A welcoming, quiet, sweet sturdy historic inn with cozy beds, soft sheets, modern conveniences, with a great a balance of intimate and private. It’s run by friendly, unintrusive innkeeper Loretta, who offers plenty of good food, fresh baked goodies and warm hospitality to start your day with. We stayed in the roomy Aramis Suite, perfect for older Mom & daughter, parent/s and kid, just 2 friends, or fussy couples. Loved the bathroom. Hot water slightly pokey to come up but lasted a long while.
Location wise it’s tucked off the main road, a long stones throw from the wonderfully restored historic West Taghkanic Diner. (limited open hours/days- plan ahead).
Book lovers: Within 10 mins east or west are 2 wonderful bookshops- the very unique Little Red Book Shack and wonderful gem, Rogers Book Barn. Northwest is Olana, a fascinating historic home overlooking the Hudson built by painter, world traveler, naturalist and Central Park planner Frederick Church. Don’t miss the gift shop!
A drive along little nearby winding roads is extra rewarding with autumn leaf change underway, but every season will offer something extraordinary.
Note: Wifi inside is strong but beware poor reception in the general area esp if driving at night within a 15 mile radius- gets very dark and locals drive faster than you may want to. Remember your location, follow a busy road if you get lost. Recommend to download a map of local roads btwn Red Hook, Hudson, and Kinderhook so you have a reference. Vermont day trip is doable but leave early. NW Mass as nice.
Sleep in, go exploring, time slows down here.. these days that’s a priceless...
Read moreThis place saved our lives! Loretta is an angel, she let us book a room with our two dogs last minute while we were caught in an awful rainstorm on the highway. I seriously thought we were going to die on the road, was so relieved when she said we could stay. Was a bit worried the inn would be in some remote area, difficult to navigate in the storm but luckily it was right off the exit. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised to see how beautiful the place was. Once we pulled into the parking lot we were surrounded by the most beautiful gardens with flowers and vines growing everywhere not to mention the huge grassy yard which our dogs loved. It was simply magical. We stayed in the private barn space which had the most comfortable king sized bed, all the kitchen essentials A/C and cable tv. It was just perfect. We all slept like babies, including our dogs! We owe a debt of gratitude to Loretta, not only did she save us but we actually had a nice time in spite of a terrible ride. She even made muffins and coffee in the morning! Can’t recommend this...

BnB: We stayed in the Garden Suite. It's detached from the main home where the other rooms are so you get a bit more privacy if you need. The room has a comfortable king bed, 2 bunk beds (we didn't use), and your own bathroom. The kitchen area is well stocked with amenities, working mini fridge and microwave, and utensils, plates, and cups.
Experience: Loretta made our stay very comfortable. She was very responsive, accommodating, and considerate. She cooked breakfast, which we got to enjoy outside with the fresh air. The lawn area is large -- it has a fire pit and chair, a patio with comfortable lounge chairs, and grass area allowed our dog to do his zoomies . There's flowers and decorative touches that keep things interesting.
I wouldn't hesitate to come back!...
