My first impression was how secluded it is. At the end of a well kept up dirt and gravel road with the closest neighbor a half mile away, it is very peaceful and secluded, yet just a few miles away is the town of Howard Lake, which has most everything you might need. The lake is peaceful and secluded as well, not a typical power boat lake. We paddled the canoe across one nice evening and were the only boaters out. There is a comfortable wood bench on the dock where we spent mornings and evenings watching the fish jump and various water birds doing their thing. The amenities and service are perfect and immaculate. Greg and Christie made us feel at home. There is plenty to do in the neighboring towns. The well executed modern buildings that comprise the main house and the guest house play well in juxtaposition with the outbuildings, some of which look 150 years old or possibly older. Although the guesthouse is on the grounds of a traditional American farm, the architectural style reminds one of being in Scandinavia. Dutch Lake Guest House is only an hour from the Twin Cities, but it's worlds away in a rural setting where it is peaceful and quiet. Being able to go on a walk (snowshoe in the winter), paddle a canoe, dip your feet in at the end of a dock, relax in a hammock under the trees all from your own door step is quite a treat!
