I wished that the rating choice was a zero as I would have chosen that figure.
Took the elevator to our floor. Door opened and the entire east wing stench almost made me vomit. All of the carpets in this wing were stained. To me had never been shampooed. Each step was sticky. The room could have been " cleaned and deodorized more." Made 8pm reservations for the restaurant and arrived at 7:30pm. Not busy at all, we sat at the bar with the rudest bar-made on earth. There were 6 other people at the bar, 6. and we waited 15 minutes before a draft beer was poured and a water. We waited for the hostess to seat us as there were many open tables and noticed so waiters/waitresses standing around mingling with each other... Finally at 8:30pm I walked over to the hostess and asked when our table would be ready. She asked me what name it was under. I told her, she said "that's funny I don't see a reservation under that name. (Now mind you an hour previous when we arrived in the restaurant she verified our reservation..) At five minutes to 9 (almost an hour and a half later) our table was ready. I can bet you that there wasn't a dozen people sitting at tables total. Extremely disappointed to the point I have toyed with the idea of telling my friends and family on my social media accounts just what I experienced etc etc etc.. That place should be shut down without question. Totally unsanitary, filth, smell, rudeness, disrespect to the point that when we settled up with our bar tab I left a shiny new penny for the rude **h/bar-made. Then I said to myself, that is way to much tip for her and took it back and put it in my pocket !! The waitress was better and was apologetic for the entire establishment. Not her fault by any means its just a paycheck for her however, was empathetic.
In closing, two days after our stay at this Tailwater, my discover card was used many times and according to the Discover Fraud Department all stemmed from my identity from the Hilton Tapestry Collection at the Tailwater in Altmar New York. I am sure glad that they contacted me because of frequent uses from many resources in one 24 hour period. So, the fraud department is reversing all of the unauthorized charges without question. Now would you like to hear just how I feel about Hilton and this slime hole you call Tailwater Lodge or should I continue with my initial way of expression on...
Read moreMy wife and I were celebrating our 31st anniversary and since we have celebrated many before this, wanted try someplace different. We are very happy that we chose the Tailwater Lodge. The short drive from Syracuse was picturesque. We were greeted by a friendly Hostess and even though we didn't have reservations, were seated immediately. Our waitress, Jenny, was friendly and attentive. The soup of the day was a delicious turkey soup with a slight kick to it. We then ordered stuffed crab cakes that were very good. We both ordered the Salmon entree that cam with a house salad that all of the salad dressing were home made. The Salmon was cooked to perfection and was served with brown rice and sting beans that were perfectly Al dente. Even though we didn't think we could eat another bite, the waitress teased us with the dessert, and gave us a few minutes to decide. One of the desserts being home made ice cream that was just made that day. So even though we were full, we indulged in the home made ice cream that was topped with Toasted Coconut and fresh strawberries, very good. When the bill came the waitress mentioned that the dessert was on them in honor of our anniversary! Nice Touch. I haven't even mentioned that there is a tasting room with 24 taps, that was unfortunately not open. Two glasses of wine, one beer flight (4 samples in 6 oz. glasses), appetizer, dinner and dessert (that was free), plus tip $132.00. Both of us agreed it was a good choice for our anniversary and will...
Read moreThis is a unique property that used to be a school. The decor is rustic but comfortable with modern amenities in the rooms and very clean throughout. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. ||The hotel strives to balance catering to the hunters and fishermen and the non-outdoor sporting people, as well. There are lots of peaceful seating areas around the hotel, a fitness center, a game room, pool/hot tub and spa. The pool and hot tub were beautiful but the pool was very, very cold especially for an indoor pool.||There are two bars and the restaurant has a robust dinner menu but the breakfast offerings were limited. ||One traveler tip, and this is no fault of the hotel at all, avoid an adults only/couples trip on holiday weekends when the kids don’t have school. As is common at other hotels, families from the area book rooms just so they can deposit their kids at the pool all day, sitting nearby sipping beer and wine with the other parents. The pool and hot tub were overrun with kids and practically unusable the entire time the facilities were open. At one point we counted 22 kids and adults crammed into the hot tub at once.||The pool area closes at 9 pm. Having an adults only time from 9 pm to 11 pm would be a nice addition.||We would definitely like to try the property again during a time when it is not...
