Ok, so yâall know that Iâm going to be detailed about vacation places like these because I know that we work hard to be able to get away so where we choose to spend our money with family is important and we came from Houston, Tx five and half hours awayâŚwas it worth it?? I say yes! We rented a cabin for the weekend âThe Bogeyâ we arrived late Friday evening because we got off of work and still had to get some stuff for our trip. The resort left our key in mail box with instructions on how to get to our cabin. The cabin had two queen size beds, microwave, restroom with shower and a small electric stove top. Bring enough covers and sheets it gets cold in the cabin. Donât forget your towels too!! They donât provide anything except cabin the beautiful river oh there are barbecue pits at every cabin. Make sure to take flash lights because itâs dark at the resort which we loved because we could turn off our lights and we can see the beautiful Texas sky the stars and the firefliesđit is beautifulđđź but you need lights and flash lights to help you see. Mosquitoes are fierce so pack plenty of spray. The resort has a kids play ground but itâs out dated and a broken swing and thatâs why I gave four stars instead of five. The resort has a petting zoo and other activities but they charge extra for all of that. We went to the river I canât stress enough that the walk to the river even if you are parked close by the walk is rough. There are rocks everywhere I mean the walk can be hard for elderly people people with bad feet and kids. It was hard on me and I have good feet. You will absolutely need water shoes or tennis shoes but donât try to walk it barefoot no no noâŚwe set up our tent right in the water and I really canât explain that because my family who arrived earlier had set that up and they did a great job. We ate sandwiches and we had two coolers in the water on a float my family did a great job. Our truck almost got stuck in the rocks because there is so many rocks. We spent the day in the river and then went back to the cabin ate hamburgers and just enjoyed the beauty that surrounded us! The river is located right in the middle of a hill which looks like a mountain. The water is so clear you can see the bottom itâs beautiful. I advice a hat so yr face doesnât get burned and for the kids too. The kids need a life jacket or at least arm floats because as you get farther out it gets deeper. There are rocks on the bottom of the water too. They have a swing rope that you can swing from my grand kids did it and they are only 5 and 7 BUT that area by the swing itâs very deep so be very careful. Overall, we had a great time on the river and at the cabin at the resort. We will return next year. I hope this review helps yâall please like my review if it did help you! Have fun stay safe and God bless! I forgot to mention that if yâall had any...
Read moreThe bluff is beautiful but the park is awful. My family came to camp for 2 nights (3 adults, 2 toddlers) and we left the first night after staying the day. The "boat dock" is a little crumbling stretch of boards, some leading up to the dock missing, so had to watch my little one so she didn't walk on it. There are fire ant mounds everywhere, even on the playground equipment and with mounds all along the fence where the animals are. There weren't any horses for trail riding, one of the guys told us there were going to get some soon. There was no feeding times (they say at 9 and 5 on the website). We went over at 5 with the kids to feed, and there was a guy in a little golf cart thing, shirtless and in sweat pant bottoms doing something in the stalls. We asked "is this the animal feeding?" and he said "yeah this is where it is" so we just sort of hung out awkwardly for a few minutes then he drove away. We walked and caught up with him and asked again about feeding, and he told us that we could feed anytime, but we have to buy a bag of food to feed them from the store, and the lady wasn't there right now. We were like ok.... The playground is dangerous and nonfunctional. There are 2 broken swings (kids were very upset when we walked over and wanted to swing and we had to explain they were broken) and some other things that were practically in ruins. It looked post-apocalyptic. There was one cabin/house in the camp that had a fenced back yard with sad little scared deer in it. Like they caught wild deer and trapped them. The bathrooms weren't that bad, but I wouldn't want to take a shower there or have to use them with little kids. We saw quite a bit of glass on the ground throughout the park, and lots of beer caps in the water near the shore. They didn't have paddle boats. The place is just a mess. We'll be sticking to state parks.
The good things: the lady at the front desk was very nice when we checked in, and let us change our campsite no problem. We didn't have any trouble calling and making reservations and calling back later with some questions. While the animal area is sad, there is a herd of goats and llama's that roam free (including little baby goats), which was charming and the kids loved it. (the goats will harass your camp site for food - they jump on the tables and will make a mess looking for food). And...
Read moreSo I want to start off by saying the water was beautiful, and maybe we werenât exactly prepared in the sense of activities. But we read on the page âhiking and bikingâ, so we figured for our short trip we would hike mornings and swim in the evenings. Well unfortunately when I asked reception, they said hiking was a relative term and it was just walking along the river rocks by the water. Which we did, or try to and unfortunately every single one of my toes are covered in blisters due to the uneven terrain of the rocks even with wearing hiking shoes. So just be prepared for what hiking and biking means. I think bringing paddle boards or kayaks would be a much better experience but thereâs not much else to do other than that.
Now about the cabins. Well it did not have everything in the picture, in our case there was no stove. Luckily we brought some cold stuff to put together, and stuff to use in the microwave but thank goodness we decided not to cook there. And due to my very strict diet because of my glucose, Iâm glad we didnât have to go 30-40 min to a small market where I probably wouldnât have been able to find much. Secondly, there was a lizard, a blue mud dauber, and a bark scorpion in our room all found within 3 hours of checking in. Myself, my boyfriend, and my dog were luckily not stung or bit, but there are many access points in the cabin Iâm sure they were able to wiggle through. Lastly, there are serious leaks outside the cabin as well as black moldy spots on the ceiling from past water damage. Not only does that attract all the creepy crawlies but also made us feel quite sick every morning when we woke up, and once we left the cabin we felt fine. Now there is no hot water for the showers and the back door didnât lock well at all and we couldnât use it due to being scared someone would come into the cabin. The AC also does not work well. We had to get it down to 60, and only felt it was truly 60 when we woke up around 7am. Throughout the day and night it stayed pretty warm in the cabin.
All in all, the $179 a night is quite steep for what youâre getting, and the false advertising on activities to do was a let down. I would have rather gotten an air bnb and drove in to the park. Everyone was super sweet that worked there, but the price gauging is quite steep for what...
