Redwood Motel — Hotel in Wasta

A cute little hole-in-the-wall motel out of the way of big cities. Stayed here for a night with my kitties and the room was clean, air-conditioned, and everything I needed was there. They even had a bunch of little snacks set out (though I passed on those purely because I wasn't hungry).

I stopped here on my cross-country move from Washington state to Missouri state. It was such a nice reprieve from the monotony of driving and also to let my cats out of their carriers!

The room is set up to be pet-proofed so there wasn't anything that was an issue other than the fact that one of my cats hid under the bed when he realized I was going to put him back in the travel carrier LOL but that was my problem, not theirs!

I did feel a bit nervous because of a closed and locked door that I'm assuming connects rooms and the fact that my room had no deadbolt in it despite the description saying it would.

I can't say enough positive things about this little roadside gem!! So, I stumbled upon the Redwood Motel back around thanksgiving of 2024 and fell in love with it!! It was probably around 8:00P when I called to see if there was availability and I was in luck! Jayne (owner) let me know she had a room for me. I was traveling alone with my 1.5 y/o daughter so she got me all booked over the phone! And had Stace (manager) get my room heater on and all ready for me! It was ABOVE AND BEYOND service! Jayne was so amazingly friendly and helpful! The rooms are quaint, clean, and welcoming. You can tell that she takes great pride in her own ownership. The rooms are equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, and a coffee pot! The place is always reasonably priced AND PET FRIENDLY (small fee). The town is small, yes, but I never felt unsafe and the location is extremely convenient. Whenever I pass through SD, I will only ever stay at the Redwood! I don’t even write reviews unless I’m absolutely amazed. Found this gem when my friend and I realized we had forgotten to make a sleeping accommodation for that night. We were searching for affordable places to sleep last minute. Being that it was July 3rd, we had trouble finding vacancy. Called this place and we were relieved because there were was an open room, and it was so affordable. I knew that going to a motel I shouldn’t expect much so I kept my expectations very low. The building looked like any other motel.. still I was thinking it was going to be like a motel 6. But I was amazed when I opened the doors and it was updated nicely. Everything was clean and immaculate and it had a nice tv with cable. We liked it so much that we canceled the hotel we already booked for the next night so that we can stay there again before we headed back home. Thanks Boni for the the great hospitality experience.
