Many of the reviews for this B&B are old, so let me bring you up to date. I brought my boyfriend to this inn for his birthday. I read many of the negative reviews AFTER I made my reservation, but it was too late to cancel without a penalty. So I went with a bit of apprehension, particularly when it came to the negative reports on cleanliness and the comfort of the bed. Let me put your mind to rest. It is just fine!! Look, the house is 300 years old. There is no way the baseboards and areas behind everything are going to be as clean as a Hilton, a professional hotel chain, or a B&B that was built more recently. There is just no way. But the important parts - a clean bathroom, clean floors you can walk barefoot on if you need to, clean sheets and towels, and clean areas to lay out your toiletries and clothes - no worries. All of these areas are perfectly acceptable. The bed is comfortable enough. No, it's not nice new, thick, pillowtop mattress, and I think the owner, Pattye, could consider improving upon it. But hey, I'm over 50 and I didn't suffer any consequences and slept comfortably through the night. ||||The morning breakfast was delicious. Fresh fruit, juice, coffee and the main dish was a period recipe of a kind of a sweet thick pancake baked in a cast iron skillet with sausage on the bottom layer. I might have preferred something savory to something sweet - that's just my preference - but Pattye asks about allergies and preferences so feel free to indicate what you prefer when you make your reservation. The best part of breakfast was dining by the roaring fire in the 14-foot walk-in fireplace like they would have done in times past. ||||The bedroom's temperature was perfectly fine, and this was in the dead of winter no less! But I am a California wimp and prefer even more warmth so I brought my portable heater and Pattye was very kind to let me plug it in, which I did to take the late night/early morning chill off, but that was all I used it for. ||||So all in all, I recommend this B&B. We were very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed the interesting history...
Read moreOn a recent trip to Chanticleer Gardens and Valley Forge, my husband and I were fortunate to have stayed in this historic B&B. Our host, Pattye, was a wealth of information about the history of the house, which was deeded by William Penn in 1681. The stone sink in the Old Kitchen is one of only two in the US, and this stone sink is what helps to date the home.||||Our room, the William Thomas Room, was huge. An antique iron bed, a wonderful mattress, comfy pillows, and a warm duvet made for a great night’s sleep. There was also a TV, a desk, a table and two chairs, and a sofa in our room. We found the room to be clean and comfortable. There were lots of books for reading as well. The bathroom was large and clean. ||||I really enjoyed the displays of period clothing throughout the main floor. There are many interesting antiques in the home, which added to its charm. ||||Breakfast was huge and tasty—fresh fruit, warm cranberry bread, blueberry muffins, an egg and vegetable soufflé, coffee, tea, and juice. While we were having breakfast, Patteye gave an interesting and informative history lesson about the house.||||Thank you, Pattye, for a...
Read moreThe Great Valley House was a fabulous and super-interesting place to stay while partaking in an intense skill enhancement seminar. It was my home away from home. The owners of this unique and quirky home are a lovely couple, Pattye & Jeff. They were always nice and accommodating my entire week stay. It was fantastic to hear all about the historical history of the house and Pattye was always ready to help find the perfect eating spot or suggest cute neighborhood shopping spots. Breakfast was delicious and served in the kitchen of the oldest portion of the house. Loved all the antiques everywhere, room was spacious, headboard squeaked, floors creaked, and the history could be felt at every turn. Such a fantastic experience! Not for you if you are looking for sterile clean, memory foam pillows, down comforters and sleep number beds. But if you enjoy a little adventure and want to feel a part of history, the Great Valley House is the only place for you! Can't wait to return! Thank you Pattye & Jeff for such a lovely time! Loved your house and am so grateful you turned it into a B&B so we can all enjoy the oldest house in...
