I booked the cottage for my birthday weekend with my sister, a friend, and my two dogs so they could enjoy some time away from the city to run around. Let me start by saying this place is truly magical. Chris was beyond accommodating and helpful, and makes great cocktails, too! The cottage was absolutely perfect!
One star off only because I really wish there were stricter rules in place regarding dogs. Shortly after we checked in, another couple arrived and completely took over the fenced pool area with their two off-leash dogs. Unfortunately, one of their dogs was not friendly. When I tried to bring my dogs out to enjoy the space, theirs became aggressive and essentially bullied mine out. I had to urgently ask the owner to grab his dogs so I could safely get mine out of the way.
For context, I also have a reactive dog — but I was mindful of that and only let her out with my other dog when the space was empty. If other dogs came out, I immediately brought her back inside to avoid any issues. It was frustrating that the other owners weren’t equally considerate, and it made it difficult to enjoy the area as intended.
Because of this, I was only able to enjoy the fenced-in pool area, which is meant to be a dog-friendly space, for half a day. Once that couple arrived, the area was unusable for us. It even got to the point where I had to politely ask them if I could have a little time in the yard without their dogs present, just so mine could have a chance to be off leash.
I understand the purpose of the fenced area, but all guests pay good money to stay here and should be able to enjoy it equally, not worry that other dogs may be aggressive. Owners should certainly take responsibility, but when they don’t, the resort needs clearer parameters or enforcement in place for situations when multiple guests have dogs.
This issue put a damper on my trip, since my main reason for booking was to give my dogs space to be safely off leash outdoors while I relaxed by the pool, not to be...
Read moreWe went for a wedding in the area. There were limited options nearby, so we decided to splurge based on Rest Co's very attractive but misleading website. This was one of the most expensive two nights we have spent at a hotel in recent memory and a total waste of money = price gouging. Other guests who attended the wedding and made the same unfortunate mistake felt the same. ||This place is one of those "vintage" motel complexes where they did a fashionable but cheap renovation that photographs well. However, the furnishings are dysfunctional and uncomfortable, and wear and tear has begun. Examples: The only place to put clothes was a cheap metal hanging rack mounted on the wall, and the only seating was a hammock hung from large metal screws in the plaster wall/ceiling in a corner. After seeing that the toilet paper holder was hanging out of the wall in the bathroom, we weren't about to risk sitting there. The room also featured a half dead plant, and cheap store brand coffee that hadn't been restocked so we ran out after the first morning. And my hairdryer blew the fuse in the bathroom. ||It is not clear whether this place thinks of itself as an Air B&B or a hotel. At the price we paid and because we had a room in the main building (versus a guest house with a kitchen), we assumed we were staying in a hotel. However, the desk was usually not staffed. And, while there was a cute bar and restaurant area, the staff person on duty either seemed uncomfortable or annoyed by our presence. Also they didn't start breakfast or even have coffee out until 9 AM, which was useless to us. That whole common space mostly just sat empty from what we could tell. ||Also of note: The lobby stairwell had an unstable banister that probably would have collapsed if someone lost their balance and put their full weight on it. ||In sum, if there any other options when you book,...
Read moreGrounds are cool and it provides a different boutique vibe. Fire in back with little smores kits is a nice touch. We really liked this and used it. The rooms are old style. Almost like a farmhouse from the 1800s. Shower and bathroom are great. The tub is behind the bed which is odd but odd doesn’t bother me. It’s a pretty cool design. Someone had an imagination and it works. They have a record player with records for you to play. And not crap ones. Good ones. Sinatra! The design is purposeful and genuinely cool. This doesn’t look like a Marriott and that’s a compliment. It’s unique and funky. |For $373, I can hear almost every single word the room next to me says, what their TV is playing and right now I’m listening to them “enjoying their night”. It’s astonishing walls can be this thin. It’s as if you’d have to take ordinary walls and hire a contractor to shave them down. I know this place was probably renovated, they’re probably limited to what they can do and they surely tried but it just has to be better. If you stayed here with friends and it didn’t matter and it was all the same group, it might work great. |I have rarely been exposed to sound like this and it hurts everything good about the room. If they even turn on the tv at a decent level your night is jeopardized. |I hate giving crap reviews (check my other reviews) but this is going to hurt my ability to sleep until they stop talking, turn off the TV. Had to run the AC the entire night to get any sleep.|It’s unfortunate because this little place has great potential. It’s coolly designed. Thoughtful and different. The breakfast was some bagels, coffee and some fruit. It was fine. Bagels not half bad. |If this was $150-170/night it’s understandable. $373? It’s unfortunate as the entire place and vibe is different and cool. If you can sleep through noise this may be a non...
