It is very difficult for me to write this review of Siskiwit Bay Lodge. I truly don’t want to upset the owners, as the love and dedication they’ve poured into making this place a slice of paradise are felt from the very first moment you arrive. In fact, I couldn’t imagine my trip to the Apostle Islands without staying specifically at this lodge. Fortunately, during the dates of my visit, Room #1 was available—and I couldn’t wait to get there. At first glance, the lodge exceeds every expectation. To see the details of the stunning landscape, the elegant exterior, and the cozy interior in person is an aesthetic delight. I am just one more impressed guest among many, as reflected in the glowing reviews written over the years in the guest books. However, there are some weaknesses to this place that I believe future guests should be aware of before making a reservation. First, if food is being prepared in the owners’ left wing of the lodge, the smell tends to travel through the entire right wing—seeping through cracks and into guest rooms. It’s possible you’ll fall asleep with those kitchen aromas lingering in the air. Second, the lodge has only four rooms, with the premium "Siskiwit Suite" located on the upper floor above the other three. That suite includes a Jacuzzi tub. Imagine our shock at 1:49 AM when the guests above us decided to enjoy a midnight spa session. The sound of the water running is similar to the roar of a sports car engine. Add to that the commotion from above—every step, every movement was clearly audible. To make matters worse, the guests upstairs also indulged in marijuana. Thanks to those same cracks and gaps, the smell quickly became obvious in our room below. So even if you follow every one of the owners’ very strict house rules, there’s no guarantee that other guests will do the same—or that your stay will be as peaceful and comfortable as you had hoped. Frankly, I find the concept of a Jacuzzi tub in the upper-level room deeply flawed from an engineering standpoint. Guests in the rooms below are inevitably affected by the use of it, both in terms of noise and vibrations. Because of this, I will not return to this lodge. You’re welcome to consider me picky or spoiled—but restful time after activities on the Apostle Islands and a peaceful night’s sleep is...
