Express Inn & Suites — Hotel in Trion

I booked this motel with a guarantee against my credit card, and I showed up in the late afternoon intending to stay. I had concerns even as I parked and looked at the building and the men smoking in the parking lot. Before I checked in, an event (described below) convinced me to cancel out of concerns for health and safety. The desk clerk knew exactly what I was referring to but was obnoxiously rude, yelling at me and pretending he didn't understand what I was saying. Even though I had not checked in, he would not cancel the impending charge to my credit card. He refused to give me his name, refused to give the name of his manager, and gave me blatantly wrong information. I taped 5 minutes of that horrendous conversation then left and will dispute the charge through my credit card company. After I left, I drove 40 miles and checked into a clean and comfortable national chain motel near the interstate.||||This is what concerned me: In the lobby, the woman ahead of me had booked (and paid) for two nights but stayed only one and was trying to get a refund for the second night. She said her room was filthy when she arrived (dirty sheets on one bed, dirty floor, hair and soap scum in the bathroom); when she called the front desk the night manager said there were no other available rooms (and offered to clean hers but not until morning). The men hanging in the hallway and parking lot were scary so she moved furniture in front of the door and slept with her gun; in the morning at the ice machine she was approached (and touched) by a man attempting to solicit prostitution. As I listened, she explained that she had complained when she first saw the room and again in the morning; she gave the name of the desk manager who she'd talked to and said she'd arranged the possibility of canceling this second night if she could find alternative lodging. But when she showed up to cancel, and while I watched, the desk clerk forcibly argued with her for over 20 minutes, often contradicting himself or pretending he didn't understand English. Neither she nor I got the cancellation refund we asked for.||||I fully understand the importance of a "24-hour cancellation policy" because most cancellations happen when a traveler changes plans. However, this other woman and I had both shown up with the full intention of staying, and we each changed our plans only after conditions at the motel made us feel unsafe. Ok sobwe had one of the presidential suites . I thought oh this will be nice cone to find out it appears to be a suite from some third world country. The outside ice machine doesn't work which sucked as itvwas hot in july, and the drink machine had lots of just orange soda no diet anything . Staff parks under the canopy for check in and then in a marked handicap spot. There is no elevator so if you have knee problems like I do you'll regret it. The paint and up keep of place is poor it has peeling paint and just out dated look. In the room when we get in our room you could tell someone near by was smoking cannabis the smell permaitted the air. The local police patrol and say its a favorite place to get a deal and not on the room . And the noise all night from traffic in the parking lot will make you unable to sleep. The bathroom omg the toilet didn't come up to my knee and I am short its like preschool sized. And the tub was so small and you couldn't barely close the potty door room was so small The sleeping area needs some paint and upkeep the chairs are very small and not comfortable. Three small pillows on a king bed not a fan and no blanket or quilt it was a sheet and what looked like a table cloth made into a cover . The owners of this facility have very nasty attitudes!! There is no breakfast and when I asked for coffee it severely ticked her off!!! Lord forbid you need anything during your stay if the owners are working!! The house keeping ladies were AMAZING!!! Very sweet and made sure we had everything we needed and that our stay was enjoyable!!! Mrs Hattie in house keeping also works front desk at times, I hope and pray that she's working when you check in, if you decide to stay here otherwise you will be greated with the nasty attitudes of the owners!!!! There is no continental breakfast, when I asked for coffee the owner slung some honey buns on the counter with an awful attitude and only made one cup coffee!! I'm seriously not sure how this facility continues to stay open with the owners nasty attitudes. Both days I was there the owners came in fussing at Mrs Hattie about various things very loud and in front of who ever was around!!! I honestly pray for Mrs. Hattie she had such a sweet presence about her and it broke my heart to see her be treated so hateful by the owners.
