We LOVE this campground! Nice sites right on the Nolichucky River. Can hear the river rapids as you hang out at your site. Can fish in river if you have a TN fishing license. Lots of bike riding all around the grounds/sites. There are trails to walk or hike. Very friendly, helpful park rangers and host staff. Pool is closed and has been for years which is sad. We are told they plan to replace the pool soon with a play area. Wish they would consider a splash pad if no plans for a future pool. Restrooms and bath houses very clean and nice. Dog-friendly park. Nice picnic pavilion area close to campsites and it appears all sites have their own picnic table. Fire pit not provided on all sites; but if not you can rent one from the camp store. There are several picnic tables right at river at boat dock area. You can drive to boat dock then walk to rivers edge and have a picnic. So peaceful and gorgeous scenery.
UPDATE JAN 2025: Sadly the recent unprecedented floods have closed this campground until further notice. I can’t wait to return after they repair it! But for now...
Read moreI don’t understand all of the reviews and pictures showing these wonderful grassy campsites, gorgeous views, saying it’s nice and quiet and a great experience.
When we showed up, the campground was about the size of a dollar general parking lot with tents set up in each parking spot. You could open up your tent and touch your neighbor next to you. The pictures posted online were very careful not to accurately show just how close together it really is, so you don’t even know until after you’ve made your non refundable reservation and show up.
My dad was out of town from 9hrs away to visit me and we had to cancel the entire camping trip and he drove home early because this ruined the trip for us. No refunds of course. I have dogs that bark and we needed something secluded. We were both under the impression that most camp sites would be more private since people camp to get away from people.. Never in both of our lives did we think camping would be...
Read moreI love this place. It's like stepping back in time 250 years. There's not a ton of things to do, but that's pretty much the point. It's primitive and it's supposed to be. This is the world we moved away from, but it's the world we need to remember as it has brought us to where we are now. It's a world we may somehow have to return to. If you're lucky enough to come when the homesteaders are around, you'll discover they are very knowledgeable about the site, the history, and the ways of life of those original settlers. There is also a wonderful campground, a gift shop, a mini museum, and a boat launch. The pool is closed and looks to need some work. I'm hopeful that is in the plans. There's a great little playground and a storybook walking trail with several stops along the way that are pages to a book that tell the story of Native Americans and their displacement. This is a wonderful part...
