Over the past 20 years, I’ve been coming to Trout House. I don’t come here every year but when we do, it’s always in the fall. Usually October for my birthday. For us, and our dollar, this is the BEST place to stay ok Lake George. Keep in mind, it’s not in Lake George Village so there’s a bit of s drive to get into LGV (about 25 miles). |The Pros: all the cabins have a great view of the lake. Over the years I’ve stayed in two different cabins. General Borgeouyne and Ethan Allen Log. Ethan Allen Log (not the Ethan Allen patio) is my favorite, feels like home to me. |The staff are all really nice, helpful people. They know what they’re doing around here that’s for sure. They take care of your needs as a guest here, but they also leave you alone and don’t bother you! |The views. You’ll never get bored of the amazing views and because the resort property is so large, you’ll get all kinds of amazing views and pictures |It’s open year round. I love the off season because it’s not crowded, it’s very quiet and you’ll appreciate the privacy. But if you’re a summer person, there’s lots of activities right on the property that’s fun for families or couples or a bunch of friends getting together. |They base prices on seasons which is fair! Why would I pay a higher summer price in the dead of winter? |Wood burning fireplaces. Some cabins have gas but I prefer a nice crackling wood burning fireplace. They set it all up for your first night, after that it’s up to the guest to build your fire. Which takes literally two minutes because they provide everything! Wood, kindling, matches, newspaper etc. |It’s just simply beautiful ||The cons:|Not too many negative things to say, honestly. I’ve never had any issues with service, price, billing, reservations etc. everything always goes smoothly. |The cell service can be spotty. But come here to get away from the cell phones and internet! It’s not too much of an issue. Non connnection only happens sometimes. ||Tips: I would come ready and packed with groceries and the things from home that keep you comfortable. You cannot just “run to the store” around here. The stores are not close by and can have weird hours in the off season. So make sure you bring the hygiene products you need, food for cooking (if you stay longer than two days, you’ll definitely be doing some of your own cooking) bring all your snacks, bring food that you love but that’s easy to prepare. They have a full stocked kitchen so you don’t need pots pans dish cleaner etc. bring your alcohol with you if you plan to have drinks etc. just do a good supermarket shop before coming so you’re prepared. Again, shopping for that stuff up here is not easy and would definitely be an interruption in your fun. ||Overall: it’s fun, beautiful and most importantly to me, relaxing. I don’t come here to do much. We hang out, go into town (bolting landing and lake George village) do some souvenir shopping, go out to eat etc. but there’s lots more to do if you’re looking for fun lake activities. We mainly come for relaxation, getting out of the suburbs, not do too much driving etc. kids will love it here but bring their stuff from home that keep them occupied during the downtime or you’ll have a bored kid at night and that’s no fun for parents. So make sure they have their things with them to keep them entertained. |It’s a great place, five stars as usual. No complaints. We...
Read moreAWESOME resort on north end of Lake George with caring, friendly owners. We were fortunate enough to find this resort several years ago. The resort sits towards the northern end of Lake George in Hague, NY. There are fully furnished cabins and inn-style rooms for weekly rental during the summer months. We have stayed in two of the cabins the past four years, the Eagles Nest and the Iroquois—both come with fully equipped kitchens, washer/dryer, your own large Webber grill, AC, and linens/towels. You can see a more detailed description of all cabins and rooms on the resort website. The units and grounds are exceptionally well maintained, and there is daily maid service. Both the Eagles Nest and Iroquois cabins offer spectacular views of the lake making morning coffee and evening drinks/meals on the covered deck quite memorable. Unlike many hotels or other tourist areas on the lake, we find the Trout House Village very family friendly. There is a private beach, kayaks/paddle boards, ping pong table, shuffleboard, putting green, small basketball court, and a front yard area large enough to play catch or other lawn games. What really separates this resort from others on the lake is the personal touch that comes from the owners, Scott and Alice, who truly care about you having a great experience at their resort. The small things matter to them. While I have numerous examples, the most recent is they updated the Iroquois cabin and put a Keurig in it (in addition to the regular ground coffee maker). I mentioned to Scott that I didn’t bring any k-cups, and he immediately got me enough for a couple of days. A small thing, but it matters. The resort is not for those who like the hustle and bustle of places offering lots of dining and shopping opportunities (if you want this, stay 30 miles south in Lake George Village on the busy southern-most end of Lake George). More so, Trout House Village is for families who like a full day relaxing at the beach, boating/kayaking, swimming, fishing, grilling their dinners, and enjoying family time. For those who do boat, you can bring your own as the resort has a limited number of docks (inspections are required before you can get your boat in the lake); or you can rent (like we do) a boat for the week or a day at Dockside Landing Marina which sits next door to the resort. The owner, Scott, is one of the most friendly and helpful persons from whom I have ever rented a boat (or anything else). Last, this is a popular place, and it may be hard to find a cabin or room during the summer. Most families come back year-after-year, renting the same cabin during the same week. This is possible because at the end of a stay, the owners offer you the opportunity to reserve your cabin/room for the same week the following year, requiring a relatively small, nonrefundable deposit. We have met families who have come back during the same week for decades. We just finished our 4th year and have already made our reservation for next year—The Trout House Village Resort is our home-away-from-home, but better because it overlooks one of the very best lakes in the beautiful and refreshing...
Read moreThis place is comfortable and offers a lot of lakeside amenities as well as activities. But the customer service upon reservation inquiry, follow up prior to arrival, upon arrival and upon departure was TERRIBLE!
We stayed for 2 nights in the Montcalm cabin upstairs. The purpose of our stay was to attend a wedding locally, so all of our activity was off-site. It was the weekend of Oct 18/19.
My first call to them to inquire about a reservation and to see if there was “block” pricing for the wedding guests, was met with an abrupt NO. The gentleman on the phone lacked any social grace, leaving me to shake my head and not be happy about reserving a place at this establishment.
They take 50% reservation fee immediately upon booking and you receive an email confirming the reservation. The next correspondence from them is THE DAY of arrival. Since we are renting a cabin, I began to wonder about coffee maker, toaster, linens, paper towels, etc. So I called to ask about these things and spoke with a gentleman that was not friendly and rushed to get me off the phone. I would not have called had I received an email a few days before my arrival advising me of these details. But I only received that email the day of my arrival. I had already packed...
I also inquired about an earlier check in and he advised me that would not be a problem since nobody was staying in our place the night before. When we arrived, he called housekeeping to ask if our place had been cleaned (while I was standing at the desk)and he was told yes. We drove to the place and began unloading the car only to find out housekeeping was in our place cleaning, and it would not be available for another half hour or so. So no early check in. It became available a few minutes before 4 pm... Finally, upon check out, I was advised they would be adding 5% to my bill for housekeeping gratuity. They advised me this was written in their policy for any weddings or family reunions. What?? I was a guest at a wedding in the area. And I am being penalized for it?? If anything, wouldn’t an establishment reward the wedding party for booking up so many rooms??? Instead I was expected to pay a $37 gratuity for cleaning? We had left a smaller $10 gratuity ($5 per night) for housekeeping already. There were 3 adults in the unit, no sandy feet, no company over, no cooking going on beyond a light breakfast. We cleaned out the refrigerator and turned on the dishwasher. The place was clean. When I advised we already left a gratuity the woman advised me she would refund me whatever we left. Which they did.
I find their customer service approach backward and unfriendly and I would not recommend their place to anybody. Their sense of entitlement to my business and their unfriendly manner has ensured I will not...
