When we arrived at the facility, we were somewhat dismayed to see that the entire lobby area was undergoing renovation reconstruction. There had been no previous indication of this in the online reservation experience, and it seems that it would have been relevant information possibly affecting our choice.
The check-in experience was just OK. The desk clerk was pleasant enough, but we weren't overwhelmed with her enthusiasm. I suspect the whole renovation experience had been draining on everyone.
When we got to the room, we discovered that it had not been made up, even though we checked in about 6:00 in the evening (3:00 was the designated check-in time). The desk clerk was apologetic and gave us a free upgrade to a suite.
The suite was made up and seemed fine. The room was dark, though, even with all the lamps on. The available lighting really didn't seem sufficient for the space. The sofa bed and chair were stiff and not comfortable.
The next morning I was getting into the shower and noticed the safety bar attached to the wall next to the shower. I pulled on it very gently just to test it, and it literally pulled out of the wall with very little effort. There was nothing securing it to the wall but screws into drywall, and the drywall seemed to be crumbling. After my shower, I took pictures with my camera phone, and showed them to the desk clerk. She apologized and said she would see that it was fixed. About a half hour later someone came to the door to check on it and said they'd be back shortly to fix it. We left the room for several hours, and when we came back, the bar was attached in a much more secure fashion. This was fine for our room, but left me wondering how many of the other shower safety bars throughout the facility were also potentially insecure and dangerous.
Breakfast was served in the lobby, cafeteria style, from 7AM to 10AM. The kitchen staff seemed to be in the habit of putting away the uneaten hot food (eggs and sausage) before 10AM. I came down once at 9:45 to a mostly bare counter and had to ask if any hot food was still available. The staff were gracious about fetching wrapped food, still warm, out of the kitchen and offering it to me, but it seemed odd and awkward that I had to ask.
The morning we checked out, the desk clerk had gone outside for some reason, maybe for a smoke break, and I had to stand at the desk for several minutes waiting to turn in my key and get my receipt, while the cleaning ladies congregating in the back office had to apologize for my wait after I asked if someone could help me. Again, no one was rude, but the whole attitude toward service seemed a little casual and unhurried.
The experience overall wasn't awful, but I hope this isn't typical of HIE facilities. If it is, I wouldn't recommend, and probably wouldn't...
Read moreI wish I could give zero stars. I cannot recommend this hotel at all because of numerous issues and very rude and unprofessional management. I scheduled this location for my wedding guests and my bride and I, but we constantly ran into issues. Guests who reserved rooms were often not placed into the hotel block, even after requesting such. The mother of the bride wasn't even in the block even after she specifically requested to be in the block in person at the hotel months in advance. They even listed her name completely wrong when she gave her ID to the desk employee. The bride and groom's king suite was given away to a guest after it was requested to be set aside for the couple. A credit card was given in advance and we specifically requested to pay in cash on arrival, yet the card was charged and the employee was unable to take the cash because the room listed a zero balance due. I never authorized this hold. Because of the charge, our alcohol order was declined and we nearly had a dry wedding. Luckily, we were able to use the cash for that. When the assistant manager came in to remedy the situation, she was extremely rude and unprofessional to the bride's mother. Very frustrated with having to deal with the manager's attitude the night before the wedding. At least the desk employee tried her best and was very polite. Also, don't plan on sleeping with the windows open, you'll wake up with hundreds of bugs crawling all over your room, like we did. There are no screens on the hotel windows. I fully plan on writing to corporate once we return from our honeymoon. I recommend finding lodging elsewhere even if it's a considerable distance away from your event! The rooms were clean at least and the regular desk staff did what they could. It's a pity management is so difficult to work with, especially when trying to fix issues that arose. Planning the wedding is stressful enough without having to deal with such poor service as this. This was all brought to the attention of the hotel, yet no compensation for the issues was given. Lastly, the rooms are very expensive compared to...
Read moreFirstly I booked this stay on IHG for teo nights. I'm getting my home renovated so I wanted to stay close to home so I could check on the progress. I had paid for the entire room charge with a digital credit account. I went to check in and right off the bat the front desk agent wasn't behind the desk, she was walking around somewhere else. When she came to the front she was chewing on something while checking me in. Very unprofessional. I had my card ready to give her for incidentals because like I said before I had already paid for the room online. I go to swipe my card and see the whole amount of the room on the card terminal. I told her no I paid for this room already with the card on file and I'm only swiping this card for incidentals. She said ok and hid the room charge from the card terminal. This agent proceeded to delete the card I paid for the room with off of my account. I saw they had held the amount of the first night on the card I used for incidentals. I knew right then the girl at the front desk either just flat-out lied or she was wholly incompetent. Either way, I did not go back the second night. I knew it was going to be an issue because she deleted my card. I took the initiative to call the hotel and try to explain what happened and how their agent royally messed up. I feel like it was on purpose because when I told her no about using my incidentals card for the stay she got a bit of an attitude and attempted to try to go back and forth with me about it. I called and spoke to Donna and then the manager to no avail. Their sentiments were all the same. It was basically “Oh well she deleted your card, tough”. “You still owe us so pay up”. I'm completely fed up with this hotel and its inability to fix this situation professionally. Be careful if you stay here because you may regret it. They'll let their staff completely screw up and not hold them accountable. So I'm at this point with no resolve. I have checked into many hotels in the same way without any issues. It just takes one front desk agent with an attitude to cause an entirely unnecessary incident...
