climbing a steep hill in the August heat to use the facilities. It also should be noted that some of the sites in the lower part of the campground have no sewer hookups.
This is a nice campground, but it wasn’t for us mostly because it was built on...
