I will start with a disclaimer, since my review is based on an experience as a camper - at age 7 - in 1953. I am 76, Not suffering from Alzheimer's, with a Very good memory of a most unpleasant 'learning' experience there. My Jewish parents, who were divorced when I was 2, had opposite opinions of this camp. My father did not wish for me to attend, saying it was a "Communist" camp. My mother sent me anyway. My mother had minimal financial support from my father. She scraped by as a secretary for a federal agency. A week or two into the camp season, she sent me a 'care package' full of goodies. Given her meager income, this represented a fairly sizable expenditure for her. Immediately after it arrived, and was opened, one of the two females who were in charge of my bunk CONFISCATED this package, saying 'we share everything here.' I recall crying, being very surprised and upset. The counselors who took this action had NO idea of my mother's financial status - and clearly did not care. I have no way of knowing if the present 'philosophy' of this camp has changed, but this experience taught me - WELL -...
Read moreI wanted to offer an updated review as I don’t want people missing out due to outdated reviews! I have been an international staff member for 7 summers here so I’ve seen the changes year on year!
Camp Kinder Ring has been under new management for some time now and the updates keep rolling in, the front of camp is completely unrecognisable with brand new pickleball courts, tennis courts and multiple soccer fields, a new high/low ropes course (with a zip line!!) and bunking being updated every year!
The lake is, of course, beautiful with the updated pool nearby, all my water sport based needs are covered! But apart from all the facilities (canteen snacks and cinema especially!) the thing that keeps me coming back and our campers living 10 for 2 …is the culture here. There’s something different about the camp traditions and Kinder Ring spirit that you can’t escape! I’ve watched campers make friends for life and fall in love with KR and come back year on year until they become staff members to pass their stories and love for camp onwards. It’s a beautiful place I can’t wait for...
Read moreContractors Beware! These guys are horrible with paying their bills. You would think charging $7000 per camp kid they would be more upscale especially based out of a midtown Manhattan organization.
General Manager not organized and always scrambling to cover issues. Doesn't respond to emails, or invoices for that matter. If you want them as a client that calls you and expects immediate service but when it comes to getting a check takes weeks to months. Then you will love working here. Still using copper wiring throughout the camp. They order the cheapest cable packages and internet speeds so hope you love I love Lucy and Dialup speeds!
I would never send my kids here. Honestly the computers the campers have access to are on XP still and without virus protection despite warnings and professional advice. They are unsecure, so you can only imagine what pops up on the screen.
Try a boys and girls club or YMCA/YWCA. Hell even an extended stay hotel is better priced! I have those as clients and they are on top...
