This was a great place to enjoy the fall colors. I was tent camping. If you are tent camping, it is hit and miss with regard to rocks and roots all around the campsites. If you do happen to find a nice level spot for your tent, it is typically covered in rocks. I recommend bringing a rake so that you can clear at least the most offensive rocks.
Loop D was sparsely populated in the third week of Octoberâvery quiet and peaceful. It seems like the loops that are pet friendly were a little loud. One dog was barking enough for all the others, and that carried on for about half an hour. Iâm glad I was not in a pet-friendly loop.
The bathroom is super nice, but if youâre taking a shower, be advised: (1) after pressing the button to start a shower, you only get about eight seconds of water before you have to press the button again. (2) the water temperature would go back-and-forth between warm and cold. Maybe I pressed the button too many times.
If youâre trying to mountain bike on trails designated for mountain bikes, it seem to be pretty extremeâmany times covered in jagged rocks and not for the faint of heart! This was the first time I noticed a self-service bike maintenance station. Cool.
I found the horseshoe pit, but have no idea where one would find the horse shoes. đ
The Park, Rangers, and other park staff are super conscientious. I got to meet them three times. Particularly, this may happen if you make a reservation on a weekend, after the park office is closed. They kept asking me about a site tag. I didnât have one, but it was not my fault. I just booked on a Saturday night. Also, you have until 3 PM on check-out day to vacate the site, but if you look like youâre sitting around at lunchtime, theyâre going to approach you.
All in all, a memorable visit, a great experience, and I would...
Read moreFor such a beautiful place I was astounded by how poor my experience was. To start off with something good, the camp site (not campground) was wonderful. I am in a wheelchair and got a handicapped site. It was gorgeous, mostly secluded, and the bench and fire ring were fully paved for easy access.
That's the best of the trip, unfortunately. Nothing else was accessible, and for a 4 day trip I need a bathroom, obviously. The stall was wide enough and has railing, but my wheelchair could not fit in lengthwise. I am fairly built and have a compact wheelchair. The shower was big enough but there wasn't a single railing. So I could shower but it was dangerous and couldn't use the restroom without leaving the door wide open.
Aside from that The camp host also was having a domestic with their partner who attempted to leave at 9. Turned their car and lights on then got out and disappeared until after 1 am. Their car turned on with the door open and lights shining directly at our camper for over 4 hours.
The website also fails to mention that the public camp ground is over a miles hike away from the lake/store/pool with the closer campgrounds for private events only. Driving is fine but it would have been nice to know.
All in all, if you are not disabled your trip will be mostly fine as long as you are willing to drive for any form of recreation. My single star rating is based off of the fact that it is absolutely not accessible as advertised, odd situation with the host, and the misleading statements saying fishing, swimming, etc, are readily available but really over...
Read moreThe tent sites were super close to each other so super hard to really have any privacy. The ranger or whatever he was didnt seem to know the gun laws in pa or on state lands, despite it being posted on signs all over the grounds and came and harassed my husband over his firearm being visible while cooking over a fire... saying it might scare some kids.... he didnt ask him to remove it but as a law enforcement officer, he should have clearly stated the fundamental rights our consitution protects that he swore an oath to.... was disappointed in that. Then we were bothered by some lady trying to check in 4 hours early, and instead of the ranger correcting her, they came and harassed us for our paperwork, as if they dont know check out is 3 pm... not 11 am... then they found out the lady was trying to park her RV In a site only for tents, and made them correct their site choice but then never once offered us an apology.
Parents jsut let their rude impolite bully children run all over the campground unattended, almost ran me, a 5 month pregnant woman over on their bikes. Seems to be pretty trashy behavior.
Our loop host was extremely kind and diligent in his duties. And he did apologize for EVERYONE else's mistakes and impoliteness. Other than this man, it wasnt a great experience. He was probably the saving grace in LOOP C
We probably wouldn't choose here again for our next family...
