What was once a very nice campsite has now become atrocious. I usually don’t blast a place of business, but this experience was well beyond unacceptable. Last weekend, my family stayed here, and from the moment we arrived, the owners were some of the rudest people I have ever encountered. We had a 10th birthday party planned after floating the river. Before we even started, several friends and family members came to my parents’ campsite to park. We were unaware of the “maximum two cars per campsite” rule. When told, we respectfully said we would move the extra cars to the top as soon as we finished packing them up. There were 16 of us, so gathering belongings took a bit of time. The owner repeatedly demanded we move immediately “in case there’s a medical emergency,” even after we said we were leaving right away. His tone and behavior were aggressive and unnecessary.
Once we parked up top, we found out every person (not vehicle) had to pay $7 for the day — including children who are supposed to be free if under five. The staff in the store were also rude during this process.
We floated the river for five hours and came back ready to celebrate the birthday. The owners were well aware we’d be doing so. However, when we pulled in, they stopped every car except my parents’ and forced the rest to park at the store and pay again if they hadn’t earlier.
A friend from out of state, here for the party, went inside to pay and casually mentioned our experience hadn’t been pleasant. The woman at the counter revealed her husband was the owner, interrogated my friend about why she was there, and then told her she needed a parking pass. When my friend said she knew, the woman slammed her hand on the table and told her to leave the property.
My friend asked if she was really being kicked out, and if so, could she at least get her car. They refused to let her retrieve it herself — someone from our campsite had to drive it up.
From that point, the owners watched everything we did like hawks. We were respectful and not causing issues, yet they demanded everyone leave. They assumed — without any reason — that we had been drinking all day and were belligerent. We had not. They ruined a child’s birthday party and showed zero care or compassion.
Multiple other campers came to us saying they had witnessed the entire situation, agreed the owners were out of line, and said they would never return either. Apparently, another group was also kicked out just three weeks prior for similar reasons.
As we packed to leave, the owners called the police — yes, on a 10-year-old’s birthday party. The officers themselves seemed baffled that they were even called and said they had more important things to handle. One officer kindly let my daughter sit in the patrol car to help cheer her up, which was the only silver lining to the day.
Bottom line: These owners are rude, unprofessional, and have no business running a campground. They treated paying guests with hostility, ruined a child’s birthday, and created unnecessary drama. We will never be back, and based on what we saw and heard, many others...
Read moreMy wife, our 3-year old son and myself had the pleasure of spending 10 beautiful weeks at West Canada Creek Campground.
From our first interaction to the time we left and every moment in between the owners of the campground were welcoming, kind, friendly and just overwhelming pleasant.
Under new ownership as of Summer 2022. The new owners, Imrana and Jason, made us feel welcomed from the moment we checked in. Whether it be making recommendations for food, sightseeing or things to do in the area. Jason even went as far as stopping by our site to make sure everything was up to our satisfaction.
The property is clean and well manicured. The camp store is well stocked. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well kept. The laundry room is clean and machines are new.
The West Canada Creek wraps around the entire property and provides such a tranquil backdrop. The sites are surrounded by lush oaks and pines. Makes it feel as though you are truly immersed in nature. Most of the sites are fairly level, either gravel or grass.
The campground also has a tubing business on property with an upstream shuttle as well as an ice cream stand! There is a playground with slides and swings as well as a swimming pool. There is a beach volleyball court, half court basketball and horseshoe pits.
We stayed on three different sites (2 partial hookups, 1 full hookup). Each site was level and easily accessible.
Throughout our 10 weeks there, we encountered dozens and dozens of guests who have been returning to this campground year after year.
Their themed weekends and accompanying activities throughout the season are wonderful. We had the pleasure of staying for Labor Day weekend in which they had a kids carnival set up among many other things. Their Halloween weekend is truly a must see, with wagon rides and trick-or-treating! This weekend like many others fill up nearly a year in advance. Return guests reserve their spot the following year before they even check out.
There are a number of seasonal sites with repeat guests who return year after year. Everyone we met was friendly and hospitable. The seasonal guest sites are well kept and clean and gives the campground a safe and serene atmosphere.
The guests at the seasonal sites are invested in this campground, volunteering for the themed weekends. A vast majority of them go all out for Halloween weekend, decorating their sites and RV’s.
Having had the opportunity to be on property for an extended time, I personally witnessed the dedication and love the owners are pouring into this campground daily. They continue to make improvements and updates that not only made our time here more enjoyable, but will certainly guarantee current and future guests will be returning year after year.
We had a tremendous time here and would highly recommend visiting. We will certainly be returning. We are so happy to have been apart of the West Canada Creek...
Read moreWest Canada Creek has some good reviews, but unfortunately, the visit my wife and I had was not that great. We did not stay at the campground alot during the 3 days we stayed here, but while we were there, the campground staff was driving all around our area with tractors doing work. It sounded like a construction site. We go camping to relax and have some down-time....so when they broke out a DJ that blasted wedding-style DJ music one night from about 8-10pm, it really ruined our evening. The garage-type structure that they were playing the music from was about 30 yards from our site....so it was pretty hard to ignore. I'm sure some people enjoy this type of entertainment....however, I am not a fan of loud late-night music. One thing to note is....if you have family/friends with disabilities, not all bathrooms are handicap accessible. The bathrooms next to where the DJ was playing has no ramps and the doorways are narrow, so I'm not sure if a wheelchair would even fit thru if you could get up the step. Lastly....my wife and I was driving thru the campground to go somewhere one day. We were about to drive by a campground employee who was walking. She was an older lady with glasses, and she had a poncho on due to the rain. Just as we were about to pass by her, she turned towards my truck and screamed "it's 5 miles per hour"! I stopped and rolled down my window and said "I am going exactly 5". She yelled into my window "it looks like an awful fast 5"! I don't know how she could even see how fast I was going, because she had her hood up and she was walking in the same direction I was driving, and just as my bumper went by her she turned and screamed. In 15 years of camping, I have never been yelled at. Not for one single thing. I am not the type of person who lets my kids run all over without supervision....nor do I get drunk late at night and blast my camper stereo so loudly that it's heard 5 sites away. Due to my completely honest experience as I have explained here, I give the campsite 1 star. Best of...
