In my many years of traveling, this is the first time I felt compelled to write a review and it’s unfortunate that it’s a negative one. Wyndham - Virginia Beach was supposed to be our ideal get away for our 4th July weekend. Let’s start with the positive, and there is only one, the room, the hotel is located on the beach, so we had an ocean view…the room was actually not bad, it was clean and the bathroom was renovated and it actually one of the better bathrooms I have seen. We arrived on July 3rd and right off I could see this was going to be a challenge. The tiny pool was overcrowded with guests, even at 8:30pm, and the lobby was just overcrowded with unaccompanied kids, where are the parents??? I asked about the room and was told there were limited rooms available and all were close to the elevators, which I specifically asked not to be when I booked the room months ago. We get to my floor and again see kids sitting all around outside in the hallway, again no adult supervision. My first night we are greeted with loud music and noises from both rooms surrounding our room (1602), these noises never stopped until around 1-2am each night. Yes I did try calling the front desk to move to another room, but of course that would be impossible because the hotel was filled to capacity. So we spent the next three nights turning the volume up on some easy listening channel on the tv in order to get some sleep. I know exactly what the issue is, Wyndham runs no checks around their hotel, if they did they would see that there are multi-families staying in each of the rooms on either side of me. My guess is each room had 4-5 adults and 4-5 kids. The rooms are so packed that the kids and adults can’t comfortably fit in their rooms, so they spill out in the hallways, just to get extra space. In the past I have always stayed at Marriott and I can kick myself for not once again staying there. I have never had this experience at Marriott facilities. I just thought Wyndham was a reputable chain, so what could go wrong, turns out much can go wrong. I understand this is the 4th of July and hotels are packed in the area, but what is wrong with Wyndham when they allow a situation when it gets so out of hand that they end up providing such a negative experience. Any walk through at the facility would allow them to see that these rooms were over filled and packing each room with so many people should not have been allowed. The hotel itself was dirty, the floors seemed always wet, even in the elevators. The restaurant’s food was subpar and the poor wait staff seemed overwhelmed. The front desk crew seemed disinterested at best but I feel they had little power to address any issues. It felt that my partner and I spent almost $500 a night to get a low budget motel experience, what a complete waste of money. Tomorrow we depart, and this is the first time I can’t wait to return to Northern Virginia, back to civilisation, where I can feel relaxed, safe and get a good nights sleep. Fool me once, shame on you…I will never stay at another Wyndham hotel again. You only get the two stars because we got a clean room with an actual ocean view, otherwise it would have been one star. Read moreThis hotel is vastly understaffed with a GM who doesn’t seem to care about the property or experience of guests. We contacted the front desk several times about AC, hot/cold water, and everything else to no avail.
Housekeeping only comes before your visit and will not come during your stay. You’ll need to request towels, wash clothes, bath mats, toilet paper, coffee and supplies, tissues, and trash bags from the front desk. We didn’t have towels in the room when we arrived.
There was only scalding hot water in our room. We made several requests to have it fixed and it never was resolved. The whole room only had hot water—like the sink and toilet. If you closed the toilet lid, condensation would be on the lid when opened. Maintenance did come and unclog the bathtub so we weren’t standing in pooled scalding hot water, but neglected to fix the AC or water temperature while there, again, even though it was requested. They left the bathroom covered in dirty boot prints and I had to essentially demand housekeeping come afterwards.
There was trash everywhere in the hotel and on the beach. Hallways, outside of rooms, beach, and beach access area. The tiles on the wall in main beach access area were duct taped, and poorly, at that. Only 2 of 3 elevators worked, consistently broken beer bottles and trash and used towels on the floor in the same hallway. We were in room 302 with an oceanfront view. We had a filthy room, tattered chair, peeling wallpaper, ripped carpet, bedsheets with blood-like staining, no blanket, dusty and dirty AC that didn’t work, dirty mini fridge, and a pet roach. Yes, we had roaches in our room. Which shouldn’t have been a surprise after seeing rats in front of the beach access doors.
The whole building was evacuated at 1am for several hours and GM made joke about it when I was at front desk the next am. He didn’t have any issue being unprofessional in front of guests, which shouldn’t surprise me because of the state of the property.
We requested a different room or offered to pay for upgrade and were told there wasn’t availability for that.

I have spent thousands of dollars at this hotel and over $1k this past month. Having a rough time experienced car trouble etc. your staff has made a rough time even worse! Firstly I was not paid for my work from a client one day last week so I was unable to book a room after having stayed countless times I thought that I’d be granted the courtesy/hospitality of at least using the restroom & microwave the next morning after we had a very uncomfortable sleeping in vehicle. Apparently I was incorrect. And my previous patronage to the company meant nothing. That particular night I was unable to book a room I still patroned the restaurant. The next morning an employee allowed us to use microwave in break room . He stepped out and later another employee came in.. I said good morning she said nothing. Seconds later she began to interrogate our being in the break room. We explained to her the situation and that we had been allowed to simply use the microwave. She became very hostile demanding we leave etc. We then go to use the restroom in lobby and upon coming out we are met by a very rude Dawn claiming to have just seen video of us being confrontational with an employee. Well she’s a big liar because that’s not at all what happened.. she then began to demand outlr key cards saying they were hers. I don’t think she owns anything in the hotel except for her person and any personal belongings she may have brought with her. She also demanded that we leave the property when we were in fact pretty stuck at the moment due to car trouble. Fast forward to today we experienced more car trouble (lost key) so already have a rough morning to say the least I was met very abruptly and rudely by a “general manger” who did even first say hello or introduce himself. .asking me what room I was in and if I had two cars cars and if one had broken down etc.. I, being very confused, asked who he was ? He finally announced himself as general manager.. I maintained my distance constantly moving away and keeping myself calm because he was causing me to want to strike him. He constantly moved in closer following me to the front desk where I was trying to get new room key to look for my car key.. he continued to harass telling the front desk to check me out etc.. very...
