Embarking on a winter solo campaign at Sugar Pine Point Campground proved to be an enchanting experience, one that I am eager to share. Nestled amidst the serene beauty of nature, this campground offered a perfect retreat for solitude and adventure. The journey to the campground was seamless, thanks to the well-maintained road, cleared of snow, ensuring a safe and smooth drive. This attention to accessibility, even in the heart of winter, immediately set a positive tone for the trip. Upon arrival, the facilities did not disappoint. The restroom was open and well-kept, a welcome amenity that added comfort to the rustic experience. It's these thoughtful provisions that make Sugar Pine Point Campground stand out, ensuring that even in the colder months, visitors can enjoy the beauty of the outdoors with convenience. The campground itself was a winter wonderland, offering peace and tranquility that can only be found in the natural world. Each day brought new sights and sounds, from the crisp crunch of snow underfoot to the silent, majestic beauty of the surrounding landscapes. The experience was a testament to the magic of winter camping, providing a unique opportunity to reconnect with nature and oneself. For those seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, Sugar Pine Point Campground in winter is a hidden gem. Its combination of accessibility, facilities, and natural beauty make it an ideal spot for solo adventurers looking to explore the wonders of the season. In summary, my winter solo campaign at Sugar Pine Point Campground was nothing short of spectacular. It's a place I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an adventure that blends challenge with serenity, comfort with the wild. Whether you're an experienced camper or a novice eager to embrace the cold, this campground promises an unforgettable experience.

I tent camped for three nights towards the middle to end of May of 2022. I heard there were supposed to be a lot of bears, but I did not see one at all, which I was actually bummed out about. My camp neighbor saw one earlier in the morning before I arrived for the first night. There's tons of wildlife! There's also a trail that goes all around the campgrounds and part of it leads straight out to the lake. Bathrooms are nice and well kept (just make sure to bring your own soap and towel), and there is someone patrolling the grounds every hour or so. Fire pits are very large and have a grill you can put on it if you want to smoke something, and they have charcoal grills if you prefer that. It's also not far from the nearest market and about 10 minutes from Tahoe City if you need anything more. I only gave it a 4 because the sites could stand to be more private, and the roads/parking spaces are a tad confusing if you've never been there before. Overall, it's a lovely campsite and I would definitely visit again.

We have stayed at Sugar Pine Point at four different sites. We enjoyed them all. We like the third loop (furthest from the road) best. The sites tend to be more separated than loop 2 and loop 1 is more group camping. The restrooms are what you would expect at a state campground and they were always clean and operating. The shower facility was also good. Bears are VERY active here, so use your bear box any time you are not preparing or consuming food. Keep tolieties and any fragrant items in the bear box as well. We saw multiple bears and they ripped through our neighbors dinning tent to get a dirty cooking tool left out by mistake. Bears have to consume a vast amount of calories daily and human food is a great source so bears are very resourceful at getting it. We learned our lesson a few years ago when we accidentally left a car door open and found one all the way in the back cargo area eating power bars. Funny to laugh now, but take them seriously.

The campground has nice paved roads, quite a few flush toilet facilities, many water supply spigots, and friendly helpful staff.

My campsite was quite large with room for several tents, fire pit and charcoal grill were provided. The number of campers per site is limited depending where in the campground your site is located.

My cell coverage was spotty, inspite of my service provider showing the area well covered on their map. Not the campground's fault, but be prepared.

I think there was only one shower facility. I had a short stay and did not visit the showers, and do not know if they were accessible. Some campsites are marked disabled, but the adjoining restrooms have no ADA facilities. The amphitheater also has no ADA parking or seating arrangement.

There are several trails from the campground, including a trail to the beach. Estimated about 1 mile. With my current ability level I did not attempt it.

There are maps of the campground available, but the ones I saw were not to scale. I found it difficult to estimate where I was and the relationship to other things without a scale. They were still far superior to no map at all in helping me locate my campsite.

They are serious about the bears. We did not have any enter the campground while we were there, but one was spotted on the highway near by. EVERYTHING with a food scent or fragrance must be locked up bear tight except when in use. They provide a "bear box" cupboard, and bear proof dumpsters. You can bring a certified bear proof cooler and lock it properly, or fit a cooler in the bear box, which is heavy lifting. Failure to follow these policies can result in fines of $1,000 and loss of use of the facility-- they are not joking!

I remember seeing the bears in other campgrounds 40 years ago where they were constant pests. I think this system is...
