So I booked cottage 5 about 3 weeks ago for this weekend. When I called to book the cottage I was asked about everyone coming to which I explained it was myself, my husband, and our 5 year old. During the conversation I asked if the river was within walking distance to which I was told yes only 1/4 of a mile. Today we arrived. We checked in, for lunch, then went to get ready for the river. We loaded up our cooler, grabbed our chairs and my daughters toys, and set off. We walked down to where the river was, only to find out everywhere we looked was private property and no trespassing. So we hiked back up hill to our cabin and I called the front desk. I asked where the river we could use was since everything we found in walking distance is private property. She informed me we would have to cross highway 19, a very busy 2 lane highway, then go to the end of the pavement and then make a right and walk down from there. I said wait what?! You want me to walk to the highway, about 1/4 mile, then cross the highway, then walk another 1/2- 3/4 of a mile carrying all this stuff and chasing a 5 year old?! If I had know that when you had it was walking distance to the river I would have never booked this. Also I was paying $150/night for the cabin when there are river front cabins for that price. So she said well it’s technically walk able. I said not with a child. She then informed me that people walk it everyday and no one complains. I said well I feel like you falsely advertised the walking distance. She then asked me what I wanted her to do. I told her I’d like a fill refund. So we packed our items back into my vehicle and drove to the office. She said she would give me a full refund. I asked if we could have the refund back in cash, I know this isn’t how they usually do things, but I needed the money back to pay for a different room I had found so as not to ruin my kids vacation completely. She informed me it was against the law to refund me cash and that it wasn’t her problem. Now at this point she had also my rude comments about my parenting and had a very poor attitude, so I asked her to show me the law that says you can’t refund in cash. She then told me that was not her job. So I rolled my eyes and said fine just process the refund. At this point a very nice gentleman was also sitting at the desk and he tried to explain to me they couldn’t do cash because we could dispute the charges and they wouldn’t get their money. I was politely telling him I understand what he is saying and I would gladly sign something stating I would not dispute the charges when she informed us both that that was enough talking. I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone, even my worst enemy. There are MANY more places to camp in the area and I would suggest you runnnn to those places. Also, for those wondering we did contact our cc company to see about the refund and they called the number to the campground to ensure they had processed the refund and from what I was told she wouldn’t tell them yes or no on the refund so my cc company would not be able to release my funds for 7-10 business days until my dispute was settled. Needless to say my child’s vacation was ruined.

Update to respond:

I never said I was upset because it was not a water front cabin. I was upset because when you told me you could walk to the river you never said I’d have to walk more than half a mile and cross a busy 2 lane highway with my child that I did inform you was coming. I gave the review to inform other people about your business not being walking distance...

Came to the area after some flooding to do some sightseeing before the seasonal rush and most state park camping was closed in the area as were some private riverside sites. I didn't want to give in and get a hotel room so I searched for places on my phone once I had cell service in town. Pulled in to Eminence Cottages and Camp and called the number on the door since the store was closed. The camp host was very friendly and she got me set up with a nice little private site. Really appreciated this place coming in clutch as a place to stay since the parks were closed and it turned out to be a very charming spot. It's set on the mountainside running downhill, mostly open with a fair amount of trees for shade. Great views, clean campground (in off-season!), hot showers, and the prices certainly don't skin you alive. Kudos to the team doing such a great job on maintenance and customer service, it's a small wonder why so many are return visitors here. For those who like to stay connected or are just skeptical of backcountry reception, I had a steady 2 bars of cell service at this location, plenty of signal to do most things on a smartphone. Really a great place to base camp for sightseeing like I was or to bring the family/friends outdoors in a safe environment. Big thanks to Eminence...

My husband and I recently enjoyed a week long stay in a full hook up site at Eminence Cottages & Camp. The owner, who also handles all the details of the check in process, was friendly & helpful. The campground was clean, sites were gravel, but mostly level, with plenty of beautiful mature trees for shade. Shower house & restrooms were clean and well maintained, as well. We enjoyed an afternoon at the public river access & rock beach less than a mile away. And found some beautiful roads for riding our motorcycles. Hwy 19, between Eminence and Salem, is much more enjoyable on a bike than pulling a big RV 😀 My only reason for giving 4 out of 5 stars for location was the steepness grade of the driveway and property in general. The fresh rock made it a bit challenging on a motorcycle, but maybe it will be better after it is driven on more. And I tried to take a walk, but it is either all uphill or all downhill, with very few level parts of the campground path. However, that’s also part of what makes it such a beautiful place! We very much enjoyed our stay & will look at Eminence Cottages & Camp again...

We had a wonderful stay in the glamping tent—it was the perfect mix of comfort and nature. The ambiance was peaceful and cozy, and everything was incredibly clean, from the tent itself to the bathrooms, which were some of the cleanest we’ve seen at a campground. The heated bed was a great touch, especially on the cooler nights. The owners were very nice and super accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed. The campground was quiet, which made it easy to relax, and we loved meeting the friendly campground cat who wandered by to say hello. We had no issues with cell phone service, which was a plus, and the location was close to downtown Eminence, so it was easy to pop into town for food or supplies. We’d definitely come back again!

This is a terrific place to book if you cannot find a place to camp in late October. The Staff was friendly and extremely helpful. They do have wifi but not in the cabins, just FYI but we had great signal on our phones so it was a non-issue. Very close to town which had restaurants, a grocery store, fuel...etc. River outfitters will even come and pick you up/drop you off if you'd like to float the Jack's Fork. Do bring your own coffee and cooking oil if you intend to use the kitchen. They have all the basics (coffee maker, pots and pans, utensils, plates, etc) but those were the only things I forgot to bring with our food. Highly recommended. Thank you for a terrific stay!
