Checking in at the bar....that was a little weird. The bartender had a "day planner" with our info recorded in it. The room was very nice. Neat and clean, and in a VERY quiet location. The beds....well that was a bit of a problem, much like the story of the 3 bears. The downstairs bed was "mama bears". It was MUCH too soft, and had we slept there, we would have had horrible backaches. The mattress probably needs replaced, as I suspect it gets more use than the upstairs bed. So, we trudged up stairs (the spiral staircase was a bit difficult to navigate, till you figure out the trick of staying on the outside rail). The upstairs bed was a bit too firm, but we went for it, figuring we had a better shot of a good night's sleep on a firmer mattress.||||Unfortunately, with the warm weather, the AC from downstairs didn't make it upstairs very well, so we did get a little warm. It would be great in winter, with the nice fuzzy comforter that was there. The loft's dormer window kept the room a little "light" especially considering that it was storming all night long. The in room coffee maker was sad....first pot of coffee you could see through (looked like tea), so we ran it through a second time, and used 2 packets (1 regular & 1 decaf) made it taste ok. Still it was a fun getaway. Be sure to ask for a wifi password. They did have wifi, but we weren't offered a password at checkin.||||Food: Truly a mix of good and not so good. You're out in the sticks, so you've really got no choice, Sawmill or Mooselips (the same place, just better decor in Mooselips). Sawmill is first and foremost a bar. We'd heard great things about it...but my first advice is if you don't like a noisy bar, go EARLY. We got there around 5:30, but by 6 or 6:30, they had cranked up the music so loud you couldn't think. The food was excellent, but the soda machine mix was not good (dr. pepper just didn't taste quite right). I had one of the burgers and fries. A big burger with delicious toppings and a HUGE serving of fries. My husband got the 1/2 broasted chicken and red potatoes with garlic seasoning. They were both very good. Our server was excellent, and when she came by, she noticed my husband had set his chicken breast aside (it was slightly underdone). She took it back without even being asked, and they made him 2 new pieces of chicken. We had enough leftovers to make another meal EASILY. We had the same server for breakfast the next morning. It was tasty, but nothing real special. We were expecting a HUGE selection (based on other reviews), but it was pretty basic. My husband got an egg dish with spinach and bleu cheese. He LOVES bleu cheese, but he said there was way too much on there, and it was VERY sharp tasting. I had what was supposed to be scrambled eggs with meat, peppers/onions, and cheese. It actually turned out to be an omelette. It was very good, but again, wasn't what we were expecting. Overall, it was a good anniversary getaway, and I would likely go again. We were in the addition. The original building is brick on the outside and supposedly has the original wood floors and...

What a pleasant and unexpected surprise. I stayed at the Lenroot Lodge for one night before a bike packing ride around northern Wisco. Hotel accommodations in and around that area are few and far between. They only have 10 rooms. And each is well worth it. Mine was actually a loft style with a very cool spiral staircase to the loft which featured an additional bed. You could sleep four comfortably in my room. There is a fridge and microwave. Well-appointed with the wood. The exterior has a wood lodge look as well. The surrounding area is beautiful. ||||It’s not easy to find as it is off the main road and the signage is not obvious. Also, check-in is at the nearby Sawmill Saloon. Pretty rustic method to check-in!!!! There is no 24 hour front desk for the Lodge. So, you are pretty much on your own over-night. You have readily available breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Saloon.||||I will definitely go back and stay at the Lodge for a ride, XC ski, snow mobile or snow shoe. One alst note, the address is Seeley, WI but you will find it...

I’m someone who has NEVER left a negative review but this was ridiculous. So…Our stay never happened because they called at 10:05pm to tell me they gave our room away. Three kids who had fished all day and they gave our room away. They have a saloon, which is where you check in, and they knew we were coming late, so confused why later check in would have been a problem. I needed two rooms and at one point after reserving one (rooms were hard to come by this night) they called to tell me they had two but I wasn’t able to cancel the other one I had found for the person traveling with us so I called Lenroot back to say thank you but we’ll just take the one and I actually said “we’re for sure coming but we’re fishing in Ashland so it’ll be a bit”. We had stayed one time before and had a good experience but after this I’d never feel comfortable reserving there again. We’ve done a lot of traveling in northern WI and I’ve never been treated that way, ever. Terrible...
