There were 3 generations of us ladies staying at the American Hotel. We had the room on the 1st floor, so that we could have access to the beautiful front porch. We love being outdoors, and the rocking chairs where perfect. Also, in the backyard of the hotel is a large patio area and lawn with seating. Even at night we found Lightening Bugs, so incredible! |Our room was nice, had a small refrigerator and the bathroom had everything we needed. Even in June, it was a little cool, so waking up in the morning and coming out to the common area with the wood burning stove going was awesome! Breakfast was around 8am, and we absolutely loved the menu selections. Also, a huge plus was Linda our server and John in the kitchen. Linda was very welcoming and attentive. John really knows how to make a fabulous breakfast (I even ate the vegan breakfast sausage). Our experience at the hotel was like visiting family and not staying at a random hotel. We stayed for 3 nights, and when it came time to leave, we were very sad. Michael was a great host; he is really putting his heart into the hotel. |Good news, we are coming back again in July, we simply cannot stay away. We are taking every opportunity to stay at the American Hotel. Also heard they are now going to offer other food and beverage options besides their fantastic breakfast. |Anyone coming to this beautiful area, MUST spend the evening or more at the hotel, you will not be...
Read moreI had the distinct pleasure of staying at the amazing American Hotel in Sharon Springs last week while visiting my Mom for her birthday.
Michael the innkeeper was so helpful, friendly, and lovely to chat with! The room I stayed in (#5) was cozy and perfect for my needs. The color scheme is a deep yellow, and the bathroom has the quaint black and white tile which matches the period style so nicely. There were special touches in the room like a makeup remover cloth, a small fridge with bottled water (AND local chocolates!), and an air conditioner.
Michael also played along with a little trick I had planned on my Mom; as I was able to set up some plants I had purchased on the porch. I then told my Mom and her friends that we were "stealing" plants :) and we loaded them into the Jeep.
In the morning, breakfast was from 8-9 (customer's choice of arrival time within that window). I must say that the breakfast options were incredible! There were corn cakes with bacon, lemon ricotta pancakes, and three-egg omelettes! They even had GF toast for me, as well as fresh fruit. John the chef, came out and talked with us after we ate, and was also very friendly.
Linda, our server, is my new best friend! She was kind and attentive, and willing to talk with us about various adventures as well as local resources. It was like getting together with family, and I hope to return later this summer! THANK YOU for the...
Read moreWe stayed at this quaint hotel during our visit to Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame Weekend. Our experience was really enjoyable. Michael Palaia and Marco Braeutigam have working hard to put together a quality experience at this renovated inn which is on the National Register of Historic Places and thus far the results are fantastic! The rooms are small but comfortable with individual bathrooms and room appropriate refrigerators stocked with water and small boxes of local chocolate. The bathrooms also featured Beekman bath products from the famous local producer with a store across the street. The sit-down breakfast each morning was delicious and featured such items as ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote, scrambled eggs with various veggies and cheese, and French toast. All items could be ordered with bacon or sausage too! They also recently began their dinner service and we enjoyed a delicious and reasonably priced dinner also served in the lovely and comfortable hotel dining room. We did not have time to sit on their vast porch or in the beautiful garden but hopefully next time we will allow time to linger and enjoy this beautiful property. The staff (Michael, Linda, Veronica, etc.) are wonderful and go out of the way to make you feel at home. We eagerly look forward...
