Festge Park is a hidden gem in Dane County that feels like stepping into a quiet Northwoods escape, yet it’s just minutes from Black Earth. What I love about the park is beautifully maintained and offers a mix of peaceful woods, scenic overlooks, and family-friendly spaces for everyone. The highlight for me is the panoramic view from the top of the bluff, where you can see rolling hills and farmland stretching for miles—it’s absolutely breathtaking in fall when the colors light up the landscape. 🌾🍂 The hiking trails are nicely marked, winding through hardwoods and offering just enough challenge to be fun without being overwhelming. There are great picnic areas, playgrounds, and shelters, making it a great spot for families, group outings, or a quiet afternoon. It’s also a peaceful place for birdwatching and photography with all of the prairie flowers in the Park. What makes Festge Park special is the feeling of calm it brings—you can truly disconnect and enjoy the beauty of Wisconsin’s Driftless...
Read moreI’m giving one start and is because is safety related. Don’t get me wrong, the place is absolutely gorgeous and the view is spectacular. Unfortunately I had a bad experience while leaving the place. I parked my car I. The parking lot of the left right in front a a downhill start. I wish the parking lot had a barrier to stop cars in case breaks fails, or in my case gravity played against me and my break got locked up at moment I tried to stop. The only thing that stopped me to have a major accident and going all the way downhill was a tree that basically saved my life and friend lives. I think a solution should be putting raised pavement marker used in most of parking lots or the raised metallic markers also. The ground was so muddy and covered on leaves that was very difficult trying to get off of that situation. Very scary and this made my experience traumatic. Please avoid those parking lots. I have a baby and this was absolutely scary! I have to spend money in fixing my car...
Read moreThe paved walkway to the first overlook is really nice, otherwise the rest is not maintained well and has been overrun by poison ivy. (both on the ground and vining up trees) As someone whose husband is highly allergic to poison ivy, I was unable to walk more than 100 yds on any trail before I had to turn around because they were so narrow and filled with poison ivy. I was expecting a great morning with a few miles hiked and in reality I got 3/4 of a mile in and some nice pics from...
