Brief overview: Unwelcoming hostess Delicious restaurant w/ very kind and helpful staff Amazing beer Noisy room (Room 1) Meager breakfast but tasty nonetheless In-depth review:
My girlfriend and I stayed her from one night on Columbus Day weekend 2012. We noticed they brewed their own beer and are conveniently located just outside of Ithaca so it seemed to be the perfect place for a quick getaway.
We stayed in Room 1 which had a private bath and were very happy with the room. It was clean and tidy and more than enough room for a couple. Our only issues with the room were the noise from the road and the restaurant staff below. We weren't sure if the room was located above part of the dining area or part of the kitchen but when were were trying to sleep, the staff was cleaning on the floor below us and we could hear every chair moved, every joke cracked and every pan clanged.
Once the staff had departed, we were left with road noise for the remainder of the night. There isn't much to be done about it because of the places location, but if you are looking for a silent restful night, this is most likely not the place you want to be.
My one other complaint would be about the manager, Eileen. While we managed to get checked in, every interaction with her seemed cold. I honestly felt like I had done something to wrong her and she was holding it against. When we first checked in she was pretty short with us. I don't know if we looked like crummy kids that were only there to ransack the place (we are mid-20's, young professional type), or if that is just her demeanor with all guests but she didn't seem like the hospitality type. I felt like we had inconvenienced her by showing up and checking in.
The same was the case when we decided to try out the restaurant for dinner. She seemed rather irritated with having to take names and give waiting times as the hostess. We stood around for about 5 minutes with a handful of other people in a huddle of confusion before approaching the desk and asking to be put on the list. In my experience, the hostess should notice new patrons and make them feel welcome, not wait around for people to try and figure out the system and speak up on their own. Once I gave our name and our party size I had to ask how long of a wait it would be. Someone must have overheard me and decided to ask me for the wait time rather than approaching the hostess. It was busy, but it is never too busy to attempt to make guests feel welcome. This is where the negative criticisms stop!
The restaurant staff and bartender were absolutely wonderful. We waited at the bar for our table and were informed of the beers made at the inn. The bartender was kind and talkative despite being rather busy. When we got to our table our waiter, Jerry if I remember correctly, was incredibly helpful at explaining the menu and did what I thought was an A+ job. My opinion may be swayed for the better due to his fancy curled mustache.
The food was amazing. I got fish and chips and my girlfriend got the mushroom ravioli. We also tried a flatbread that included cheddar, caramelized onions and an apple cider reduction sauce. All the food was excellent. We could not stop talking about how delicious everything was. We both ordered a flight of the house beers and found them to be wonderful as well. My favorite would have to be the Pale Ale.
All in all it was a nice stop but not entirely as relaxing or comfortable as we were hoping. The staff were incredibly nice aside from a mildly inhospitable manager / hostess. The restaurant and beers were exquisite. The room was nice but a little too noisy at night to be relaxing. I would most definitely go back but only for the...

Eileen - was sitting at the desk and was not friendly. She took my card immediately to charge the room and was pretty much quiet. This made me feel very uneasy. She showed us to our room and made a quick escape. I expected her to tell us a little about the inn and restaurant/brewery. If you want this, go to the website since that's all you will get. She did nothing to make me ever want to go back there again, let alone suggest it to others.
From the website photos and descriptions 'room three is the most original room in the inn... pressed tin ceiling, majolica tiled non-working fire place, king size cherry sleigh bed, marble top dresser, shared full bath and 1/2 bath'. The room was fair in size; scarce in decoration, with discount low pile carpeting.
Room: (3) was extremely dry. I got a nosebleed. We ended up wetting and re-wetting towels, putting them on the radiator for humidity. There should be humidifiers in the rooms for the winter. It did have a space heater - which wasn't needed since we were hot all night. Ceiling fan - the chain was very high up, and had to climb up on the bedframe, to turn the fan on. After turning the fan on, it made sense why the chain wasn't there. The fan was wobbling precariously from the ceiling. Safety hazard!
Bathroom(s) I knew this room did not have a full attached bath, but thought the half bath was close to our room. Reality is you had to walk out the room, down the hall take a left and go to the other end of the hall. This makes for a long walk in the middle of the night. The half bath was on an outside wall and freezing cold. The 'full' bath is a 3/4 bath with a small shower stall. You could not shave in this stall if you needed too.
Smells - The smell of the kitchen rose up the stairs and was nauseating. If you have sensitivity to odors, beware.
Sights - none dirt parking which was muddy and roads on either side of the hotel. Another building behind that is not in use by a business any longer.
Sounds - With this being located at the intersection of two roads, the noise was awful. Our room faced the main road and sirens and traffic noise were not peaceful. Even with the 'sound' machine on, we could hear them
Food - the food in the bar/restaurant was very good. We had onion rings which were freshly made and light and crispy. Dinner was very good as well. We ordered a flight of beer, but I didn't like any of them. Ithaca Beer Co was by far better! Breakfast was...

My wife and I were planning to have lunch here while traveling around Cayuga Lake. I knew the dining area opened around 3 pm, but we ended up there around 2:10 pm. I thought maybe we could look around the Inn until the dining area was open. It turns out we may have also arrived too early for the inn itself to be open. Fair enough - we didn't know.
I walked up the steps to see if it was open. A man opened the door and stood in the entrance so we couldn't enter. I didn't feel like I was met with a very warm reception, as he seemed irritated that we were there. I mentioned we were looking to dine there and he coldly replied that it wasn't open yet. I asked if it would be okay for us to look around the inn, since we were too early. (Mind you, he still hasn't moved out of the way for us to enter past the thresh-hold.) He replied, "That's up to the boss" and pointed to a woman. She looked up at us and said "Sure." (Not "Sure" as in Yes, please come in - but "sure" as in - 'I guess if they must.')
We walked in, and she also seemed put out that we were there and told us that we could look at the lobby and that we couldn't go upstairs, as that was for people staying at the inn. She made no effort to greet us, ask where we were from, etc. Just coldly said we could look at the lobby and she went back to her desk there.
Since the building is from 1830, I asked if she had any pamphlets that talked about the history. Again, seeming irritated, she stated, "No, we don't - It's on the website." Again, this was all she said to us.
First impressions are always key - and our first impression was that we weren't welcomed and that we were putting people out by being there. So, no sense staying where you aren't welcomed. We decided to find another location to dine. It seems they didn't really want our business, so we decided to not give them any.
If you are running an inn, you will need to make a better attempt to meet people where they are at. Politeness, hospitality, and a feeling of being welcomed are essential to such a business if it is to do well.
I wish you folks well for the future, but I have to say I personally am not interested in...
