Booking the room was very simple and easy. My first impression of the room was great. It was very quaint and homie. That being said, the cleanliness of the room was lacking and the maintenance needed some work.
ROOM: The bed was neatly made, and the garbage had been taken out. It seemed like the main bedroom had been cleaned, but the bathroom was skipped. We found a wet used rag on the floor of the shower. We also found hair underneath the toilet seat. When using the shower, you had to keep the pressure low, because if you turned it to a normal pressure, the bottom of the shower pan would flood with with water, which results in standing in dirty water. The stand in shower was fairly small. I am 6' tall and had to duck a little bit to get my hair wet. I do not hold this against them though as I you only have so much space to work with. Unfortunately, due to the bathroom, it made us question the cleanliness of the bedroom. It seemed very clean. But, we decided to sleep on top of the comforter and used our own comforter that we brought just in case. I also would have liked to use the comfy fleece blanket that was in a basket, but decided against it as well (just in case). The entry was a keypad lock, which we really liked instead of having a key or a key card. Also, even though it was an old school thermometer, the heater was new and efficient. It worked like a champ. It was cold in the room when we got there, but when we turned the temperature up, the room was warm within less than 5 minutes. The heat was also a cozy heat. It felt different than the heat from my furnace at home if that makes sense.
SERVICE: As previously mentioned, booking the room as easy. My only qualm would be that they only provided us with two towels for two evenings and I wish they would have given us four.
LOCATION: The location was amazing. Only 5 minutes from Washington Island. Only 20 minutes from the state park and 10 minutes from some tasty restaurants.
Overall, I was actually still satisfied with the visit. The room had a great vibe. I would give them a second chance with the room. I'd like to think they simply forgot about the bathroom or got distracted in the middle of cleaning our room.
I would still recommend this place.
Best Regards,

Read moreThe place was easy to find. They had a huge sign so we were able to spot them easily from the road.
Landscaping was nice and clean. They had a hammock, swing, bonfire and a nice outside seating area. We didn’t really use any of the things outside besides the hammock, was comfy!
Instructions provided to check in were very easy to follow. Upon entering our room, it did look very nice. Rooms were recently remodeled I believe. The only complaint I had about our room was, it smelled the entire time we were there. We tried leaving the windows open while we were out during the day but the smell was still there when we came back. Not sure if it was due to the recent renovations or not but we couldn’t pinpoint the smell BUT it wasn’t the bedding/pillows so that was a plus! If I could describe the smell, it smelled like damp/wet laundry that has been left out for days. My boyfriend thought maybe since they recently renovated it was due to the paint but I don’t think it was that.
Room was clean though. TV is on the smaller side but it was a smart TV so can’t complain. They had enough towels for our 2 day stay (small/big).
It was very quiet, other people who stayed were quiet too so this was nice. I liked how we weren’t bothered at all! Checkout instructions were also easy to follow.
This is a nice place to stay if you like to be left alone. We would definitely stay again. It’s close to the ferry to go to Washington Island and close to Sister Bay too (food/entertainment/shopping). Also close to a cherry picking farm as well, which we did not...
Read moreMaple Grove is the kind of place where your kids can’t wait to get out of the car to check the garden for raspberries, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, herbs, sunflowers, or any other surprises that may be there. They run free and sleep hard, get excited about hot chocolate for breakfast in the pavilion and completely forget we even brought the iPad. It’s close enough to everything amazing in Door County (along with some hidden gems only Captain John will tell you about!) but also a world away so you can disconnect to reconnect and create the memories we always wanted together.
There is also a very neat outdoor pavilion in the center of the grounds where we have enjoyed sharing breakfast, swapping stories, meeting other people, and famous jam-okie sessions. We like to say this motel is ‘north of the tension line’ leaving lots of cares far away, and we usually have our next trip planned before we leave.
