We stayed in a full hookup (water, sewer, elec) site near the entrance. Make no mistake you WILL hear the highway...it's loud!
We have the America The Beautiful Access Pass so we got 50% off our stay. 3 nights with full hook ups for $48....you can't beat that. Great value.
T-Mobile home internet had 3 bars and was getting between 50-180 downloads depending on how busy the network was (slower at evening and faster in the mornings).
Access: We have a 42 ft 5th wheel. Pull though spot near the entrance is tight for big rigs but completely doable. We had to swing wide on to the grass so the trailer would make the turn and the trailer still tracked onto the grass. Same goes for leaving. Nothing to worry about but just keep it in mind.
Location: Close to Waco and right on Waco lake. Beautiful sunsets on the lake. Close to the highway.
Cleanliness: Campground was clean. We did NOT check the bathhouse.
Site Quality: Nice long pad to park on but it isn't very wide so our stairs extended into the grass (no biggie). Nice covered picnic table with a packed sandy/gravel pad. Grass needed to be cut pretty bad.
Noise: You are literally right next to the highway so the noise is loud. Set your expectation accordingly and don't be irritated by all the trucks and traffic. It was pretty quite late at night and we slept with a fan for...
Read moreMy wife and I are both hardcore nature experts and we stayed the night here a few Saturdays ago. This place makes you feel like a true pioneer adventurer. We set up the tent and I was quick to set up the campfire. At around 2 pm, we needed hotdogs so I walked into the forest and was immediately immersed in nature. I felt like Rambo mixed with some old pioneer dude that helped with discoveries and stuff. Hotdogs? Yeah right I thought, I'll do better than that! So I scaled a large hill, barrel rolled across the highway, and found myself in some ancient ruins or city or something. I entered one building and found lots of hotdogs and paid for them at the counter of this old nearly deserted gas station. I then somersaulted across the highway but my bag and left leg where struck by an 18 wheeler. Just like the old pioneer days, I knew i must tread on, regardless of whether my kill was just lost to the elements/wildlife. We would not eat that day but at least I didnt die, just like in the pioneer days. My wife ordered some pizza later and the doctor said I was gonna lose that leg for sure. Hell yes I felt awesome, a...
Read moreWe were there 2 nights in pull-thru site #29. The site was long enough for our 35' Motorhome and toad. It also had a pavilion with picnic table and a grill. It's near the highway so we could hear the highway at night. The site is located between 2 trees that has low hanging large limbs. I was very nervous about spending the night there as the limb was right above our bedroom area and there were storms forecasted to come through the area with winds. Most of the other pull-thru sites there that did not have trees hanging overhead were occupied so we had to remain there. Thankfully nothing bad happened that night and the next day I asked to be moved to another site and they moved us to site #28 which eased my concerns. The campground has good access to Hwy 6. It does have a boat ramp. Be aware that they close the gates at 10 pm. You can leave after 10pm but you can't re-enter the campground until the gate reopens at 6am. It was a nice campground and convenient to Waco but they really need to trim those low hanging limbs above...
