The owners of this particular RV Park must be doctoring their reviews. The good reviews were the reason I choose this park but after my experience, I find a lot of them to be ironic. In my personal experience the customer service was non existent. When I called the number provided on the flyer they left for me in their night box, no one answered. I tried multiple times and no one answered. It began to blizzard so I drove to the Best Western across I-70 and the manager there tried to call their personal cell phones, no answer. The manager even tried to call a friend of the RV park owner's and they couldn't get them to answer the phone or call back. Matter of fact, no one ever returned my call which doesn't equate with great customer service in my book or really show any concern for their guest at all. How hard is it to return a phone call? They also charged me twice what the nightly rate is. I don't know why, they just did. So, they ended up charging me for two nights and I didn't even stay one. I made a same day reservation. A couple of weeks later when I called Deb, the owner, she told me I needed to cancel my reservation 24 hours in advance. How am I supposed to do that when I made the reservation the same day? Overall my experience was HORRIBLE! I even asked Deb if she would give me a credit for one night and she said no. She was only rude and dismissive, not friendly and helpful like the reviews say. If you're looking for a KOA to stay at that will overcharge you, ignore your phone calls (even after I had informed her when I made the reservation that I would need help when I got to the park to which she said, just call that number on the paperwork) and then yell at you when you call to discuss the charge and eventually hang up on you, then this is the place! Until the WaKeeney KOA, I have only had good experiences at campgrounds. This one is the WORST! Do yourself a favor and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSummary: Their rules focus is on making money and largely ignore customer care. They (Probably a KOA, not local rule) require 7 days cancelation notice. We have a 40' motorhome and travel a lot. Most campgrounds we've associated ask for 24 hours and have worked with us if we encountered a problem. Not KOA and, more specifically, this campground. We try to avoid KOA (Used to be members) as much as possible as we feel their quality has diminished over the years. So why one star: We were traveling from AL to CO, across I70 on the last leg and knew we needed an overnight stop. We made and paid 60.90 for a reservation at WaKeeney KOA. We broke down in Kansas city and sat on the road for more then 10 hours. The breakdown occurred about 9:30 AM. I called the WaKeeney KOA immediately, and alerted them that we were stranded and might not make it there. At about 4 PM we were told we would need to be towed. I called the KOA with the news and asked if they could back out the charge because of the unforeseen emergency nature of our breakdown. The answer was an emphatic no. When we finally arrived in CO, I found an email from the WaKeeney KOA confirming the cancellation and charging us a $60.90 (The exact amount of our reservation) cancellation fee. I could afford the loss, but many people maybe cannot. It's all in their rules, so they were within their right to do that. Empathy? None! Going forward, we will (as you should consider also) avoid ALL KOAs when we do trip planning. They allow the all-powered dollar to eclipse fostering customer satisfaction and loyalty. There are literally thousands of campgrounds that care more. Sad because the people who volunteer and work at the KOA campgrounds are generally...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI give the man who took my reservation and the facility 5 stars. I give the woman at the desk when I arrived with my dog a -1. They claim they are dog friendly and you pay Xtra for that. I had a cabin. Checking in she asked what kind of dog and then barked Oh they shed...not allowed on the bed! MmmmmKay!(Im a groomer, and constantly deshed my dog to keep my house clean. ) Then I had to hear how she had to spend Xtra time cleaning the bed last time a dog was in there. Well, you pay extra for the dog, you bring your own linens, AND the mattress is plastic wrapped, so don't understand all the hostility.
My pup is a clean, we'll behaved jack Russell yet hated from the moment of arrival, which isn't the point really...just her hostility. Not pleasant when you're road weary.
I was feeling unwelcome right away, then later, after the sign stating no dogs left unattended at cabin, I walked over to get ice. Big mistake. I was prevented from entering because, she said, "your dog sheds!!". Yikes woman! After she huffed and puffed and did the sale outside, I vowed to never return here. Go ahead and bring your dog to this "dog friendly" place...at your own risk.
I suggest High Plains, or campground at City of Ellis ks. just 50 MI west of them. They are VERY nice.
I thought the other 1 star reviewers were just extra sensitive. That's not the case at all now that I've experienced the wrath myself...lol!
Whats confusing is they are so paranoid about dogs in the cabins yet they force you to rent one if you have a dog! They don't allow you to tent camp with...
