Bed and Breakfast Done Right!
My wife and I stayed at Bent Tree Lodge on April 12-15, 2023 to celebrate our 40th anniversary which we had to reschedule twice due to an injury and an illness on two prior dates. So we are very grateful how the owners (Debi and Brent) worked with us to reschedule our trip.
The owners have really done a great job of leaving their careers to establish an excellent retreat for those who just want to get away, relax, and enjoy the excellent hiking in the North Georgia mountains with its abundant options.
We stayed in the Vineyard Room, which was actually a suite with a king-sized bed, sitting room, and large private porch, overlooking their adjacent (Cairn) winery. The main building is very quiet with rooms on the second floor, but entered through the front door, so no struggle with luggage.
Debi and Brent hosted a wonderful homemade breakfast each morning at 9 AM, plus provided beverages and snacks throughout the day (and night). And, its just a short walk down the hill to their winery. We hope to go back on one of their monthly weekends when they have live music.
If you have never experienced a true bed and breakfast, this is an excellent place to start. It is out in the country away from traffic noise, and merely 75 minutes north of downtown Atlanta.
Jasper and Tate are small towns nearby, each with an excellent restaurant (the Mulehouse and Home, respectively). The biggest attraction, though is Gibbs Gardens, 15 minutes away. Azaleas (red flowers in photos) are in bloom in April and May, and we were at the end of the March extravaganza of a million-plus daffodils. An amazing 3-4 hours to see 300+ acres of floral beauty and expert landscaping throughout the year. (see water feature in photos). Nice cafe on site.
Within 30 minutes, you have some of the greatest hiking in Georgia with States parks and more. We did Tobacco Pouch loop which was 5.7 miles and 1,500 feet of elevation change down to a waterfall and some amazing wildflowers (see wild iris in photos)
We highly recommend Bent Tree Lodge to those who want to get away for a few days of hiking, rest and/or quiet. Debi and Brent are wonderful lodge hosts. They truly are at the top of their game with their hospitality and their attention to the details of the...
Read moreThis is a magical getaway with culinary breakfast delights! I needed a solo getaway to start my year off right so I stayed at Bent Tree Lodge for the long weekend. I stayed in the Gibbs Garden suite inside the actual winery and it blew me away. The shower was huge with a pebble stone floor, the claw bathtub provided ample reading time and the king size bed and mattress lulled me into a deep slumber. In the morning I woke up to a beautiful scene of blue birds, Adirondack chairs, weeping willows and a fairytale bridge. I went up to the lodge each morning for some of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had and met amazing people. Debi gets creative, provides variety, loves to be challenged with dietary needs and always adds love to each of her recipes. You truly feel the hospitality and love in everything that Brent and Debi (the owners) do. Zoe the winery dog and Olive the winery cat are always gracious hosts welcoming me each morning to breakfast. I had choices of how to spend my days. I could hang out at the bustling boutique winery, playing games, listening to great live music, eating charcuterie trays while trying wines and beers or I can head out on an adventure. Shopping at Feather & Stone lifestyle boutique, Twist, getting ice cream at Polar Bear ice cream, taking a paint splatter class or woodworking class at Bad Donkey, checking out all the breweries, Hiking, distillery, escape room, exploring Ball Ground, sitting at the marble bar eating sandwiches at Bells Pharmacy, Amicalola Falls, Apple Orchards, Burt’s Pumpkin farm, golf, spa day at Toile & Bubble! There is so much to do and see and experience. Or maybe you’ll be just like me….sitting in the Adirondack chairs by the fire pit with a blanket over my lap and a glass of Rose reading a book in the magical environment of...
