Unfortunately, we were not happy with our stay in a Studio room for the following reasons:
Hampton Inn & Suite's rooms and studios are getting smaller and smaller. The studio room would be fine for one person but it's way too small for two people. Other than that, the studio room appeared to be clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a large TV, sofa, mini fridge, microwave, desk, good lighting and a double vanity sink and walk-in shower.
Location: This is probably the last hotel as you leave Tucson on I-10 heading SE. There are many commercial distribution centers and very little residential and retail. It's a very isolated area. We drove 4-5 miles and found a few non-chain restaurants. There is a Burger King next door and a Subway at the truck stop next door. Other than that, be prepared to drive approx. 10 miles for more restaurant options.
Covid-19: Our biggest reason for checking out early was the hotel's 'Covid measures'. When you walk in the lobby and look to the left, all of chairs are upside down, resting on the tables in the large gathering room. It's the first thing you notice when you walk in the front of the hotel! It's absolutely ridiculous!! If they want to promote social distancing, all they have to do is put a reserved sign on every other table instead of going to this ridiculous extreme. We're all adults..we don't need chairs sitting on tables. Another thing, there is no coffee served in the morning/round the clock. Instead you have a mini coffeemaker in your room that is more subject to being contaminated than a large urn of coffee in the gathering room. There is no way I would use an in-room coffee maker, Covid or no Covid!! Hotels need to keep the appearance of their hotel lobby and common areas as normal as possible. Quit treating adults like children!!! Put coffee in the lobby. If people choose not to drink it, it's their choice. Also, start serving limited breakfasts like cereal, individually wrapped bagels, single-serve yogurt, etc. I get the idea that a lot of hotels are taking away amenities because they want to pay fewer employees. I realize the travel industry has been hit extremely hard but keeping coffee and breakfast will make traveler's experiences more normal and it will make travelers happier. Make the lobby and common areas welcoming instead of sending the message 'Something bad...
Read moreI work nights and got roped into an early morning cancer walk at the UA Tech Park across the street. Decided to get a room in the area the night before to ensure I would make it to the walk rather than just hit the snooze button at home. ||Was glad to find this hotel located right where I needed to be. It looks fairly new and is in an area that is not built up yet. I walked around the area after dark to get my daily steps and it was quite safe. There is a gas station and a Burger King just to the south which was very convenient and easy to walk to. ||The young man at the front desk was very nice and friendly. The room looked clean. The only drawback was it had automated blinds which did not work. Could not lower them. I inquired at the front desk thinking I was an idiot who didn't know how to work the technology. Nope. They knew about the issue. I was told the previous guest was able to hang a blanket over the curtain rod. Worked like a charm. ||One drawback is trying to go go north into town there are two train tracks. I got stuck waiting for two trains to go past and one just stopped completely and blocked the road. I have no idea how often this happens, but it is pretty annoying to have to go back to the freeway to get where you want to go. And that's if you're not blocked in by other cars waiting for the trains to pass. Just another reason why the proximity of the gas station and Burger King to the hotel was helpful. ||The shower worked great. They have large pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner and soap rather than tiny bottles. There a small refrigerator, but no microwave which seemed odd. My room was on the north end facing a Target warehouse. I was worried there would be a lot of traffic noise at night, but I heard nothing. I saw the exercise room and laundry room. Did not use them, but it was a plus that they were there. Even though I stayed on a Saturday, the hotel was pretty quiet. I slept very well. ||My only big complaint is that pets are allowed. While that may be a good thing for people who are too selfish to leave their pets at home, there are too many people who are allergic, don't want to be disturbed by barking at all hours and don't want to rent rooms covered in pet hair to not have...
Read moreI checked into this hotel and could immediately smell the strong smell of cigarrette smoke. I notified the front office person and their response was, "Well you can smoke right outside the front door. What do you expect?" Well, I informed him that I am highly allergic to cigarrette smoke and that I wanted to cancel my reservation. Well, then I was informed that it was a nonsmoking hotel and my reservation could not be cancelled. But beware, they inflated the prices of the rooms x3 because of the gem show that was going on in Tuscon. ||I complained and voiced my concerns to the front desk every morning and evening and even on the day of departure as it was coming into my room on the 4th floor. Not even the manager or corporate cared to do anything about this situation. Their remedy was to have housekeeping spray more to cover it up. Didn't solve the problem. ||Housekeeping is provided to your room every other day, even though the website pointed out every day. They have very bad customer service and the sign on the check in counter that states that they guarantee 100% happiness and satisfaction is a lie. They never gave me anything off the price of the room or cared to resolve the problem. They only cared about the money that they got, which was way overpriced for the service provided. ||Then they lied about the location of the property. It was no where near the Tuscon airport and it was about 45 minutes away with traffic. I will never stay at another Hilton property again after this experience. It had been a long time since I had previously stayed at one and this was definitely the last. Because it was a smoking hotel that was branded as a non smoking hotel, but all smoking guests were definitely allowed to smoke inside and outside and they only had one elevator. That stunk of cigarette smoke as well. Beware, save your money and go to another property with better customer service and people that actually care about their customers happiness and well being and live by the company moto. As this one...
