We went to this dive on Satuday. A family of 4 was $72. I dont mind paying money for good food and great service but this was an experience I have got to say was one I won't want to experience again. NEVER ever have I ever had such bad service and even worse food. And I come from NYC. After walking in a slight discussion occured between two waitresses as to where we were being seated. Took them almost 7 minutes to come back over to ask for beverages of choice and to see if we were ready to order. Beverages ordered were three coffees and one chocolate milk for my 4 year old bonus son. They didnt bring them til almost ten minutes later. And the coffee came in little mugs - almost half the size of a regular mug and it tasted like it had sat for a while. When we ordered the double cheeseburger we were not told it was on bread - menu stated sourdough - nothing about it being toasted bread. On top of that they were both way well done, no juice in them as they were very dry, had very little cheese and had some funky vinegar taste. It left me and my boyfriend tearing them apart off of the bread to try to eat them. We asked for some mayonaise and sliced onion. What we received were two extra small cups of mayo not even filled all the way and a plate with 3 or 4 thin slices of the end of the onion. They were the size of small pickle slices. Had to wait almost 8 minutes for those too. My little 4 year old bonus son wouldnt even eat his cheeseburger because it was burnt. The salad that came with the kids meal was just a plate of weird lettuce and that was it. No tomatoe, no croutons or anything no cheese NOTHING JUST WEIRD BITTER LETTUCE. He took a bite and spit it out. He kept telling the waitress his food was gross when she finally came to ask if we were done and needed anything. All she did was laugh. Get the bill and it was $71.55. Without being told we were charges $1 for the onion, $3 for the mayonaise, $3.25 for a small kids cup of chocolate milk. That was outrageous!! NEVER EVER have I ever been charged that especially without being told. I have woked as a waitres and in the food service industry for 25 years and NEVER had the service I did here. My boyffriend and I were left physically ill for the rest of the night from whatever vinegar thing was on the burger. the service alone was something left to be desired as the waitress was hardly over to ask if we were ok, if there was anything else she can get us. I had to flag her over for the request of...

Ugh! Went here a few days ago with 2 visiting friends who were enthusiastic about trying the place. I did not really want to go, as I'd been there once before, about a year ago. I'd had a $20 "Reuben" that neither looked like one nor tasted like one, and some blah-tasting, arty-label beer. We'd sat outside, which would have been nicer if there wasn't trash blowing around on the ground. Big disappointment.

But, I wanted to let my friends, my guests, make the choice as to where we'd go for lunch. We ate inside. Once again, big disappointment for someone who loves a good diner. A real diner, with real diner food, with prices that are "inclusive", meaning affordable for more than those who can pay NYC prices. And, the pieĢ€ce de résistance . . . the menu. The menu is limited, pricey, and PRETENTIOUS.

I have lived here for over 30 years now, and by the standards of some around here, still do not count as a "local". I like to think of myself as open-minded, so will give most things at least one chance, regardless of the opinions of those around me. WTD got 2 chances from me. Yeah, the crispy potato salad was good. But, it was all I ordered, as I refused to fork over $18-$20 for a sandwich. Sorry, I lied. I ordered a diet coke, too, which was flat.

If you want good, REAL diner food, get off the beaten path a little (go to Copake!). I will be very surprised if WTD doesn't change hands again within the next 5 years. It used to be a "go to" place for everybody. So sad. Really felt like I was being scammed...

It’s ok. With the pandemic, you can only order online or in person. We decided to order online as it was about 30 min away and it said it would be ready in 30 min - perfect! That was easy, albeit pricey. $9 for a breakfast sandwich and $4 for orange juice. We had to wait an additional 10 min, past the 30 min that it was supposed to be ready ... then another 5 min just to get straws. And they weren’t busy.

The breakfast sandwich was nothing to write home about. Based on this alone, we wouldn’t go back. The bacon and egg were cooked just right, but the greens were sloppy (kale, maybe?) with no taste and on a store bought sesame bun. It says there was cheese, but I can’t be sure. For $9 it should be the best sandwich I ever tasted.

The orange juice is fantastic - worth the $4. We even enjoyed walking around the flower garden while waiting for our food.

When we got our food order, we additionally decided to get some cookies to have when we got home (we live 20 min away). The cherry pepper chocolate cookie is interesting, but overall good flavor. The salted chocolate chip is really good.

Here’s the proverbial cherry ... on top of every order is a 15% tip with an explanation that they split the tips and making a livable wage. I am in full support of tipping (typically we tip 20%), but with exorbitant prices and automatic tipping with subpar service and food I have a hard time recommending this place. They even added tip on the cookies ...

I want to like it, but maybe I’ll wait for other people to give reviews...

West Taghkanic Diner has some excellent items on the menu. In the era of the pandemic, the menu has been trimmed down on, but still has a variety of options. Right now, as weather permits, they have well distanced outdoor dining in their garden. Employees wear masks and gloves, hand sanitizer is available at the food pickup/drink station, one way flow for ordering (in one door, out the other, distancing enforced, etc.). They put thought into the menu on their ingredients, but their real winner is the smoker. The dishes served with smoked meat are generally excellent. The Reuben and pulled pork sandwiches in particular are dynamite. The breakfast hash is also readily recommended. There are a variety of cocktails and beer/wine options available. Prices are relatively high but generally worth it - in addition to slightly higher prices, WT charges 15% automatic gratuity on the entire bill. Waits can vary depending on timing and number of people were around: I've been served in five minutes and in forty five.

Stopped here on our way home. It’s just off the Taconic. Best ā€œdinerā€ we’ve ever been to. We shared the Greek salad (comes in 2 sizes), clam chowder (2 sizes also), the Reuben sandwich and a scoop of Jane’s vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, burnt honey caramel and sprinkles. We loved every bite of all we had! We ordered the salad as our side with the sandwich. The greens and tangy lemony dressing were tasty. Although the clam chowder did not have a ton of clams, we prefer quality to quantity and the soup was flavorful and delicious. As for the Reuben, we ordered it on sourdough and got the sauce on the side. It was incredible! Since it was close to closing time on Sunday and they are closed early in the week, we missed out on the homemade baked goods. We will be back! Our entire feast before tip was just under $40. Very affordable for the quality of ingredients and the skill of the kitchen.
