GO.HERE.NOW.
Where to even begin?! We randomly stumbled upon this restaurant by chance as we were staying in the area. Coming up from NYC, where restaurants are plentiful, we didn’t have high expectations. Man we were WRONG. This place is a WIN!!
Let’s start with the ambience: So cute and very cozy from the second you walk in. Plenty of tables, but not too many where it feels overly crowded. Fireplace was in full use and there was even a bonfire in the backyard. Snow was falling outside in the quaint and quiet village of Essex, yet they still had plenty of business which was primarily made up of locals - so you know it’s good!
Next, the food = DELICIOUS! The French onion soup was incredible (the best I’ve had in years), as was the Duck Dumplings, Lobster Pasta, Fish n Chips, and the Salmon. BIG kudos to the Chef!!!!!!!! In terms of drinks, the whiskey sour was a winner, as was the craft beer selection.
Most importantly, there is one thing that brought us back to this restaurant for the second night in a row - the FANTASTIC SERVICE! Tom and Rachelle were INCREDIBLY personable and made us feel right at home. We eat out a lot and rarely find the service that they provided us!! From making the reservations, greeting you at the door, taking the orders, serving the food, AND making the cocktails, they do it all with a big smile on their face. They even went above and beyond and recommended attractions in the area. I truly felt like they treated us like family / friends - so much so we felt sad saying Goodbye.
Rachelle, Tom, and the chef certainly make this place special. We will be back, and not only for the food, but to stay at the Inn itself.
Look no further. Stop in and say hello. They will certainly welcome you...

Read moreWe visited Essex Inn on spur of the moment trip. Tommy, the manager, was entirely accommodating of our needs. Being Covid, we told him we planned to bring in food and he made sure we had full plates, cutlery and wine glasses and bottle opener in our room, and room with microwave access. This kind of personal service keeps us coming back; we will be back! The fully updated rooms (I peeked in a few with open doors) are luxurious and unique to the Adirondack design style. ||||Essex as a community is a gem, with dozens of historic buildings, as it would have appeared several hundred years ago. We walked up and down blocks to see the structures and various architectural elements, all explained in a quirky local book that Tommy gave us for exploring. Essex is a veritable Living History Museum. Make time for it on the NY Champlain Coast.||||For BnB, Tommy picked up the tab for a full restaurant breakfast at the local homemade eatery the Pink Pig. Couldn't have been better (take out back in our Essex Inn room).||||There is a tavern on premises, open week-ends in winter. Looks like it is a fun place, but we were mid-week. I'm sure it has great food and pairings as Tommy has a wine degree from...
