My daughter and son in law chose The Blake at Taos Ski Valley to hold their wedding on 6/24/2023.
I would like to start with saying the reception staff and valet's are the best I have every had the pleasure to work with. They were attentive and were there to assist with the multiple requests, room changes from first night rooms to bridal party night rooms to wedding night rooms, retrieving items out of valet multiple times a day and assisting through the unexpected issues with construction, power outages and loss of cell/texting abilities. I would like to give a special shout out to Rynn, Tristan and Michael for all your help!
Sara and Lauren, Andrew, Michael and Christian, although there were some hiccups along the way, I would like to say thank you for doing everything you could to help the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner/ cocktail hour and the wedding end up being wonderful!
With that being said, I would like to take this time to encourage anyone planning to have a special event here to ask up front how the infrastructure is at the time you are hoping to book. The area, due to construction at the Ski Valley and Taos resulted in power outages, loss of cell phone/text (communication) abilities and at one time loss of water for a short period. If you are not in need of connecting with others as we were for the wedding, then these were just minimal and temporary inconveniences and out of the control of the Blake, which, I will say they handled with the utmost professionalism.
However, we were told at the time of booking this venue that there would be "some construction on chairlift 4" which turned out to be much more extensive then was verbalized. I will give credit to Christian and his team for working so hard to try to rectify some of the issues that could have made this not such a pleasant event and assuring it did turn out beautiful, however the stress and frustration leading up to the day could have been avoided if the communication with the party was presented as soon as it was evident instead of the week of the wedding. I also feel that if you know there is this much of a change in the site due to what is understandable needed construction for maintenance and upgrades, that you consider offering altered rates according to the altered venue site.
I would still recommend this venue as it is second to none in the beauty, the Blake was comfortable and again, the staff was amazing!
Thank you for helping make the Moorhead/Pfeiffer wedding a beautiful occasion.
Thank you on behalf of the Moorhead/Pfeiffer...
Read moreWe stayed at the Blake over New Year's in 2018 and had the absolute best time. That trip was just my family of five. We had so much fun and such a great experience that we wanted to recreate it with some of our favorite friends. We rebooked for 2019 New Year's (six months in advance) and both families gave it to the kids from Santa as their big present. When I booked, I booked two rooms and requested to be on the 1st floor and have adjoining rooms. With a five-night minimum we were banking on the fact that the kids could be in one room (adjoining) and the adults could have some wind down time in the other room after long ski days. I called the ski valley no less than three times and was reassured that our request would be granted. Once we arrived at the Blake, neither request was granted. We were told that the room we wanted had to go to a guest with a dog and that adjoining rooms were all given away and that we should have emailed our request instead of calling. Keep in mind this was over a $7,000 reservation. We were then told we had to stay in certain rooms for one night, then pack up and move to another room. With all the stuff that comes with skiing for a family of five that was nothing short of a headache when we were supposed to be on vacation. Joshua at the front desk management, promised so many things and fell beyond short and delivered each piece of disappointing news with a very rude attitude. We were promised certain compensation for staying in the rooms with a handshake. After that handshake all of the promises were never delivered. Both us and our kids were extremely disappointed by the level of customer service, that over promises and lack of delivery. After all of this we had a child experiencing altitude sickness and requested a pitcher of water. It was delivered without any cups. When we called back to request cups, they sent a housekeeper with coffee mugs that she pulled out of a dirty laundry bag! I have sent many people to the Blake with the intent of experiencing the same vacation we did back in 2018, but I can assure you I will never recommend this place again. For that price go...
Read moreStaff is terrific and super friendly. They want to be helpful. I'd give this place a 5 star if not for 192.
Room: what a view! Mountains! Beautiful room and comfy beds. Not sure why they dont have Netflix capability, but you won't want to spend time in the room anyway. Oh, important note... the pool and hot tub are outside.
Staff: friendly and helpful. They have a texting system for questions and room service. The texting system is revolutionary and well done. I am not a fan of valet parking and that is the only option. So, if you like valet, you'll love it, if you dont, you'll survive.
Location: perfectly located. That said... it's in the Valley. The Valley is at least an hour from any thing resembling normal. This is great! But... arrive prepared. If you get a suite, which I highly recommend, bring food to cook and drink. The fridge is small, oh, except the gigantic fridge called Nature that you could use on the deck. You will want your own food, unless you are a gazillionaire. Many great restaurants and all are pricey, some more than others. So, bring your Black card or your own food.
The 192: ok, I give this restaurant 1 star. The food is "meh". The breakfast buffet is $15 a person and, in off season, is your only choice. The breakfast is not worth $15. The dinners are super expensive. We are at the Bavarian and got 3x the portions for half the price that is an order of magnitude more tasty than 192. So, the food is just OK and not at all worth the money. The breakfast quality is worse than a Radisson which, if you stayed at a Radisson, would be FREE. So, 192 breakfast should be FREE. The drink in 192... gigantic selection and normally priced for a captive audience.
In summary. I like the people. I love the location. I do not like 192. Come prepared!...
