Overall a great campground! Spent four nights there recently and was very pleased with the area and things to do nearby. Bathrooms/showers were clean, very well maintained. Would give a 5 star review but just a few small issues to be aware of. No dump station on site was noted on the website but didn't think too much of it at the time. After a hike in Perrot the day before we noticed just how far in we would have to drive to get to the dump station from the campground. Packing up and everyone tired from a busy weekend made the idea of driving 10-15 minutes into the state park not so fun, and another 10-15 minutes back out to head home. Ended up finding a Loves truck stop on the way home rather than 30+ minutes the other direction.
Was pleasantly surprised by the free firewood, but quickly found most of it to be a combination of unseasoned/wet wood that didn't make getting a fire started very easy. Had to end up buying some dry wood to get fires going then was able to use the wood piled up at the campground.
The last issue totally out of the control of the campground are the freight train horns. The camper a/c did a decent job of drowning them out, but if you're a light sleeper, be aware of several throughout the night.
Still, very happy with our stay and if we find ourselves back in the area we will definitely consider...
Read moreEasy booking, close to town, very clean, well-maintained road, nice dog park area. The sites were small and very close together (see photo). We were right next to some seasonal/permanent campers who were initially parked in our campsite, had taken our picnic table for their use, let their kids run around in our campsite, and were loudly socializing late into the night. In addition, other seasonal/permanent campers would walk through our campsite to get to them. Neighbors drove quickly by on the gravel, to which the seasonal campers would loudly yell "Slow Down!!!" Very much felt out of place amongst the permanent campers. Close to a very active train track. Arguably the worst part was that there was poison ivy in our campsite, which we noticed after my husband began breaking out from it. Mosquitoes were also awful, which isn't surprising this close to the water, but something to make note of. We left a night early, partly due to rain and partly due to the the instrusive neighbors, lack of privacy,...
Read moreOur weekend at Lake Road Campground was incredible. We stayed in the Bunk House Camper and our kids absolutely loved it. At one point my son asked if we could just live there forever! The view along with Mississippi River was beautiful, and the campground is incredibly well maintained. I also cannot say enough about the staff at Lake Road Campground. From the detailed suggestions Tricia sent us of what to pack for the trip, to being met on site by Brad we didn't have a questions on unanswered or a need unmet. If you're looking for a fun and quiet little getaway for your family, look no further than Lake Road Campground! My only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer. We...
