25 years ago My wife and I met here... first come first serve camping. I have been to every state park in Michigan, and this is tops. The river has cut incredible formations into these series of falls, in my opinion the most breathtaking falls in Michigan. I AM biased, but this campground has it all for the nature lover. Not a circus like other campgrounds, basic camping with basic services. Down the steps to Lake Superior where river meets is where all your daily worries fade in view of the natural splendor. We rolled in on a Sunday afternoon and got the last spot. Campsites practically on top of each other, no privacy or trees. Alot of people with reservations, never showed up, so the good spots were empty. I can saw the waterfalls made it worth it! There are few there and many, many stairs to get to them, also a cool bridge. You can also hike to the river mouth and fish. There are also stairs that lead right to the lake, you can sit on the rocks and watch the sunset right off the water, its amazing!! Great rustic site. More trees on the generator side. Over 100 steps down to the beach. A short walk to thr trails to see 3 waterfalls. No where for a camper to get potable water we had to go to union bay for water before hand. There is a well pump back by the tent sites.

We were in the inside of the circle on the generator side. Firewood if they had it was $8 , down the road was $5-$10. Nothing close for souvenirs have to go over by visitor center/ union bay area for that. No cell service once in a while you may see a glimmer.
